There is literally no xbox news you wont spin into being good haha. I think its bad it shows xbox one hasnt got many excluisve games if they keep coming out on pc.

Well he's being positive at least. His post (Which I think spins it a bit of an unrealistic positive way) does touch on a fair point. Several key Xbox titles were also released on PC and still were considered system sellers and key to the brand.

Some of the other posts mentioned largely that console and PC gamers are different markets. While I am an exception and a PC port of an Xbone game which would otherwise be exclusive would stop me from buying the console, I think this is a pretty niche minority.

I really don't understand people that bring up their lack of PC history. They spent a decade working on properties owned by Sony. No shit they don't have PC releases. And they're working on a small title that's on PC called Slow Down Bull.

Why does this matter though. Forgetting about console wars and "who wins" via "exclusives" for a moment; the objective is profit and market share.

There is no telling whether such tactics would work. Hypothetically, what if, Xbox is not synonymous with just consoles at some point in the future. With the whole "mobile first, cloud first" business direction for Microsoft, making Xbox a ubiquitous service attached to Microsoft as a whole, isn't such a bad idea. Stream via the cloud, offer games on their own console platform and PC, consumers pick what they like or can switch between all of them if they want. It could even lead to multiple different Xbox "consoles" maybe specifically for streaming or variable higher power systems. If something like that happened, no matter what sold more / less, people have more value in attaching themselves to Microsoft

Who the fuck is suffering if Sunset Overdrive never comes to PC?

People who want to play it on pc?

It's not other people's fault you have no self control and throw away your money needlessly on a game you know there's a good chance of you getting down the line in a vastly superior state. Your argument is essentially "I want a reason for keeping my xbone around, fuck everyone else". I mean shit, are you really so self centered that you can't take a step back, read your posts, and look at how utterly absurd you sound?

Bingo.

Gears 1, Halo CE, and Halo 2 all received PC ports, and if anything, both franchises were strengthened as far as popularity goes. If someone buys the PC port for the first game, and the sequel is then announced as Xbox exclusive, then that person could buy a console just to play more games in the series.

Fair point. Never considered that

In this case I'd say it's probably someone using the wrong "only on" stock image for this advertisement, and isn't the confirmation of it going to pc.

That being said, it probably will end up on it. What's the point of Insomniac owning their own IP when they can do nothing with it bar put it on a Microsoft console.

Judging by neogaf threads, Xbox one gamess that come to PC must sell like crazy. If only that was remotely true. Xbox platforms will always suffer the specter of "will wait for it on PC" and we will always suffer reading the endless port begging.

Lol, yeah not sure what I was thinking. Haven't heard of Slow Down Bull though...

Do they get more money per sales owning an IP?

Then why keep it just on the Xbox One in the first place if it isn't convincing anyone to get one?

let me make this easier for you

you guys will believe anything if it benefits you lol

sunset isn't the kind of franchise to convince people to get an xbox based on an exclusive sequel
sunset isn't the kind of franchise to convince people to get an xbox based on an exclusive sequel
get an xbox based on an exclusive sequel
based on an exclusive sequel
exclusive sequel

My favorite example of this was Titanfall.

If true, I'd get it on sale eventually for $10 or less. What I've seen of it hasn't excited me too much aside from the art style and colors.

Why do people say things like this? People in here (atleast me), who only own a mid-range PC, are genuinely excited to see a game and developer they love (Insomniac) release the game on PC.

Some of us are absolutely ecstatic at the idea of downsampling this game and amping out every single effect. This doesn't boil down to some nefarious list wars.

As for the "neogaf threads" - there is an incredibly diverse PC community here, so don't be suprised to see people jump out of their seats.

Not totally surprising cos for Ryse and DR3. However I think in this case it's a mistake or slip, not expecting SO till next year on PC (looking forward to it!).

I guess so. Although going forward, you never know what will happen. Look no further than Windows 10 and the plans Microsoft has for that :)

It'll probably depend on how it's received. If it blow up like Gears or Halo Microsoft will keep it close to their chests, if it's a hit & miss like Ryse and Dead Rising they'll let Insomniac do whatever they want with it.

If you bought the console because you were put under the impression that it was an exclusive, I think it's understandable for someone to get pissed off about it.

