Square Enix trademarks Chocobo Grand Prix in Japan, Chocobo Racing returns?

Square Enix filed trademarks for “Chocobo GP” and “Chocobo Grand Prix” on December 1 in Japan, which were made public today.

“Chocobo GP” was trademarked in English and Japanese, while “Chocobo Grand Prix” was trademarked in Japanese.

The trademark could indicate a successor to the 1999-released PlayStation title Chocobo Racing is in the works. A sequel titled Chocobo Racing 3D was announced for 3DS at E3 2010, but was cancelled in 2013. It could also be tied to an unannounced Final Fantasy XIV or Final Fantasy XI event. Or it could be for something else entirely.

It was a fair racing game at time. It could use some tweaks here and there, but it was kinda solid.

I've not played it before but I do like the idea of a Final Fantasy racing game.

It was a fun and harmless game, even though some special itens can be annoying to deal with.
Its a good way to promote their creatures and other characters. They did this with Chocobo Dungeons for instance.
They can totally go to this route, racing games are very welcome through consoles. They just need to watch out for balancing issues.
