If they're doing a spin off it needs to be the The House of Ashur.

Fucking epic episode. Next week is going to be absolutely bananas, you can bet the house on that.

ok not to be a hatter but this show is not as much entertaining as previous both shows....just recently did a marathon of prequel and season one and in my opinion both are better by a large margin...the fights are not tat interesting plus they are a lot shorter and just slow mo shit all over the place plus the conspiracies and acting falls short.

I would have words.

Are we allowed to talk about the promo for the final episode or do we have to use spoilers?

Anyway I'll be as vague as possible. I don't like what I see with illithyia , but I liked the look on lucretias face except I hope it has nothing to do with illithyia

Silly Crixus, ur not Neo to be dodging arrows like in Matrix

Spartacus has been violent but Ilythia slitting her throught actually made me turn around maybe because I see it coming

Really good episode. Alot of development for an hr episode

People drop in and say things like this from time to time, and it never sounds any less ridiculous. If you aren't trolling, you're a seriously inattentive viewer.

The entirety of Season 2 could have been spent in the ludus with Glaber & friends, with minimal killing and fucking to speak of, and it would have been a top quality drama, easily rivaling the season as it stands. The great strengths of this show are its shrewd writing and a cast that's subtle and bold enough to fully inhabit their larger-than-life roles without becoming caricatures. It's objectively untrue to say that Spartacus's main substance is sex and violence.

It´s an opinion, and no... im not trolling. This "TV Season" i´ve been ridiculously spoiled by shows like Person of Interest, Walking Dead, Sherlock and Fringe... to find much interest in the dramatic arcs presented in this latest Spartacus season... especially coming from awesomeness that was season 2.

So, no i´m not that interested in the story of this latest season of Spartacus, it has good fight scenes, some nudity and little more to offer me.

I don´t expect this show to even reach half of the writing and dramatic quality Rome had (speaking of roman period dramas), but this latest season is such a disappointment, especially the lead.

So, I'm at 38min. I'm assuming this is the first time we get to see Glabber's penis and his full frontal nudity? Kind of..unexpected. I wonder what makes them decide on this kind of thing. I mean, we've gone this far without seeing it, what factor made them want to show it to us now? I also always wonder how the acters deal with this, in terms of self consciousness etc. It's like being a pornstar but not. Do they not get turned-on? How can you not? Is it not super awkward when they do? Do they keep having to reshoot the scene until the penis stops rising? Serious Qs here.

He was using a prosthetic penis for that scene.

It's the custom to use spoiler tags if you're going to discuss the promos.

Hmmm...

Vengeance, although very watchable, doesn't scale the heights Gods of the Arena and Blood & Sand reached. One factor among them all is responsible for this.

I wasn't aware that there was all this talk of prosthetic dicks until DeKnight mentioned it on his twitter. The dicks looked pretty real to me...

The prosthetic dick was apparently called the "Kirk Douglas". Glabber's dick looked pretty real - I'd be disappointed if it didn't ;p - but it also looks identical to the KD so I'm just assuming.

Ehh, I think Batiatus is a very overrated character on GAF. A great character, but definitely not the only great character on the show, and it was his time to go. DeKnight said awhile back that if he had kept Batiatus alive for the fans he would have had absolutely nothing to do this season, and I absolutely agree with that.

Besides, killing off Batiatus made room for the real star on the Roman side to shine:

Definitely my favorite character on the Roman side of things, followed strangely by Ashur. Such an unpredictable beeyotch, and Lucy Lawless is doing a phenomenal job with her.

I think the "Kirk Douglas" was the prosthetic they used for that gladiator from season 1 who had the minor plot arc about his huge penis. They showed it, and from what I remember, it was stiff and plastic-looking. Glaber's peen looked too
deliciously
fleshy to be a prosthetic. lol

Wow and here I thought the episode was ending with the Seppia bloodbath/fucking in blood scene. Those last 15 minutes were intense

I would have words.

As would I.

That last episode was incredible, from what little I know of history, I can see where this next episode is potentially heading, and I love it. :D

I am very shocked at Virrinious, I assumed he would play a greater part in the story. Was he known historically? I always thought he was a real historical figure, and one that
lasted longer than Glabber
I might be wrong, but im curious what the history buffs say. He was set up to be a pretty interesting villain, I was kind of hoping to see him at his most evil.

The way they showed characters bonding this episode worries me I hope they wont kill off those bonds next week. Those tag battles were incredible though.

I agree that overall it hasn't been as great as the first two seasons. The conspiracy/political side isn't as good as Batiatus' maneuverings, and the action not as thrilling as the arena fights. That's my take on it, anyway. Still awesome, but not as awesome.

From what I can gather, it's used regularly:

"There is a great deal of nudity, both male and female, and some guys in the series are not as well-endowed as other guys, so we had to create the Kirk Douglas, as it was aptly named, so that certain actors would have a prosthetic that they could wear and feel comfortable.

"Someone lovingly called it the Kirk Douglas, and the name stuck."

Also, Lucy Lawless sez:

"I don't know [who uses them], a couple are stapled to the wall. I'm not sure if they've used them yet. Nobody's telling!"

A couple? Psh.

Same. I thought they would save the battle for the finale, but nope. ... :)

Ilithyia has fucking amazing eyes when she's scheming, holy shit it's gorgeous!

The blonde barbarian reminds me of Ayla from Chrono Trigger in some way, which is boner-inducing.

Did I mention HBK was badass? HBK is one badass, and he'll joined by black one-eyed pirate buddy soon.

Half the guy's face is missing. :P

More specifically burnt. I don't think he is dead, but now scared and actually has a real reason to hate Spartacus.

This was a great episode, but I can just tell it leads up to the finale.

oh and the penis talk, about Glaber's junk, it looked too real to be fake. >_>

More specifically burnt.

Yeah, burnt off. That isn't really a survivable injury, heh. Do people think he's going to come back looking like the Terminator? They're probably just consolidating the two armies. Any number of reasons for a show like this not to follow actual history, i.e. the actor just wanted out or they simply don't need the character anymore. Season 3 will be
Crassus and Julius Caesar
. They have no use for Varinius.

It makes sense that they are starting to remove characters to make room for others next season.

i fully expect Oenomaus to die next episode as well.

Agreed, and based on where their stories have gone
I am 99% sure that Oenomaus and Gannicus won't both make it to Season 3. My money's on Gannicus to bite it though.

I predect Gannicus taking out the egyptian at the cost of his life in order to save Oenomaus, or maybe Oenomaus joins melitta at last

I agree with that. I would even say that this season every scene in ludus/Capua with Roman side was far more interesting than scenes spent with Spartacus' crew or any action/sex scenes. The web of intrigues each character plots, the relationships between characters, their friendships and rivalries, are really well done. The series has really a vast of colorful characters that you can hate at one moment, and then feel sorry for/support at the other moment.
