Am I the only one who hates the look of the Mantis armor? I keep using it though (for now) cuz of that amazing +40 carry weight. I REALLY wish they had a Halo-like armor color customization type system. It'd make the armor a bit better to look at.

A perfect system would be this:

All suits/helmets/packs (gear) are only cosmetic in nature.

You collect upgrades for your gear.

All gear have upgrade slots.

You can swaps upgrades between gear.

But I’m not a game designer so what do I know. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Another thing that’s pissing me off is that unique weapons are not marked in any way, outside of name. Would it be so hard to add a UNIQUE tear with like platinum color or something. FFS, Bethesda.

Can anyone confirm if companions equip gear/weapons you give them?
I just got Andreja starting "Into The Unknown".
Before heading out I bought her some decent armor and weapons + minimal ammo.

I think she's using it but not 100% sure just on looks.

I wish I could give her cigarettes like I did with Jericho in FO3 😃

They do for sure, just remember you need to equip them and give them at least one ammo for the weapon.

sorry....that's all I got
No, of course I knew that, haha. I meant what some of the stats meant.
Airborne doesn't mean "height". Armor stats like airborne, corrosive, thermal, phys, eng, etc are all your resistances to said effect. Phys is the resistance to physical damage. Airborne is resistance to airborne contaminants on planets. Thermal is your resistance to temperatures on hot/cold planets. For example, you will get frostbite if you stay too long outside on a very cold planet. Armor stats will affect the length of time before you get affected by this.

If you want as much height as possible with your boost pack, you can do 2 things. Max out the tier 1 boost pack skill in the tech skill tree. Also, you'll want to find a boost pack that is of better quality. The first boost packs you'll come across will just say "Basic boost pack". The higher tier boost packs that you'll want will say "Balanced boost pack " or "Power boost pack" or "Skip boost pack". This will give a higher/longer boost per use.

Thanks, much appreciated. I had not realised it was about those things. Usually a game has a option to get more detailed info on it. I truly thought it was about how high I can jetpack around, lol.

Something else...

My guy is specialised in shotguns and stuff and on Kreet especially I've found shotgun shells a plenty, but no shotgun. I'm now on New Atlantis, would be cool if I can buy one here or perhaps find out later I guess. Just a bit odd how many ammo I found for it, but the weapon itself.....

I am not far in the game, New Atlantis now but I do wish they had found a way to hide these loading screens. They aren't long, but having them made into an animation would have gone a long way.

Like in RDR2 when you enter a train, animation shows train leaving with camera zoomed out. Cyberpunk you enter a elevator but it happens and isn't a loading screen.

Just go into her inventory and press triangle or Y on the thing you want her to equip, and give her at least one ammo for that gun.

If she doesn't use it, then it is bugged, it happened to me multiple times, they have lucid dreams about mike tyson and go berserker on enemies.

The last...holy shit...18 days are a blur. Haven't been sucked into a game like this in a LONG time. Most fun I've had in a BGS title since Oblivion and Fallout 3. I've put in close to 60 hours, and I feel like I've barely made a dent in this bastard. It's crazy. Once people start modding in entire planets and systems, this game will probably have cool stuff to do in it until 2203.

I've played the game for 60+ hours now and I feel like i'm running out of content and almost seen everything the game has to offer tbh

Other than base building there seems to be very little to actually do after finishing the main story and faction missions

Its the engine limitations. The game has the same loading screens as all their games, (entering a building, exiting, entring a ship, etc).
Thankfully the loading screens are way shorter than any of their past games.

I have other suits with extra carry weight, but no I think it looks good on female characters; lore wise it was also made for a female so maybe that's why.
The constellation suit (mark 1) looks nice and sleek too; for the bulkier ones I like the bounty hunter and deepseeker suits

Yep, it's the engine. End of the day it's just an upgraded Gamebryo engine. Creation Engine is a cool name but it's still that engine. Right? So even if they wanted to make the loading, they probably couldn't have?

If you feel like you're running out of content search on YouTube videos about 'side quest you shouldn't skip'. There are a lot of quality stuff that's 'hidden' and can very easily be missed.

That's a bit reductionist, most studios don't rebuild engines from scratch, ship of theseus situation.
So even if they wanted to make the loading, they probably couldn't have?
Maybe, maybe not, we don't know what kind of logic the engine is executing, I mean you can jump down from neon/atlantis back to the spaceport, without any loading, so those are just for convenience; as for entering areas, it might be because of the way the engine memory handles object persistence, they could probably do without but have too much of an impact on performance. Remember there's pretty much no other game out there that does the same insane object persistence.

I hate most of the suits but I like Starborn, Mantis and Bounty Hunter suits the most. The Anti-Xeno suit is a nice armored option too. I prefer something sleek but I also understand the spacesuits are modeled after our own which are quite bulky to not only protect the wearer but also houses several components. It's a nice detail.

They do yes. I gave Barrett one grenade and he spams grenades all the time. It’s pretty hilarious.

They have unlimited ammo so you can also give them a type of gun and a tiny bit of ammo and it won’t run out.

Yep, give them a minigun and 1 round of ammo and they will never run out, it’s pretty funny.

