the middle girl looks like Maki so I'm down for this.

how low are my localization chances? it's zero, isn't it?

edit: oh somehow missed imageepoch. so it's -1% but then we get shit like Time and Eternity and that OTHER game ffs.

Meh. These loli chibi animu designs just aren't generic enough!

Should be "interesting" to see how they use the stylus in this game.

Who are you trying to fool. It's pretty obvious what they are going for.
For the record, I have the same issue with people referring to Etna that way.

It's pretty clear to me, at least, that they're closer to being teenagers than small children.

There's no way Etna is related to that trope at all, that bugs me too.

look at the math tho

2/3 have good design. the one on the left doesn't.

numbers don't lie and they spell disaster for us.

Well, I guess if you hate Last Ranker, Sol trigger and the 7th Dragon games it's probably time to lower these lofty standards, it's a brave new JRPG world out there.

Indeed. How dare we judge a studio based on the games that we have access to in English, as opposed to Japanese-only titles that most people haven't played?

When the notable English evidence is Sands of Destruction, Criminal Girls, Arc Rise Fantasia, Fate/Extra or Time and Eternity, for instance, can you blame people for thinking that imageepoch are a bit crap?

Some new info:

Players must prevent the world from crystallization by the cursed song of Hilda (voiced by Yukari Tamura, top left of scan), the witch of destruction, and fight together with four witches and the knights.

Here’s the cast:

Alto (voiced by Atsushi Abe, bottom left of scan) is the hero. He is a 17-year-old knight who’s lost his memory.
Lisette (voiced by Yoshino Nanjo, middle of scan) is the witch of water and Alto’s childhood friend.
Popo (voiced by Maaya Uchida, right of scan) is the feared witch of the wind. She lives in a cabin on the outskirts of town.

Each witch has her own song. By “tuning” the heart of a witch, you can obtain song magic that only witches can use. Tuning scenes are depicted as anime.

Hopefully it's more Arc Rise Fantasia/Luminous Arc than Time&Eternity.

Props on getting Mitsuda onboard. Looking forward to a localization!

Finally a JRPG where you can play as a teenager with amnesia and his smoking hot female childhood friend whom he somehow never looked at sexually before.

Doesn't look too good so far, but I will probably give it a shot. Toushin Toshi was a really great game, so I am cautiously optimistic.

This is where you go wrong. In this day and age, for jrpg fans, multiple platforms are necessary. Do you have a PS3/PSV?
I haven't seen much better on the Vita, although I'm open to being proven wrong. But from what I've seen the best, most inoffensive stuff is the Atelier games and its downhill from there.

If its starring cute anime girls and they actually feature in a capacity more then the essentially background nature of the Etrian Odyssey games I'm probably not interested, even if somehow they aren't depicted as sickeningly innocent, in skimpy bikini armor, or both

If you are talking about jrpgs there are numerous ones on PSV/3. Specifically, if we are talking about srpgs, thats a genre thats dying. I said PSV because it has Disgaea but more importantly PSN titles like Tactics Ogre, Jeanne D'arc, Popolocrois etc. The only srpg I can think of on the PS3 is Valkyria Chronicles although it is one of the greatest srpgs I have ever played. In general though there is a lack of srpg's these days.

Well part of the problem is also that I have very little interest in console style JRPGs. The DS was basically my favorite JRPG platform ever because it had things like Radiant Historia, the FF remakes, the DQ remakes, weird stuff like Infinite Space, classics like TWEWY, etc. Those games all felt very different to me than a "console" JRPG experience and there's frustratingly few games like that it seems.

I am surprised they are trying 3DS against but perhaps they see the writing on the wall in regards to future platforms.

This is their first original IP on the 3DS so I am willing to give them a chance. Hopefully if it is good it will be localised.

And their only own IP ever on a Nintendo system as their other games were with publishers like Marvelous and Sega.

What are the chances that this will ever be localized?

And that Forbidden Magna game? Yes, I actually want to play these games.

why? Because they are on consoles? A jrpg is a jrpg. If you make needless eliminations like that no wonder you're struggling to find jrpg's to play and going to Imagepooch to get your fix. The genre is already much smaller than it once was.

I guess the problem is that during the last generation many console jRPGs attempted the cinematographic approach (see: Final Fantasy XIII, Lost Odyssey, etc.) while handheld jRPGs favoured pure and traditional gameplay. Indeed, the most innovative and the finest jRPGs were on DS and PSP.

Not necessarily. RPGs designed for portables are often structured very differently than ones designed for consoles. A preference for one or the other isn't really that weird.

Mitsuda teaming up with Imageepoch again? I'm all for more Mitsuda, but why does it have to be like this ;_;

I thought Sands of Destruction was pretty good. Like, the Chrono Cross sequel we never got, good.

And isn't Black Rock Shooter also available in English? That's my favorite by them actually.

Not sure if I care for this. I haven't played any of their SRPGs yet.

I noticed how only one of the games you listed were self-published by Imageepoch. The rest are stuff SEGA and Capcom paid for. I'm not sure they're representative of Imageepoch's going alone output.

Well, it seems that even that don't sell anymore in Japan, whatever is handheld or console... even Mobile is mostly F2P RPG.

I'm fucking desperate man. Handheld strategy RPGs, especially on the 3DS, are in short supply. I can only play so much Fire Emblem
We definitely need more strategy / SRPGs on 3DS. We have:

Fire Emblem: Awakening (Awesome)
Ghost Recon Shadow Wars (Awesome)
SMT Devil Survivor Overclocked (Sitting unplayed in my backlog)

And that's it? :( Code Name STEAM is probably going to be superb, though. And on VC we have Crystal Warriors and Shining Force: The Sword of Hajya which are fun but somewhat primitive. There's a Tales Of SRPG in development as well, right? It probably won't get localized just like Kinki no Magna and this.

Now, on topic, I'll side with the people who find the designs rather unappealing :/
