The World is Still Beautiful 01

This was quite enjoyable already. Not sure what kind of show this is yet but I like the medieval sort of setting. Nike is a pretty down to earth kind of girl. Interesting to see the disparity in wealth between Sun Kingdom and Rain kingdom. The sun King wasnt too much of a surprise. This is pretty cute so far.

Space Brothers 91:
Huh. It's raining.

God that whole episode. I didn't think I was going to cry, even after I got emotional from the new arrivals, but then
Damian descends down to help Hibito and asks how he couldn't come
and the tears just started pouring down. Space Brothers is so good when it really gets into the emotional moments like this, because of how well the show earns them with its writing and long form storytelling. It's refreshing because of every episode is just filled with great character moments, both in terms of highs and lows.

I'm still having a bit of trouble "getting into" this show - the metaphorical hero imagery is weird and I'm honestly not quite sure what the point of it is

I thought they made that really clear. It's a metaphor that helps us understand what drives our dual protagonists.

In Smile's flashback, he's trapped inside the cleaning closet, and the "hero" saves him. He talks about "hot blood" and we see him defeating bad guys (like the ones that mock Smile later). He's a hero of justice. He's stirred by emotion. And it's suggested that this "hero" is Peco. Peco gave Smile someone he could count on when he was in trouble. Smile at one time thought that he wanted to be like Peco, but that's not who he is.

So when Smile tries to summon the "hero" in his fight, no hero will come. He's not a hero. But he can become the robot, the emotionless machine focused on nothing but victory. And that's how he wins.

Whole loaf of bread? Are we talking Rick's bread here?

The World Is Still Beautiful 02

Ok this is potentially the best show of the season up there with One week Friends.
I didnt expect a show like this. This has real potential.

Madoka Magica 6

The horrors of what they find out about their bodies is really screwed up so
essentially they are zombies with an empty body
. I must say I don't really dislike Kyoko that much anymore, but one thing for sure is fuck that furball with his smuggy trashy face,
this shit thinks it's not a big deal to lose your body
like seriously.

I knew you'd warm up to Kyoko. Shes awesome.
This episode was something else. It really hit home the gravity of the situation the girls are facing.

First, let's get this out of the way: That looked AMAZING. When it comes to Shinkai's work, scenery porn is to be expected, but this was truly something else.

As for the film itself, what a beautiful and moving anime, it's hard to say those things when you just watched it, but I do believe that this is my favorite Shinkai anime so far, and when I checked his cronology, he just seems to get better and better each time he releases something.

Given the premise and his history, I was ready for the moment when the supernatural twist would come. It would still be a romance/drama, but definitely would have the supernatural twist to it. But nope, nada, just a grounded and beautiful love story.

Everything was so heartwarming until the moment where it wasn't, the rain ceased and to top that, we got to know more about who she was, which added a lot more depth to their relationship all of a sudden, and the characters reflected that in a realistic way, their time together wasn't ignored like it was nothing, but it was still weird for them when just crossing paths in a certain place changed everything. She already knew because of his uniform, but the fact that she didn't say a word would impact him, on top of finding out who she is and what happened to her.

All the characters felt really well developed for the time they had, and you get a glimpse of all their personal issues that we all have that most people outside of our close relatives have no idea, but, as it is in our daily lives, that is not the story they were telling, you could get the general idea and imagine what it was like, but they never took the focus away to make room for some unnecessary drama.

Usually I wouldn't say this as being a positive thing, but it didn't really feel like a 46 minutes film, nothing felt rushed and everything was so well developed that I never felt like it should be longer.

Since Wolf Children was originally from 2012 (not how AOTY voting works, but anyway), I guess this might be my favorite anime film of last year.

Definitely recommend it to everyone.

And the main girl is incredible.

PS: Sorry cajun, I was going to start with Millennium Actress, but I had time for Kotonoha no Niwa before lunch, so I went with that, when I'm back I'll get right to it! :D

Just found out about Someone's Gaze, I need this, gotta watch it as soon as possible.

About Kotonoha no Niwa, it just really impressed me how believable the main character was,
even things like feeling him hesitating about finding out who she is and what happened to her, part of him clearly didn't want to risk ruining the beautiful thing they had, and I was impressed by how subtly they managed to pass that to the viewer.

Even his dreams were interesting and unexpected, I loved it so much.

Now let me eat some food (please don't bully me, Sidonia)

Finally caught up to this thread. Still not compelled to start any new anime yet so backlog ahoy!

