Cloud Imperium Games marked a major milestone Sunday (May 24) as the game developer's open world massively multiplayer online space game "Star Citizen" has reached $1 billion in lifetime funding before formalizing a release date for its full commercial launch.

It's an impressive benchmark for any title, but especially for a game 14 years in the making that was originally targeting a 2014 release.

If there is one thing I figured in this life, is that it's ok for some people to get robbed and scammed.

The level of idiocity you must pocess to fund this and continue pouring money to these people is unmatched . So cheers to that and here is hoping you lose more money till you dead ass broke.

Thank you

What does this game offer to reach such absurd numbers?
The only things I know is the game is somehow still in development and filled with microtransactions.
And why is Squadron 42 a separate purchase?

they've never gotten anything from me, & i've never gotten anything from them. so, we're even...

Me neither. I've been waiting for over ten years to buy Star Citizen, I just keep waiting for the 1.0 release.

Maybe in another ten years? 😂

It's become a cult at this point, of 55 year old nerds (used to be 45 year old nerds) trying to chase the wing commander dragon of their youth, spending their kids' retirement on JPEGs of fake space ships.

I remember a friend saying Uncharted 3 on PS3 was going to be visually obliterated by Star Citizen soon.
We were playing the then brand new Resident Evil 6 in Co-Op.

We have this conversation every single $50M threshold.

2026 will be again a record year, to nobody's surprise when you see the content added.

What does this game offer to reach such absurd numbers?

Peoples are playing this daily with huge concurrent numbers. The game has no competition with what its doing. Jank and all, under all that the MMO sandbox they have simply has no competition. On top that CIG has made major changes to the game in the past 2 years, including a lot of stability and content.

The only things I know is the game is somehow still in development and filled with microtransactions.

What? You can pay $45 and play for years and get nearly all ships in the game (even stealing others') for 0$ microtransactions.

Even when Star Citizen 1.0 will be "released", it won't stop there.

Elite Dangerous was "released" in 2014, and it basically bled Frontier to the point where one year they were -$25M and Braben had to step down, now they have no money to invest really into the fundamentals of that game such as the engine and it'll dwindle down and die. A lot of the ED fanbase moved to Star Citizen for one. But ED "released".

And why is Squadron 42 a separate purchase?

You can't even buy Squadron 42 if you wanted for years now, so no?

So wait ... This game is actually playable?

Yes.

The thing is that SQ42 took a lot of resources from Star Citizen but with that project in the final phase, a lot of the team shifted back to Star Citizen and the patches keep adding and adding.

Some of the latest patches for PVE content, destiny vibes

Being able to be a fighter within a carrier and traveling between solar systems with your buddies for a mission is pretty fucking cool

Or offer protection services to haulers into PVP systems

Or just Sandbox, if there's players looking for opportunities, there's always gonna be the other side trying to find a way to get it from you (pirates)

Is it something I would recommend right now? No. Well you can always try for free in those free weekends and see. But the game is very sandbox right now and that's not for everyone. The full blown mission progress will come later, right now it's more like a random generator for solo missions and its the legacy one that hasn't had work done on it for years.
There's the PVE content from the patches I showed in the spoiler but not really solo content, more like raids.

Thing is peoples saying it's a scam is cute. How dare thousands of peoples daily have fun in the MMO!

Fools and their money. Squardon 42 when? I wonder how much WOW has cost over its lifetime? You know an actual proper game. Do you think its cost a billion dollars?

And at the end of the day, Star Citizen is all about the friends we make along the way. We got the biggest ongoing scam in the history of human citizenship right here.
