Well if people thought western games media has no fan service left this might be something for you.

Since the dawn of time, humankind has stared up at the cosmos with a mixture of trepidation and wonder. Turning our curious eyes toward the glittering stars speckled around our little blue planet, we have often asked ourselves the eternal question:

Are we alone in this universe? What is out there? More importantly… can we bone it?

That’s why we made Subverse - a tactical RPG/SHMUP hybrid that takes place in a fully explorable galaxy where you get to be the Captain of your very own ship...which is crewed by the sexiest and deadliest waifus you can recruit. Oh, and you can also befriend a perpetually stoned imp mechanic with six testicles.

Enter the Prodigium Galaxy – a place ruled by a by a bunch of puritanical, oppressive douchebags who pretty much hate anything sexy. Naturally, it’s up to you lead a covert revolution to overthrow these dickheads with your very own black ops squad of knockout waifus backed up by genetically engineered monsters and a top-secret stolen military fighter ship - all of which can be upgraded into an unstoppable force with loot and credits.

This is actually a game done Studio that normally does video game character porn. And it seems to be a mix out of Xcom meets Mass Effect meets SHMUP and it looks pretty high quality.

Honestly I love these kind of stupid games. And the quality of their movies (not talking about the content) is pretty good as well. This is their first step into the gaming Industry and I am surprised that no one in the media had noticed this game despite the huge success already.

There is a lot more info in the Kickstarter Campaign

Steam Page:

And yes I backed it today as well :p

What's your take on how it's affecting Tim Pool's Subverse channel? :p:p:p

Seems Studio FOW told Tim Pool he makes "crappy Jordan Person" videos. >.>

Honestly This is how i noticed this game in the first place. I like Tim but I never knew about Subverse before and he really should not got for this fight when everyone knows him from Timcast

Definitely on my radar. Its nice to see a few of these hentai games actually get some proper budget and dev skills and support. As most seem to peter out and die an early death. Plus the inclusion of different game modes recalls a time when developers actually tried to do more in games before the corporate world smelt all the potential space-bucks of microtransactions and dlc practices. I hope it does well for them. I enjoyed the jokes about the current state of censorship. Their movies are typically good stuff too.

Studio Fow....
Where did I've head that before?...

Ah yes!
Those mad guys that made a carrier of making insanely well animated porn on source engine.
...and then they got banned from Patreon for putting porn in their front page...

They are very talented animators, but their original characters look generic as fuck (including Fow-chan). They should had hired some propper concept artist to help with their character designs.

Is discussion of these sort of games even allowed on Gaf?

Hey it is Sony approved so. :p

Also this just got a threat on era and people are strangely excited about it :p Guess some people still sleeping there :p
Figures. We saw a noticeable down-tick in degenerates with anime avatars when the schism happened :messenger_winking:

Thread got locked since they don't allow threads about adult games (unless it's the latest outrage topic of course).

The character designs look great. I'm a sucker for this style and I hope this is going to eclipse anything StudioFOW has produced so far (which I'm mostly not a fan off). They should be able to get something really well made done with that money.

If the gameplay is also solid enough, with lots of interactivity instead of just movies, I might end up buying.

Backed this. Would have backed this for more if there was a physical tier, but alas there is not. I'm glad it's doing well, though I always get slightly concerned that going way over the projected budget encourages feature/scope creep, which can be a really bad thing.

Why shouldn't it be?

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Of course.

EDIT: saw something made by them. Animation is really good. Character design is a bit flat but the models are well made. Direction (camera angles, etc.) is quite poor.

The humor of the game is right up my alley for sure. Main character reminds me of Deadpool for some reason.
I always thought that Deadpool made his mask out of a black full-face and red underpants.
In a deleted scene from the movie they show that it's a cheap Spiderman mask pulled inside out.

Been an early fan of theirs since they started doing sfm movies. Excited to see a full on game from them. And the kickstarter success fills me with joy, knowing that some sjws are reeeing somehwere in the distance at it.

I backed it when it was first announced, but recently pulled out due to the Tim Pool conflict. I don't like how they're handling it, unfortunately I support TIm more. I hope they can work something out so I can back it again.
Per trademark laws, he has to make an effort to protect the name or he loses it going forward.

The backer comments were odd, they were cheering this game as sticking it to the religious right. Some people are still trapped in the 80s/90s thinking the Moral Majority are the thing censoring media. When the TIm thing happened they just brushed off all his supporters as crazy right wingers.

Didnt he trademark his brand only since April 8th? He has not even gotten an approval. At least that is what I heard.

Date he registered isn't what matters in trademark, it comes down to him proving when he first used it in commerce. The earliest date the name was used as part of a product or service. Registering the trademark provides additional legal remedies and provides a definitive public record of use. I still think there's a reasonable solution to this where both parties would be fine.

I really hope to see more games like this. I love sexy content in games and totally want to see more "game" attached. I so want to see this succeed!

The Sony lens flare is pure gold~

I hope it'll end up good. I'm kinda iffy on how SHMUP and tactical turn based combat will fit in this game, why not just concentrate on one of them? It just seems sort of indecisive and that they're just mashing things in because different people in their team wanted to do different things.

