For only $274, you could attend a private party in Frankfurt, organized by Roberts Space Industries in parallel of the Gamescom. For this prize, you could eat, take a pictures with Chris Roberts and witness the announcement of a new $675 ship, the Aegis Nautilus. For now, only people who attended the party can buy it.

In summary: a $274 evening to announce a non-playable ship at $ 675. This is getting ridiculous. Apparently, tickets were available for only a few seconds before they went all sold.

274 dollars is a real steal for a digital spacecraft - where do I sign?
The digital spacecraft was not $275. The meal was $275.

During the meal they were pitched a new a digital spacecraft that was $675.

Also, to be invited to the meal they had to pay for to buy the spacecraft they had to have already spent $1000.

Pay a lot to be invited to pay to pay to win.

You have to hand it to Chris Roberts. He knew that the biggest whales in video gaming are PC players. He knew that separating them from their cash would be like shooting fish in a barrel, and he continues to prove it with events like this.

“A fool and his money are soon parted” has to be a sign in Roberts’ office.

The cult tendencies of the gaming community scare me sometimes.
They should start to sell virtual tinfoil hats.

Got to go, i have a VR meeting with some lizards people to attend.

He's like the FinDomme of PC gamers.

Is Star Citizen a good game?

It's less of a finished game than no man's sky was on launch, so you...know....it's a fucking $300 million disaster that just keeps growing in scale in slow motion year by year. What's more the whales financing this long con have turned the product into a religion. So any sort of criticism on that basis is absolute heresy. Forget the sunk cost fallacy. They've reached Butlerian jihad levels of fundamentalism.

I can't understand this game at all. It's got to be the most expensive game ever made by now... How long has it been in development?

I don't care how people spend their money. If there's a market for digital ships then by all means take advantage of it.

What I don't understand is where this project is actually heading. Judging by their reddit it's nothing but sightseeing simulator. Nothing substantial in gameplay department besides some bare bones, broken basics like pick up this box and deliver it to this place. Flight model has been reworked how many times already? Community is pulling the carpet in different directions with their own ideas, dreams how things should or shouldn't be and the devs catering to one side while angering others with their design decisions. I think their own community is their worst enemy. Everything that's currently in the "game" just seems to be stuck in some kind of eternal rework, work in progress state. The current state of the "game" is close to a broken mess. They are moving at snails pace and their bug problems will only get exponentially worse with such a huge engineering debt.

Is there even any motivation to finish this project when you have such a stable cashflow from selling ideas and concepts? How much Roberts, his brother and wife makes per year in their senior positions in the company?

Will they rework everything again when next gen hits with insane new games that will make Star Citizen look outdated?

Yeah, I dont get it.

Ships and other goods are packs to support game creation.
They give you access first to ship before they ship game so you can fuck around with them.
Only first batch of people had lifetime insurance which made their ships permanent.
Out of those most of them have some low level ships as average contribution is 70-80bucks.

Without lifetime insurance effectively anyone can get to you in space and steal ship. So all of your $10k you spend on your ship will go down the drain. So the only way for you to keep your ship is either not play or form corporation that can actually keep it secure.

Imho it is not an issue. MMO will require initial setup of powers much like EVE online. So people form corporations and alliance themselves even before game starts creating such initial setup.
For most of people faction warfare either way will be complete background.

Is it P2W ? no one knows yet. We don't know what CI have in store for release but i doubt they will be killing goose lying golden eggs.

Either way it won't matter much as there will be much more normal players and whales will work good as background to conflicts much like EVE Online.

People seem to forget that these sort of things and ships are there to fund the development of the game and do not represent how ingame transactions will function.

its for actually FUNDING the game.

i mean what should be instead brain there that person could see that price and go : omg i better buy this faster before its on. ... i mean wtf people ? yes i think this game could be great maybe and i could buy it for 60 as full games go and then i want to buy all ships in game for game credits... i mean why then others even complaining about DLC prices on some games, just look at what people buying here ...
yes i could support game to buy full game pay one time for game as most games works that way. not this one ? devs must be dying later from all those money they got in account like dying from laugh.

I cry about SonyGaf from my chair in Redmond, WA
Well it isn't... any large ship takes a crew to run and these ship are intended to be bought by guilds rather than just 1 person

And entry level to the game is only 35$

Cheapest pack is 56 usd

i once thought so too that entry payment will get you some fun in game but then i learned that it wont. with that starter ship you wont go far or do much there.

Chris Roberts can keep doing this shit forever. Doesn't even need to put the game out. Just model ships and sell them to these motherfuckers until he dies a rich old fuck.

For the measly price of just sixty three quid you will receive this amazing jpeg spaceship.

Beautiful isn’t she? She’s an Omega class cruiser and comes equipped with a star drive, heat projectors and tractor harpoon as standard.

But that’s not all. If you purchase your jpeg spaceship today I’ll also throw in a luxury spa, conference room and roulette wheel absolutely free.

This particular ship is called the Peekwod and specialises in harvesting the lucrative space cows that are so abundant in the Sol sector.

Just look at her. Imagine yourself at the controls.

Elegant? Yes. Bewitching? Yes. Beguiling? Yes. Yours? Yes! For just £63!!!!

Bargain.

Space whales ? Like the plot from Star Trek IV ?
From a wiki article:
"Gormaganders spend their entire lives feeding off alpha particles in the solar winds. They often get so consumed by this task that they tend to ignore even their other biological instincts, such as reproduction."

Seems about right.

I have never actually heard of someone playing this game. No one on GAF, REEEE, YT ever talk about actually playing this game. The only reason I know this game is a thing is because people talk about the insane prices.

At this point I don't believe anyone is actually playing this thing. Its an elaborate hoax worse then muh Russia.

Everyone's to do list at that company:

Priority 1: scour forums for more donations

Priority 2: work on spaceship models exteriors

Priority 3: set up meet and greet events for anyone whose donations equal 25% or more of their annual wages

Priority 4: work on spaceship model interiors

Priority 5: hold meetings to evaluate pricing model for spaceships

Priority 6: work on audio of spaceship thrusters

Priority 7: make 2 minute squadrom 42 demo

Priority 8: work on sound effects of spacehip lasers

Priority 9: vote on a poll whether to tell gamers the game is "coming soon" or "TBD" or "TBA"

Priority 10: help graphic artists every Friday add Robertson head screw bolt textures to spaceship landing gear

I haven't seen anything about this game recently. So I was wondering how is it going, when will they finish? Will they finish?

But this is just... Why would they finish? They are fine now.

What a nonsense.
