Star Citizen crosses $1 billion in funding

Is there a documentary on this like , isnt GTA 6 budget close to a billion
Like wtf are we doing now if we have crossed a billion and no where near to release ?

I love how Star Citizen always triggers people on GAF. "Scam" "Nerds burning money" etc. It has more active users than its competitors. 50k is no small number. All nerds who got scammed and went broke I guess.

Money coming from "unknown means", being fed into this business to make the money appear legit.

This is totally a money laundering scheme.
They have a fuck ton of people working on this game, not exactly an efficient way of doing it.

Not quite on the scale of grift that led to Sony buying Bungie but a solid effort nonetheless. I wonder what, if any, is the overlap between Star Citizen supporters and Marathon players?

I bought the Kickstarter for $35 (or was it $30...) back in the days. Didn't offer it much of a thought for about ten years

Downloaded the beta when people started talking about it being enjoyable, ended up playing the beta for more than the majority of full price releases.

Anyway, here the other day, I heard some weird noise in the background, it almost sounded like:

"OH"W CNA OYU BE SO !!ELLGLBI!U OYU UOGHBT NTIO A MCS!"A!!"

Spongebob Patrick GIF

I'm not sure what the fuck that noise was, sounded like a retard mouse squeaking.

Anyway, interesting project. It's fine, and in VR doubly so. Oh, and I'm also supposed to get a single player game as well. SO, already 200 hours of SC, + a 100+ hours SP game. Not bad for like a meal's worth at McDonalds.

Edit: I bought Diablo 3 premium editions for my and my son to play together for $240. Now THAT was dumbass move! I'll take the blame for that one...

I don't play, I think i backed it for £30 years ago but its certainly not a money laundering scheme. You'd get about $0.01 to the dollar and your legs chopped of by who ever you where doing it for.

They are taking the piss and need a good shake but thats about it.

Its not a scam. I used to watch a streamer who would play this a lot, after every update etc, and its a decent game.

Problem is after the amount of time and money, its never going to live up to peoples expectations.

Too many yes men on the project instead of telling the top to stop expanding and lets finish what we got.

Honestly all this early access shit should be illegal, unless it has set dates clearly posted for release. They are simply promising the world to generate income and never delivering a completed project. Don't get me wrong I think EA should be allowed with lower prices during EAbas a bonus for gameplay testing your product. Fixed release dates and ability to refund portion of that if the project fails

Was that the stretch goal for releasing the game?

Idk about stretch goals, but it was released to the public to buy and download as a fully playable experience (Fly in an open world, Land on stations, Do missions, Interact with other players) in 2017 via alpha 3.0.

First public playable release you could buy intoAug 29, 2013Hangar Module opens to all backers
First playable version of the actual universeDec 11, 2015Alpha 2.0 (PU) released
First official Early Access releaseDec 23, 2017Game becomes public Early Access

so is this the most expensive game of all time now if we discount ad budgets?

Nah, GTAVI, easily.

SC could potentially beat it in ~15 years.