Alright I'm getting really tired of a couple of things here now, namely

  • The Ship builder, its not intuitive at all and does a really bad job of telling me what I can or cannot do, like just a filter for "Can use" would be a great QoL improvement that really should already be in game, I need to get a Grav Drive that can let me go to 28ly, fine I can do that, oh wait no I can't as my Star Eagle or Frontier ships will not allow me to use any of those Grave Drives with a Reactor I can get
    • So I straight up bought a 25ly Ship, but because its a C Class Ship I need to upgrade my Piloting Perk twice, so now waiting on that, no biggie but really should've locked the ship so I couldn't buy it until I could pilot it or hell let me hire a Pilot
  • The Temples, they are fucking tedious as fuck to do, its a loop of Fast Travel to Vladimir (the only black Russian I've ever seen), fast travel to Planet, follow Anomaly (which tbh after doing the first, just look for the Obvious Temple on the Horizon) then once inside, follow the lights until the Spinning object finishes, could have these not been decent puzzles? There are some fun ones in the game already so why not reuse the aspects of those at least

I just upgraded the perk that allows for more distance on a grav drive with the Star Eagle and it met the criteria. I also don't care for the temples - one or two times is fine, but it's a very boring mechanic to do so many times. I agree they should have done them a little differently.

Tbh I forgot about that perk so I may upgrade that next

The time can definitely fly by. At 30hrs in I haven't done all that much yet. This one will probably rank among my most played in hours just from how much stuff they put in there, not to mention the expansion possibilities are practically endless.

There's a skill that improves your grav drive. You could put points into that skill or hire someone for your crew at a bar with the skill--a gravdrive specialist or something along those lines. Or a Constellation member might have it, don't know off hand.
Does anyone know if we need to have the skill unlocked to take advantage of a crew members skill or if they just need to be assigned as a crew member?

Like Sarah has max Astrodynamics which is great for long jumps.

Boy did I get into a wild situation over the weekend! So I've been working on the Crimson Fleet questline, which I'm loving, but I still take time off to do other things. One of those other things is to pick a random system, then a random moon or planet, and survey it all. Usually, I pick up a survey mission to do so. Anyhoo, I get to this one planet and almost immediately off in the distance, I see this huge base/fort/factory. I head over there, and see some folks wandering around, and I'm not paying much attention, so I gun a couple down... boom 15,000 bounty with Crimson Fleet!

I'm like, shit, I "work" for those guys! Now, I should have just left and paid my bounty, but no, my dumb ass is thinking "Kill the witnesses, zero bounty!" so I go about on a murder spree, mowing down every Crimson Fleet in the base.... and I still have a bounty. A fucking MASSIVE one, 150,000 credits!

Ok, I'm like, we screw that, and go to re-load my last save. Autosave kicks in, overwriting the last Autosave.... the previous save I did being a Quicksave from WAY before, like a couple hours.

I'm screwed. Don't want to give up the last several hours of stuff. So, I decided to work off the bounty. I only had like 70k credits to my name. Took me a few hours of doing missions, selling stuff I had, etc.

In the end, I decided to own my mistake and live with the consequences hehe.

The temples are the biggest miss in the game, IMO. They should be dungeons with stories in them.

Yeah the temples are one big missed opportunity. It should have been some grandiose moment but the biggest challenge is to find the entrance door.

Should have just skipped the whole puzzle part and made it like the Skyrim wall scriptures which teach you the dragon language.

I'm 99% sure the game tells you if you can't pilot the ship you're trying to buy.

Since achievements are disabled for me (honestly not the biggest deal) as I tried to use the console command to unlock doors to no avail, I decided to try again after reading a tip online. Hey, might as well take full advantage at this point, right?

If you enable the console and you want to unlock a door or whatever, select it with your mouse. Make sure you see "Door" displayed on the screen. If you don't, scroll with your middle mouse button up or down until that option pops up. Then type unlock. And voila.

I feel dense as hell not doing this. 🙄🙄🙄

I was just clicking the door and typing lock/unlock with nothing happening.

Yeah, believe you gotta look at the bottom left of the screen and if you don't have the skill level, it shows the symbol and level requires.

If you do have that skill, there's nothing there

Yeah same here, it’s all I’m playing and talking and thinking about. Not sure that happened even with Elden Ring and that’s my #2 all-time game. Actually I can check that…
Yeah, ”only” 9 days in a row for Elden Ring

Can’t wait to see the Steam stats for this year.

Also, seeing the platform warriors all over the net completely miss the point by still talking about all kinds of unimportant issues is interesting. I think the people who are playing this are fully aware of a whole bunch of issues this game have. But the thing is, people are still having fun! Quit having fun meme is perfect for this game 😁

I had the opppsite

Started off excited to play more but after a few hours im not really motivated to play much

Hoping I can at least beat the campaign but every time I play I get bored

Surprising because most AAA games I tend to really want to binge play but with this I’m like, ehh…I can take my time

You mean the bipolar chick that can be negative about both options in a quest?

All yours...
Gotta love it. Open world (open galaxy?) WRPG with lots of player choice + opportunities to get what you want in unethical ways -> make all the companions range from lawful good to chaotic good + hyper judgmental of everything you do.

It's not even that, she was literally bipolar in the uc quest.

you can chose one option to close a quest and she is immediately not happy with it, but if you chose the other one she is gonna say something against it later, you can't win

I finally played this a bit this weekend. It's great, with some bewildering decisions. No city map being the stupidest one I've come across so far. And there are too many loading screens. I'm sure I'll find many more joys and annoyances as I get further in...

It got me thinking though. I've never been one of these 'reviews are pointless' people, but they really are. Giving this a 7 is both outrageous and spot on somehow. It's the landscape of overhyping everything that's made review scores largely irrelevant. Starfield is better than a lot of games that got 9 or higher, but it's undeniable that there is at least three points worth of things that could be better. I don't know what the answer to that is, other than just making up your own mind.

I can see well over a hundred hours spreading out in front of me though, that's for sure.