I like the art style, though from what content I've seen from StudioFOW they seemingly make a lot of extreme end porn content that's just not that sexy in my opinion. A lot of cg art caters to niche fetish stuff since that's one of the few ways to actually cater to that audience so it's understandable, but I wonder how much this game will cater to those niches vs. more vanilla lewd stuff. If fetish stuff is what they're going for in this, it definitely diminishes my interest in it. The same goes for the style of humor. I like humor in lewd games, but there is a point where it goes from smart to overly edgy or straight up crass eyeroll-inducing stuff. I guess we'll just have to see if this game will have any substance to it or just a compilation of couple bad minigames and awkward visual novel dialogues to setup some alien tentacle rape scenes.

Update on the combat features

First off, let's reveal some things that apply to both SHMUP and GRID combat!

- Subverse has four entirely unique factions of enemies. Each of them brings unique units and gameplay challenges to the table. The initial release of Subverse will include two with the other half entering the fray not long after. Having this many alien dickheads gives the gameplay more depth and allows us to have a more complex narrative surrounding the absolute insanity that is Subverse.

- Both combat types have several different gameplay modes that add a massive amount of variety to missions. While ANNIHILATION provides your typical "kill everything" quests, there's also DEFENDER. These sections will task you with protecting something like a cargo ship in space or a VIP NPC on the ground.

- If you're a casual gamer, don't worry! Chances are good that you'll be able to make it through to the main story of Subverse without sweating too much (from the difficulty, that is). However, if you're a hardcore gamer, efficient play will earn you more rewards after each mission.

- Rewards generally come in the form of three currencies - credits, bio, and tech, which serve to balance the economy of the game. Credits are a general use resource that lead to all upgrades in some way. Bio helps you unlock/upgrade MANTICORES and tech goes towards upgrades for the F3N1X. However, some purchases may require more than one type of currency.

- Finally, both modes will also deliver amazing boss fights throughout the game that tie directly into the plot!

- Your waifus will join you aboard the F3N1X (your fighter ship) and provide unique buffs and weapons that match their personalities! For example, Sova provides a strong burst of shields that can be detonated for AOE damage and Killision brings a dual-horned rail gun for taking down especially tough targets.

- Subverse's SHMUP has a unique and effective UI system that aligns with the ship throughout the action. It displays both ship hull integrity and shields and appears every time you take damage. It can also be toggled to be persistent if you wish. There's also a meter that displays how long your special attacks will take to recharge. This solves the genre-old problem of needing to look at the corners of your screen to receive vital information and take your eyes off your character during life or death moments.

- The SHMUP has side AND vertical scrolling sections. There are also free-roaming levelswhere asteroids and other space debris in the environment add an extra layer of strategy as you can use them for strafe-firing, ambushes or as cover when your shields need time to recharge.

- The F3N1X is the most feared fighter ship in the galaxy for a reason! On top of its endless weapon customization, it is hyper-mobile. You have access to both cruise mode and the charge attack. Cruise mode allows you huge bursts of speed but must be used strategically as it holsters your weapons while active. The charge attack gives you the chance to tear through enemies with the F3N1X itself serving as the weapon, and it's highly effective against large groups of smaller ships.

- We've had a lot of questions about the MANTICORES and what role exactly they serve in combat. Think of it in terms of chess: your waifus are the queens and these guys serve as their knights. Compared to the waifus, they have a more limited range of actions but serve as efficient mutant bodyguards. Also, both waifus and mantics have adrenaline-fueled ultimate attacks that upgrade their basic abilities into something far more vicious!

- There will be a large roster of mantics available in the game. As soon as you have the materials required, Lily can create them for you in the lab aboard the Mary Celeste. However, their incubation may also require special key items that must be discovered somewhere in the Prodigium galaxy.

- Subverse's grid combat is capable of delivering waves of reinforcements. That means new units can spawn as you defeat the previous bad guys, adding another layer of strategy by forcing you to reposition and react on the fly.

- There are two types of damage and corresponding resistances in Subverse. Energy attacks bypass the resistances of enemies with armor, while physical attacks shred through shields. This gives the combat an extra layer of subtle depth and makes your choice of waifu and mantic pairings all the more important as each enemy faction's units require a different strategic approach.

There will soon be a gameplay video. They are just putting it together^^

Someone linked me the trailer and I was like "hold on, this looks like SFM porn made into a game"
Little did I know that it was their origin story.

Not my type of game and I don't like the designs of the "waifus", but it's filling a niche that was clearly there and unexploited.

They surpassed 913000 pounds, Only 77000 left for the final stretch goal.

Why are they dealing in pounds?
It's confusing, because for most, (me included) the sum is shown automatically in Dollars (even though I live in Europe) and many will most likely think that the final stretch goal has already been surpassed.

Anyway...
This video convinced me that this is important.

And this earlier one convinced me that this guy has the time of his life.

I really do object to the idea that porn games in general can't be good. I'd seen plenty at conventions and the early days of streaming that were fine examples of whatever they were trying to be, but just didn't stand out enough without the porn to really sell. Actually, I'd think a lot of those same games sans the porn would do well in the Google Play store these days, but that's another discussion.

My partner and I decided to back this one simply because:
-The trailer made us laugh.
-"a perpetually stoned imp mechanic with six testicles" is just an amazing ting to consider a selling point.
-The actual game part of the game looks damn good.

The third reason is the more important of the three, really.

.....and the 1.000.000 pound milestone has just been broken (about 1.300.000$), unlocking the final stretchgoal that the devs mentioned to have put there as something "unattainable".

Congratulation guys!
It looks like we're going to have a AAA porn game out in the wild!
