Spider-Man: Singleplayer, 4-6x size of Sunset, Spider-Man is 23, has Peter gameplay

So I'm not exactly calling this the Spider-Man E3 info thread since, well, there's presumably a lot that isn't covered here, but I noticed a few things in interviews.

  • The game is singleplayer only.
  • The game is mostly open world, though there are some cinematic linear segments.
  • The open world is 4-6 times the size of Sunset Overdive.
  • You won't be killing anyone in the game.
  • There will be a lot of gameplay and story segments where you play as Peter Parker going about his day instead of Spider-Man. They say it will actually focus as much on Peter as it does on Spider-Man, but I don't know if that statement just applies to the story, or to the gameplay segments as well.
  • The mission from the gameplay demo will be a bit different in the final version. For example, they mention you save a lot more people in the actual game, and there are actually failure states, but for the purposes of the demo, they changed things up a bit.
  • They note that Spider-Man is 23 in the game, and has been Spider-Man for eight years, so he's pretty accomplished, though as you might have noticed in the trailer, far from 100% confident in himself.
  • They confirm that Miles Morales was the guy at the end of the trailer. They won't say if he's playable, but they mentioned he's there because they want to show this is a different kind of Spider-Man story.
  • They also note that Miles' role is much bigger than a cameo.
  • Marvel noted that they want their games to help develop their less well known characters as well, and Insomniac mentioned that Miles' inclusion was also part of this initiative. Marvel had previously noted that they view diversity in gaming as extremely important, so there's that factor as well.
  • There will also be villains beyond Mr. Negative and Kingpin.
  • They talk a bit more about the gadgets and how you can use things like tripwires on two people instead of just traditionally. They're trying to have a lot of combat options.
  • In case it wasn't obvious, this is not tied to any existing Spider-Man story.
  • For the most neurotic fans, Insomniac assures that the white Spider-Man symbol is meaningful and has a purpose that's explained in game.
  • They also note that the web swinging isn't normally QTE based, but that they use QTEs for cinematic moments.
  • The normal web swinging is physics based and has to connect to buildings.
  • Sn4ke_911 pointed out that the woman Spider-Man is talking to is Wraith.
  • There's an extended gameplay demo that will be shown to the public at a later date.
  • There will be alternate suits.
  • The symbiote is not in the game.

This game looks really awesome, I'm really looking forward to this! Insomniac is an amazingly talented studio, they're a great fit for this game!

Wow that's impressive. Also the lighting looks so good, how??

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Marvel forcing boring ass Miles Morales into the first big chance to get a good Spidey game. This initiative is cursed. Spider-Man is cursed.

I hope to God they arent going to
kill Pete and have Miles take up the costume and fight the final boss. I guess it's OK but I really want them both to have their own Decent Games. Maybe they will team up and no one has to die?

Game of the Show for me.

A point about swing speed, jstevenson posted somewhere in the trailer thread that it's possible to catch up with the chopper much faster than what was done in the conference demo.

Too sexy. This Spidey game is just too sexy. First Spiderman game I'm actually looking forward to.

I get the feeling the budget on this game is utterly immense. But hey, at least Insomniac will be eating for many years to come.

Sounds good to me

See, I really like the sound of this. I was hoping the structure was that the freedom in the open world would be the bulk of the game between the linear setpiece/QTE main missions, so I kinda wish they showed that off as well.

Ehhhhhh....I don't know about this. I play a Spiderman game because I want to swing around a city and beat up bad guys. Not play as a normal dude doing normal things. Small cutscenes and references to Peter are fine, but I don't want to be Peter for ~50% of the game.

I'm cautiously optimistic, but this and the QTEs make me wary.

I love when devs use multipliers in regard to open world sizes compared to past titles. It's the most disingenuous thing ever. It might very well be 4 times the size when you take into account density, verticality, etc, but I refuse to believe the Manhattan in Spider-Man will genuinely feel 4-6 times as big as the world in Sunset

not a fan of these in-game cut scenes. the visuals look much better than the actual gameplay, and the result is a bit jarring.

BUT WHAT OF THE WEB SLINGING?!

It looked pretty canned and boring in the demo, tbh. Why is a game from 2004 still the best Spider-Man web slinging experience?

I'm still looking forward to this game despite that, though.

How large was Sunset Overdrive?

I'm trying to think of a good comparison. It was big enough, but definitely not huge. Probably pretty close to inFamous: Second Son, if that's a good reference for you?

Regardless, 4 to 6 times that size for Spidey, for a dense urban environment, seems impressive.

I hope they go for a Persona 5 angle, with fun stuff to do as Peter Parker. Maybe different villains that are treated like seasons of a TV show.

I'd love DLC that focuses on lesser known villains. Comic books and video games go together like PB&J, and I'm really glad this is happening.

It's just too bad Square Enix has The Avengers.

Oh, they said it's much more complex than it looked.

I want Dock Ock, Venom and Green Goblin in this. And hopefully the stuff about Peter Parker means Gwen Stacy and MJ will be in the game.

Lot of people don't like the demo. I guess Nobody likes you when you're 23....

I loved the demo, the fluidity is impressive, music is good and I like Peter's voice. But I guess easy to impress me

This game is going to move fucking mountains of copies. I don't think it's groundbreaking, but just the response from a friends and family who don't care a lick about gaming... apparently it's what they always wanted. If they can capitalize on oldschool spidey webslinging from years past then whew son.
