Star Wars Battlefront: PS4 is outdoing Xbox and PC combined [in concurrency numbers]

Is there a more detailed explanation of how these numbers are tabulated. Seems like publishers more often than not want to hide them these days.

I expect the numbers of concurrent players to be lower than something like cod. Anectdotal but the casual gamers who picked it up will probably just be jumping on here and there and not having marathon sessions every day during launch. Have a few friends who aren't really gamers who have the game and haven't even played it yet or only dabbled in a mission or two so far.

cripterion: it does not? it theory it does damage the sell, which is bad...

Welcome to 2005. Piracy is negligible these days, and non-existent for multiplayer games. In fact every EA game these days uses Denuvo, which is a near uncracked anti-piracy tool.

Of course, piracy effects sells. The problem is, this one is a mp only game without a serverbrowser and with an origin based account system. If you pirate it you can't do much but play the training missions over and over again. It's not worth it, even for free.

You'd think with the much install base of PS4, the number would be higher between Xbox One and them. Is EA Access numbers being tracked in that? Just curious? I know shooters still tend to do really well on Xbox One even though PS4 now outsells. How do these numbers line up with battlefield 4, Hardline? I wouldn't be surprised if the poor reviews, no single player also lowered sales more than they'd have liked. Still will sell like gangbusters though.
The link in the op showing SWB numbers has links to bf4 and hardline.

Here's a graph of Battlefield 4 numbers, per platform:

For those who don't know, EA offer an open API to Battlelog.

Haha, what? Are we really going back to "Battlefront sold badly on XB1 because xb1 players already have forza" again?

On Xbox you have all Halos in MCC, H5 and the multiplatform shooters as options, Titanfall even with a low population is still an option, Gears ultimate plus Gears 2 and 3 come second December. These all count as options plus inclusive of EA 10 hour access. Those are excellent numbers on Xbox imo.

PC gamers are more demanding and need their games to have a lot more content than Battlefront offers.

I always find it funny how some people are always downplaying low PC numbers. If a game sells well on PC it shows the greatness of the platform, if a game doesn't sell on PC it's because 'the PC people are more demanding' and 'CS GO takes sales away' etc. (Such as a while ago when some racing game didn't sell well and people said the exact same things.)

Seen this exact thing many times over and over again. Some people really like to make excuses for what?

For me this game is just gonna be an occasional snack that I throw in between sessions of cod. I don't expect this type of game to be anyone's main game nor be the most played game during peak hours

That should be more reason to believe the userbase on Xbox should be more receptive to shooters than on other platforms not less, it'd be like me making the argument that JRPG's are too crowded on PS4 so the Xbox crowd might be more hungry for the next Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts.

It's not excuses, if the game doesn't sell well, maybe people rather spend their cash elsewhere? I got refunded on Origin cause I didn't like the game at all and friends around me are not picking it up either because of bad word of mouth.

If BF4 is posting the same numbers as this when it Battefront just released maybe that does say something?

Sonys lackluster first party lineup for the holidays paid off, congrats.

You mean the holiday first party lineup they didn't need to have to win? That's how this war is playing out at the moment. Sony didn't even need Uncharted in order to hold its lead over MS.

It works both ways, the amount of people downplaying high PC sales in other contexts (like the VC or SC2 sales thread) is common as well.

Though, the sales success of games happen or don't happen for certain reasons, it isn't just a random chance. Sometimes it's worth looking at those reasons. And looking at the comparatively low total concurrent numbers maybe it's a larger reason as well.

People really like to start poo flinging at PC gamers when a game doesn't sell that well on PC but is a hit on consoles as if these platforms have people with the same exact interests. Why is it so hard to stomach for some people that most current PC gamers just don't give a fuck about most AAA games as much as console gamers do? It's always gotta be a sales contest.

You honestly think Halo 5 has had no impact on the sales of Black Ops 3 and Battlefront for the console? Of course shooter fans will buy all 3 and there are shooter fans that only buy one. Likewise, Battlefront probably is also stealing a lot of the Halo player base. 3 major shooters launched within 3 weeks of each other on Xbox One.

Well that's great but can you tell me what that has to do with forza?

This is generally a really tired excuse in any case. When the next gen consoles launched the PS4 had several more options for FPS (KZ:SF, Blacklight retribution) XB1 had exactly none. Didn't stop BF4 tracking higher numbers on PS4 though.