Although that's more about being withheld information than the port existing in and of itself.

That's a fair point. I don't think I really considered anyone making a purchase solely for the purpose of exclusive titles. I just expect people to want other stuff too. That seems bizarre to me, but each to their own I guess

Still haven't played GTA5 because I'm waiting on the PC version but sure, I have no self control when it comes to buying games. Excuse me for thinking the Xbox One was finally getting a game that wasn't going to be announced for PC in 6 months.

I was thinking of buying an xbox one next week, but now I guess that I won't be. Exclusive halo collection and sunset overdrive would have pushed me over the edge, but it is better to wait and see if sunset overdrive will be announced for pc at this point.

Port begging gets you banned, so i wouldn't worry about that.
Beyond that, exclusives are a malus we (as consumers) have to endure, not something we should be cheering for.

When Sony pays money to finance Bloodborne, i expect them to have it exclusive to their platform, because it's their investment and they want those money back, but i'm not *happy* that people who don't own a Playstation 4 are unable to play it.
If it were for me, it would come out in any reasonably compatible hardware in existence.

So i couldn't care less about the specter of every game for xbox potentially coming out on Windows, it's a good thing for consumers.

How well is the Bone doing? I don't keep up with console war bean counting.

I ask because if it's not doing so hot then the projected attachment rate for Microsoft-bound games could be insufficient to keep those studios in the black. That could be why Microsoft is easing up on the exclusivity.

Or maybe it's all part of a grand strategy to leverage PC somehow.

Or maybe they really are taking PC more seriously and all the talk isn't just fluff.

This might shed some light on why it's coming to PC...

Rumour has it that MS are in salvage mode with this project. Focus testing, now backed up by early reviews is painting a very negative picture of the game. Claims of repetitive, dull, lacking in polish, lacking in appeal, inconsistent, lacks direction are often heard in hushed tones when Sunset Overdrive is mentioned.

MS have distanced themselves completely from Insomniac, their only interest now is to try and recoup the money they invested into development as well as money for their contractual obligation to market the game.

It's not all one sided, Insomniac are apparently very distraught of having backed the wrong horse with the Xbox One. They were hoping for a five million seller, but with the Xbox One install base in dire straits and the market's complete rejection of the Xbox brand, well, you get the picture.

That's why Insomniac allowed Sony to use the font for their recent sale. It was a reconciliatory measure to get back in Sony's good graces, so they'd allow them to make more games after the Ratchet and Clank reboot.

It's pretty much a disaster from any perspective. Insomniac weeping, MS ruing, critical backlash, market on course to reject the IP.

It's perhaps the biggest disaster we'll see in gaming, rivalling that of ET. There will be documentaries about this game for years to come...

Honestly, I don't think this will happen until atleast 6 months post the Xbox One release. Having it release day and date on XB1/PC with zero advertising for the PC sku is not exactly a strategy for maximizing sales.

The story about a guy punching his girlfriend in the face in McDonalds is about what I'd expect from Hull.

I've been clicking random stories for at least five minutes and haven't had the ad pop up. Seems they might have pulled it already?
I'm getting ads for Australian banks

So what? If you want to play it right now, you can buy it on the X1. If you want to wait for a superior PC version on sale, you'll have to wait. What upsets you about a PC release later? No one's forcing you to do anything, what's the big deal?

Or if Sony hadn't demanding the IP in exchange for funding the game.

And what exactly is wrong with that? It honestly seems pretty shortsighted to fund the creation of a new IP and not retain the rights to it as a platform owner.

Insomniac is at the point where they want to build their company up by making their own games and retaining their IP. I don't see anything wrong with that either.

The only reason it's not on PS4 is because it was MS Insomniac signed a contract with. Had it been anyone else it would be on PS4 and Sony would have every benefit of funding it outside their cut of the software sales.

Basically I think they both made the best decisions for themselves and that's just how business goes. MS I think is a bit more questionable as they are likely to lose any rights to the IP or keep it exclusive after the first game even though they funded it's development and marketing. We'll see what happens though, if the game hits big it might move enough Xbone to make it worth it and they might have really reasonable agreement to hold onto sequels even if it blows up.
