The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake for PlayStation 5 and PC will have updates to share "in the next several months", it's been confirmed. Speaking during the Q4 Embracer Group report (the owner of developer Aspyr Media), board member Matthew Karch explained how Saber Interactive is also lending a hand with development as the game is "basically" being remade from scratch.

Karch said (transcribed by Push Square): "Aspyr has gone full in to make this the best game that they can make. When we acquired Aspyr, we knew from the start that they would require our assistance. Saber has tremendous expertise in creating these types of products. We've done it on Halo — on multiple Halo products — we've done it on other titles that we've remastered over
on other platforms."

He then adds: "We're fully confident that the game is going to be fantastic but it's a massive, massive product and massive products require a lot of effort and a lot of time to make good. And especially when you're talking about a game already old — very old — we've basically had to remake that game from scratch. I would say in the next several months you'll be hearing more from us about it."

The Saber Interactive CEO also alludes to the deal Sony has made for the remake, securing it as a PS5 console exclusive. If Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake is indeed set for a reveal in the coming months, then either June's Summer Game Fest Showcase or a rumoured Sony event are probably the two likeliest places for it to appear.

Kind of seems weird to be a ps5 exclusive when original was Xbox exclusive.

Hopefully they have something substantial to show and this won't just be a CG trailer, devs talking over concept art or some sort of "in engine" cinematic trailer.
Let it cook until you have something real to show.

So this year?

PS is going for the nostalgia this year. Might have KOTOR, TLoU, and a Bloodborne remake this year. Add Megaman Powered Up to the PSN store and we ready freddy.

What Bloodorne remake? Also, Kotor is scheduled for 2023...unless a delay happens.

You're looking forward to a developer who has never actually made a game outside of just porting old PC games to consoles and Mac to remake one of the most popular RPGs ever made? Ok.
What "developer"? They have got Bioware and Capcom veterans working on this game, alongside Sony. Game developers with decades of experience in developing and shipping AAA games.

They're hoping everyone forgot that they hired Sam Maggs to re-write it.

They hired her as one of the writers to support the process, not as the lead writer or a narrative director.

Besides, she is no longer a part of the project. She left the company last year and is now working as a comics writer for Captain Marvel and Transformers etc.

All i want is to never see Revan with dual lightsabers or a purple lightsaber.

He had a red lightsaber in the game, in every cutscene, which is the closest we have to tier 1 canon. That one Kotor 2 scene isn't literally Revan, it's a vision/ apparition, and that comic book shit is just a misinterpretation.

If he's forced to hold dual light sabers at all throughout the game, they better make them orange and light blue (Heart of the Guardian and Mantle of the Force crystals).

I'm keeping expectations around the bottom of the barrel. Fallen Order was made by a great team with a director with action game experience on God of War, and had very limited RPG elements.

This is made by a largely unproven team trying to make action combat, and on top of that make all the deep quests, dialogue, and all the trappings of a full RPG. And we know some dialogue and story elements may be adjusted.

Odds are that it's going to be rough.

I agree with these concerns, but, if someone just wants to remain optimistic about it, they can take solace in the fact that it's a remake. So the developer already has a pattern to follow on important things.