Tantei Opera Milky Holmes Act 2 3

This is so much better than the first season I don't even know where to start. Or maybe it's Stockholm Syndrome, not sure which. I could comment further but out of context it's just going to be me rambling about sea cucumbers, nipple whips, tentacles, unconvincing government workers, and Cordelia continuing to be the best character.

Detective Conan 295:
Well, the pacing in the latter part of the episode was kind of slow, and the resolution was a bit too neat and convenient for my tastes, but overall this two parter was pretty good, and definitely well above the normal levels of an anime original case. I like how they gave pretty much everyone in the cast some nice moments. It's a shame that the end of the second episode mostly came down to characters sitting around and figuring out what was happening miles away, and then everything getting a bow put on it and the power of friendship or whatever that was supposed to be.

Madoka Magica 7

Now I finally understand why Kyoko is like this, makes sense due to her past which is definitely sad. Know on to Sayaka, I really feel bad for her like she's been struck with an awful situation. The moment where Madoka hugs Sayaka hit me with a lot of feels, especially on what Hitomi is going to do which made me mad since she's causing a lot of grief for Sayaka. I know Hitomi isn't to be blamed but seriously the person who was with Kyosuke like everyday to make him feel better was Sayaka, so that was really a bitch move. The end of the episode was really great due to the action scene with Sayaka and artistically it looked great with the white and black, and how well it blended with the music. But damn Sayaka going psycho but I really don't blame her and considering that she's my favorite character so far.

So I'm re-watching Eureka Seven. The last time I watched it was probably...2008ish and I didn't really think much of the series then. I didn't really care for the main characters and thought the pacing was rather turgid, but this around I'm enjoy it a lot more. Of course, I'm only up to episode 10 so it's still early days.
I also recently rewatched it and enjoyed parts of it more. The kids that were once grating weren't so bad to me anymore, etc. Goes to show how time, experience and being a more informed viewer changes things.

Yeah Kyoko had a hell of a backstory.Once I really understood what she was like she easily became my favorite.

groovy.
I have another shipment arriving on Monday. More happy animu including S2 of hidamari. Also a certain adorable abomination.

Greetings Zachy kun.
So far Ive watched One week Friends, Is the Order a rabbit, Coffin Princess, Mekakucity actors, and The world is Still Beautiful. do you have any recommendations?
Mushishi and Jojo are the obvious answers! Also Ping Pong and I can't believe you of all people forgot about Date A Live S2.

Don't tell me that
Sayaka died
, if that's the case what the flipping fuck whyyyyyyyyyyyy why you do this to me. Is this anime trying to screw with me seriously. Those tears just killed me at the end, like nothing good happens for anybody in this anime. I swear the person who wrote this story were really sadistic and probably enjoyed the despair from these girls. And also screw those men who were talking shit like that , men who say shit like that are garbage and shame me as a man.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders Episode 3:

Okay, wasn't expecting The Bangles to show up there in the ED and honestly the pick is a little trite. Anyway, a solid if unspectacular episode as we have reached the full establishment of the situation and now we are off on the globe spanning adventure.

I like the Bangles. :( Eternal Flame is one of my favourites songs.
They go to a
Bangles
concert in Gilmore Girls. It makes sense there. As a cap to Jojo every week it's weird.

I'm still having a bit of trouble "getting into" this show - the metaphorical hero imagery is weird and I'm honestly not quite sure what the point of it is, and I find myself having trouble keeping track of the characters occasionally (when Smile takes off his glasses I can barely recognise him >.>). But the show feels so cool and unique that I enjoy it regardless.

And to be honest even if I hated everything about the show I would probably keep watching it just for dat ED. Seriously. It's too good.

Needs more of the Chinese guy, though.

That's interesting because for me, this show has some of the more distinctive character designs around:

Madoka Magica 9

Okay that ending song that has Sayaka and Kyouko really put me in the dumps considering what had happened. Goddamnit why do these girls have to be struck hard with this magnitude of despair. Man Kyouko really turned around in this episode though while Homura is still the same. I have to say fuck that bunny since he takes life for granted and especially on what he said at the end of this episode made me so angry.

Whoa, what happened last night? Something about Fairy Tail on MAL being rated higher than Cowboy Bebop?

Lol at some people. I may have only seen like, one episode of Bebop, and Fairy Tail may be one of my guiltiest pleasures here, but seriously? Wow.

Whatever the case, I'm just glad it didn't end in disaster.

Hey uh, this is just a suggestion, but I think you should watch episode 10 right now.

Well its probably split by two part, you can still hope if you want.. but for me they picked perfect song.

I'm thinking they'll stick with the song throughout like they did with Roundabout. And I'm okay with that choice, but there was so much potential for something greater.