It's so people can justify having console exclusive games continue being developed on consoles with (hopefully) PC games being excluded as a platform altogether or at least be given the b-team treatment with garbage ports since devs and pubs will follow the money.

True, I get irritated by both sides ;) Most times I just ignore these sales threads.
Offcourse it's worth looking for the reasons why an IP or game sells worse than it should sell, but most reasons given here are just very vague and strange, as I listed them in my previous reply. PC gamers that are apparently 'more demanding' is not a reason.

And for the record, I'm a pc gamer and most of my friends are (casual) pc gamers, so i'm not trolling or anything. (And honestly I want every publisher to do well financially, but I wouldn't mind Battlefront to under deliver since they have no singleplayer experience.)

Yes because it has sold barely a fraction of what Blops 3 will likely sell on the platform. Have you not seen the sales figures? Halo hasn't dominated the Xbox One like everyone expected it to. We're yet to see how well the other holiday shooters have performed on the platform, but we know how Halo has performed and it isn't well enough to say it's preventing other games from selling to its userbase.

So from day zero PC numbers were higher than on any other console? And overall BF4 were significantly higher too? Do we have a similar statistic for Titanfall?

What are you talking about? Some of the most popular PC games offer "no" single player experience :LOL, dota2, CS, ect ect.

Thats what happens when you release a beyond shitty PC version.

Titanfall PC got no where near XBox on release. The PC version was doomed when they revealed its features.

Just because they're a PC player that doesn't mean they have to embrace this as a rule and always be okay with it. I think it's perfectly reasonable for someone to want a story mode in a rich story-centric universe like Star Wars, relative to established franchises built on multiplayer only.

I'd say the same is true for battlefront as well. Read the thread about the reveal of no server browser. That is an instant red flag. But the beta still sold me despite all of its shortcomings and I'm having a blast on pc.

no surprise here , haven't seen any one of my little PC gaming community to even thinking about buying it for various reasons:
1) MP only game for 60 bucks,
no galactic conquest
2) no space battes
3) way low on content compared to previous battlefronts
4) impressions from beta:
- felt like reskinned battlefield
- after while of fun it was more boring than even Hardline
- no substance
- no depth.
5) Origin + Denuvo

I guess even great licence can't save mediocre game on PC

1)Bf2 was mostly the same, doubt any soul played it for its SP only
no conquest , space battles etc are all included in point 3 which everyone accepts as true.
4) -there were no such impressions, this was only all the talk when they first revealed dice was doing it.
- to you maybe, it wasn't the overwhelmingly popular consensus
- again, your opinion .
- essentially the same the thing , not to mention, why is depth and complexity always a good thing? not every game is for pros and tournaments.

5) could be, dont care , hasnt stopped games from selling before.

all in all. YOU didnt buy it because YOU didnt like it . which is fine.
but your reasoning for its performance is in general is awful.

Can someone please give me a a chart between BF3 Players vs BF4 player & Battlefront player at launch.

Heres are the Battlefront ryt now.

Currently online players

PC: 23,232 (24h peak: 49,871)

XBOXONE: 40,234 (24h peak: 110,817)

PS4: 95,673 (24h peak: 187,286)

Total: 159,139

COD BO3 got 18000 players playing ryt now on PC.

So maybe Star wars doing better than Black ops 3 ON PC ...Maybe ????????????

No-one has answered whether these are US figures or WW?

I really hope EA don't force DICE to dumb-down and simplify Battlefield 5 even further. Battlefront felt too casual-orientated for me. That's the reason I avoid COD too (play fps on PC mainly).

I don't know. But I would expect worldwide numbers. Still remember that if that is live figures, the data in the OP is from midnight to one in Europe, so I guess that the numbers more or less describes the current US.

To say there's an exclusivity deal, and the amount of top class shooters on Xbox atm while having a lower WW sales count compared to the PS4. They're bloody excellent numbers.

They are pulled directly from the EA API.
They are World Wide.

If that is true then yeah, what we are seeing is pretty much US figures. Also consider the PS4 has a massive install base in Europe who may have mostly all been asleep when these figures were captured and that the PS4 is the most popular platform. So yeah, all sales debate in this thread could be pretty silly.

All these theories as to why it doesn't have massive numbers..

Origin only!
PS4 has no games!
Released on a Tuesday! No game has ever done that with success!
It's not a holiday!
Wait til Black Friday and Christmas!

Comes down to the game being mediocre with not much content. People played the beta and they saw the game on twitch. There are way better alternatives out there regardless of your platform
