Splinter Cell Double Agent: 1st trailer (confirmed CG!)

Can somebody tell me how everyone knows this video is CG? How do you people know it's not real-time cutscenes?

yeah the only thing that looks a little fishy for real time is the water. but that's still quite borderline

Your first idea that it isn't is that UBI hasn't made a big deal out of this being CG. If you had something like that running in real time, even if its cutscenes, don't you think they dev would want to be taking credit for it instead of having people questioning what it is?

Anybody else starting to gear up for a letdown in the graphics department? I'm sure whenever the montreal studio does their first next-gen splinter cell it'll look fantastic, but I'm starting to think that perhaps UBI isn't very confident in what they have as far as the 360 version goes.

Ayway, the delay is actually sortof nice for me as it makes it an easier decision to move my SC:DA preorder over to a GRAW preorder.

See, I agree, it doesn't look that great (Splinter Cell games traditionally featured some truly bad CG, though, so this is a step up)...but the quality of the overall presentation is not why I believe it is CG. It comes down to "the way it moves". All of the tell tale "I'm CG" signs are there...

Oh, by the way the trailer is definitely CG... proof? The very first frame of the video :)
Good job Ubi!

And to be fair, it's not entirely CG... there are about 5 seconds of live action footage in there also :D

Laa-Yosh (B3D) did his usual "I'm a CGI Artist" scan of the trailer and thinks it to be CGI (which is pretty much confirmation it is)....He is 98% right on these things...In fact this is what he had to say:

"These are not realtime, but CGI for sure. They are probably using the assets created for normal map extraction, and the smoothness and detail in the silhouettes makes it 100% sure that it's not ingame. It cannot be so detailed, even FN3 characters aren't so smooth and rely on normal mapping for cloth wrinkles.
But the post effects, camera work, motion blur and other things are also unlikely to be realtime. There's that small scene with the mirror in the jail cell as well, not gonna happen in-engine for a few more years...

It also makes total sense, as UBI has a shared CGI team that created a lot of stuff for the Prince of Persia games as an example. Splinter Cell probably has a story that's complicated enough to make it impossible to show events in engine movies, thus it's probably full of cinematics. Now why they haven't included enough realtime footage as well is beyond me, but it's highly likely that the CGI movies have been completed with the original schedule in mind, so there's a lot of that material to show.

It is also quite obvious now that the leaked parachute screenshots are CGI as well."

AND

"The similarities between the ingame and CGI models are obviously a result of heavily re-using ingame assets for the cinematics. UBI probably doesn't want to spend as much money on CG as other studios do, that's why they've consolidated all the work to a single team and aren't hiring specialized studios like Blur to do the job with heavily detailed models created from scratch."

Seriously, why do the Xbox fans grab at every possibility to prove that their system of choice is more powerful than originally expected? It really is ridiculous how every good looking thing we see for the 360 is given the benefit of the doubt here but every good PS3 demo/trailer is viewed as dubious.

90% of the posts in this thread stated it was CG before it became official. The other 10% wished that it wasn't CG and didn't know either way. I don't know what thread you were reading.

Was I trolling in that thread? All I said was that MGS4 looks great but its graphics won't improve and Splinter Cell looks better. It was an honest opinion based on those pictures.

You Xbots are hilarious.

cant see the vid, im on teh K...but, just because its cgi doesnt mean the game wont look like that

its a videogame trailer, they gotta show something dynamic to peak interest...30 second clip with HUD and nothing going on isnt all that sexy

Its the same as the one from Jim, but those seems to be slightly different than the french tv rip.

Yeah, the French version is a different cut from the same CG cutscenes.
