Spike said:Really? You don't think that Kojima goes for movie over gameplay in the MGS games? Why, if he wants to make a movie, doesn't he just make a damned movie instead of unbelievably long cutscenes/codecs with minimal gameplay?

Ninja Scooter said:"minimal" gameplay? Fact: There is more gameplay than cinemas in the Metal Gear Solid games.

So holy shit, if this is how 360 in-game SC looks it's gonna be so awesome. Next-gen ftw always.
Ninja Scooter said:my initial thoughts is that it looks like some kind of CG cinema that uses the ingame models and assets, but the quote seems to make it sound like the cinemas wil have some kind of Dragon's Lair/QTE level of control, so maybe they are realtime after all.

BlueTsunami said:I just dislike that just because the cinematics are so heavy, gameplay is somehow nonexistent. Just a difference of opinions I guess.
BigBoss said:I haven't been watching Double Agent that closely so has Ubi Soft released a trailer or any videos yet?
Kuroyume said:They released a teaser a month or two after E3.
There's like half a second that shows this scene:BigBoss said:Was there any realtime footage?
BlueTsunami said:Just because theres minimal gameplay (which I disagree with) doesn't mean its nonexistent. You've got the FPS aspects, the hiding and the sneaking around. Though, its a balancing act between cinematics and gameplay (tilting toward cinematics).

Has it been announce for PS3...TTP said:
Spike said:No, gameplay is not nonexistant. Far from it, in fact. MGS is one of my fave series ever. For me though, the long cutscenes just take me out of the game completely.
Here's an example for an ideal cutscene for me:
- Snake has just set off a time bomb and is vacating the building as time is running out. He gets outside, and you make him jump to a secure spot.
- Cutscene begins showing a huge explosion. Trucks and jeeps begin to explode. Stored artillery starts exploding. Camera cuts to snake looking at the destruction occuring.
- Codec sequence begins with snake telling the commander that he accomplished his mission. Commander tells him to proceed deeper into the jungle where he will do his next task
These should last no more than two minutes tops. Again, that is the ideal for my tastes. Also, I don't mind longer cutscenes at the beginning and ending of the game itself.
Damn, I would love it if Konami just gave Kojima the go-ahead to create a full-on animated/cg movie of MGS. Then at least I can break out the popcorn and drinks while enjoying that. Not during the middle of the game, please.![]()
So, sorry if I've offended anyone, but I just don't like to be pulled out of the gameplay for too long.
Pedigree Chum said:Nah, MGS is great cause of its cutscenes and boss battles. MGS is like an RPG to me, I might not enjoy the gameplay all that much but the bosses and story push me along. SC's have terrible stories, but the games are so much fun to play. I've got two series that appeal to me in different ways, so I'm fine with both.
boyshine said:If realtime this brings up a very interesting point in reference to Nintendo Revolution; this kind of smooth "movie-like" visuals will show less difference between 480 and 720 resolutions compared to the sharper jaggy-prone "standard" graphics and look good even in 480 on HDTVs.. and that is something I believe Nintendo has thought of in their hardware design and might even be the reason why the GPU is named Hollywood. I am pretty sure Revolution has some clever stuff going on to make graphics look smoother and less jaggy.. only thing I don't like here is the photoshop'ish film grain filter.
Spike said:There is a new Splinter Cell 4 interview here: http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=9014&type=mov
I should also point out that I blame all games that do these huge cutscenes and not just MGS.![]()

Metal Gear What?
buckfutter said:Looks like Shenmue may have been more ahead of its time than we thought (given that it borrowed from Dragons Lair, at any rate...).
boyshine said:why not? didn't know this forum was console specific. I look at those screens and get an idea of how Revolution might make games look great even in SD on HD displays, why can't I post it? It's not like I'm trolling or anything?
AdmiralViscen said:How come you have only 15 posts, and you have an avatar, but I can't use avatars?
Amir0x said:You can use avatars. People just get confused, 'cause there's an "Edit Avatar" screen in the User CP that does nothing. It doesn't do anything for anyone. It's broken. To get an avatar:
User CP -> Edit Profile -> Additional Information [External Avatar Location] -> Enter URL of where your avatar is (must be 150kb or under).
AdmiralViscen said:Oh, I checked that page for an avatar section, and somehow missed it. Thanks a ton.
I was waiting to hit some kind of post number that would open it up for me. Didn't realize I'd cleared 200 posts already.
Sorry for being off topic, everyone!
