Methodology

Data was collected from downdetector.com looking at the number of outages each month for the last 12 months across each website. The three most common problems were also collected. This was repeated for the US and UK to compare both countries. A total outage for the website was also calculated to show the number of outages in the US and UK. For the pie chart, we calculated the average number of issues for each sector.

*Data correct as of 25th June.

How Downdetector works

Downdetector collects status reports from a series of sources, including Twitter and reports submitted on our websites and mobile apps. Our system validates and analyzes these reports in real-time, allowing us to automatically detect outages and service disruptions in their very early stages.

A single person reporting a problem doesn’t constitute a large-scale outage. To make sure that outages are correctly represented, we calculate a baseline of typical problem reports for each company that we monitor. By verifying that issues are affecting a large group of individuals, Downdetector only reports an outage when the number of reports is significantly higher than the baseline.
mod edit: let us do better if we are trying to cause arguments.

Data from a new study indicates that Xbox Live services tend to go down more often for users than PlayStation Network online services.

In the US... Irrelevant research for the rest of the world. Over here PSN works like crap and hardly ever have an issue with Xbox live and steam

It is not a surprise imo.
It was notified and even posted here in GAF in the past (I even made some posts) that after PS4 the PSN started to be more reliable than Live.

Said that Live improved from the first years of Xbox One when it got down more frequently.

I hardly ever play online on either so I don’t notice when they have disruptions. My download speeds are nearly twice as fast on PSN this gen and that didn’t used to be the case.

Waited 20 years for this lol

20 years Sony standing by the rainy window watching Xbox Live perform better, gamers eating warm cookies by the fireplace while Sony waiting for this one survey where finally data shows they finally got their shit together and it's NOTHING BURGER VS NOTHING BURGER.

Congratulations! Welcome to 2002!

It's a US-only data based on reports made by users about outages, not one that actually tracked said outages. Not saying the data is realistic or not, but this report seems kinda pointless.

Guess you'd have lower outages when your base is always playing 3rd person over the shoulder single player games and not amazing mutiplayer games that can be found on GamePass - the best value in gaming for as low as $1 per month.

This is nothing new, since middle last gen PSN has been more stable than XBL.
