Splinter Cell 4: Double Agent 360 screens (in-game engine?)

I'm sure MGS4 will run very much like 2 and hold 60 fps the vast majority of the time (more than 95%).

What I DO doubt is that this new Splinter Cell game will even hold a constant 30 fps. I'm honestly expecting a ~30 fps game with tearing. Surely you aren't expecting 60.

I don't care about the frame rate in Splinter Cell games because they are slow and I don't like using guns unless I have to.

Splinter Cell = stealth 100%
MGS =70% rambo 30% stealth

But I think its too early to say what kind of frame rate SC DA 360 will have.

O RLY? But its not too early to say MGS4's graphics wont improve (speaking of which, "improve"? What the shit? Its already better looking than 99% of other titles)? Double standards FTW!

Oh, it's too early to talk about something like this huh? Yet...it's not too early to make wild assumptions about an engine that was running on completely unfinished hardware?

Yeah, that's fair.

I'm basing my comment on both the history of the SC series, the history of the original XBOX, as well as the fact that most XBOX360 games thus far have had framerate issues.

YA RLY because we haven't seen Splinter cell in motion! MGS4 already looks good! What can they improve? You need STFU

Maybe for amateurs, but as an expert in pixelology I can say these screenshots indicate it will be around 25-30.

Who cares about how much better MGS4's graphics will get? It looked pretty damn underwhelming in the first place compared to, say, Gears of War. Not to mention that I'd rather actually play a kickass stealth game than watch a bunch of videos telling a typically boring japanese story.

I've always thought Splinter Cell graphics on the XBox were great, and I enjoyed watching them play, but I really had a hard time getting into them. I loved the way Chaos Theory looked and rented it, but didn't really even play it that much because the game is so utterly boring.

It's kind of like Halo. I don't like the game but the beautiful graphics get me to try it every time. I'm sure this will look good, like every SC XBox game did. I'm also sure I'll have more fun with other less-spectacular titles for some reason.

But Ubisoft hasn't released a X360 game yet so it could be 60 fps but chances are they will go for details over 60 FPS so you are probably right.

And again MGS4 graphics looks good to me, the only thing they could improve is the textures.

Congrats, i think you've officially let Doom off the hook with this post. Prepare yourself, they are coming for you now.

There is King Kong of course. :)

Take some of your own advice. We all know dark is an MGS fan, and he suggested SC should change. If I say the converse, then MGS fans go nuts. They have what they like, we have what we like. It seems that the two camps are mutually exclusive. I doubt I would be fond of changes that an MGS fan would want with SC. I know MGS fans don't want their franchise messed with - so step off.

Your point is completely invalid, where did he (when he stated that) did he mention MGS? If you had said that about MGS, I would have took that as your opinion as a gamer, you're the one who brought in MGS. It doesn't mean a thing if he likes MGS or not. Stop twisting what he said.

King Kong is actually one of the better-looking 360 launch titles. Crappy game, and not really next-generation quality, but looks better than most of the others.

oh ya, forgot about that one. Does it run at 60 fps?
No, it runs at 30 fps with slowdown.

Once again, with MGS3 textures being used on some structures in that trailer, I don't think you have to worry.

You've got normal res textures from MGS3 used in a techdemo thats being viewed at (720p?). Thats whats going to happen.

Granted, I dont make games so I wouldnt know, but wouldnt art assets be one of the LAST things finished on a game, Doom? ie. the textures would be mostly placeholders until geometry and stuff is in place?

Yep. The Demo itself was mainly to showcase geometry and Snakes model

MGS2 E3 trailer looked exactly like the final game. There were no improvements, they only removed some complex scenes that the PS2 probably couldn't handle. The part where MG Ray is on top of the tanker and Snake looking at it from deck.

MGS4’s texture work is very poor, some of the textures look like they are from a PS2 game. :(

If I recall correctly, MGS2 saw a few improvements in the engine before completion. For one, higher resolution, another would be higher framerates.

Textures have to be made by artists. Texturing environments, characters etc takes a lot of time and texture quality has a great impact on performance. So I think its one of the first thing they do.

I don't know how this degenerated to so many pages of lameness considering this game will be multiplatform?

If it's real time, everybody wins.

i think mgs4 looks awesome.

Again MGS4 graphics look complete to me. The only think that could improve is the textures. Looks pretty fucking amazing for a second gen PS3 title.

Right now my friend those gphx are not even equivalent to first gen, mate. Solid 60fps on far less powerful unfinished h/w is not equiv. to even first gen gphx. Or should we bring GoW at sub-30fps until recently as an example of second gen too :lol ?

BTW MGS4 char.> SC: DA char., IMHO, hopefully the latter runs at 60fps too.

This picture is the perfect example of diminishing returns.
You really think so? The leap seems pretty even to me.

I suppose diminishing returns COULD apply...but the degree is in question. The jump from MGS to the sequel is a tad larger than MGS2 to 4...but the jump is still quite large. It's a larger jump than most "next-gen" games have demonstrated so far, unfortunately...

Yes because Graphics will give it that... :lol

Two words: Ubisoft Shanghai. They should've have Ubisoft Montreal the 360 version and Shanghai the PSP version.

ummm, but Gears of War plays at 30fps, what graphkcs do u expect at 30fps game, it ssupposed to be max out
Well, it doesn't actually play at 30 fps just yet...but we're hoping they get there by release.

The game looks partially amazing. If it weren't for a few weak effects (rain), low framerate and the stiff animation, it could stand at the top for a while. It's still somewhat up there, though...regardless of those flaws.

You could be right about the effects (rain, fire) but I'd like to see some direct feed footage of these effects before making a judgement, the off screen footage could add to the effects not looking impressive I guess.

Generally, off screen footage would enhance them as you wouldn't be able to closely focus your attention on them. The rain was very poor looking (that very cheap, standard rain we've seen for years).

I really do hope they replace it, as the rest of that level looked ace. The atmosphere seems amazing.

Nope, are you? Personally, I think the only stupid assessment is to consider a rushed solid 60fps trailer on unfinished h/w as an example of second gen. s/w.
