Super Bomberman R is our opportunity to bringing Konami back with more quality games.

The mixed reception of the final price of Super Bomberman R for the Nintendo Switch has gotten in my head lately. Despite the price changing from the rumored $60 to the finalized $50, there are gaming fans and even Bomberman fans who call the price too expensive and want the price to be around $20 to $40.

We all know Konami's new direction on focusing on mobile/pachinko games and the company no longer doing AAA console game development. Since the announcement of Super Bomberman R, the game has got me to think thoroughly about the situation days later. To me, I think this a great opportunity to get Konami back to its gaming roots. I can really understand the side that says its too expensive, but I think we should consider something.

Nintendo essentially is bringing Konami back with the Switch's console/portable aspect by working closely with them, helping with the development of Super Bomberman R, and bringing the original Bomberman developers back to making games. We have seen a similar opportunity being taken with the new Momotoro Dentetsu 3DS game, with Konami licensing the IP to Nintendo. If Nintendo can maintain this good relationship with the company, we might see Konami reconsider getting back to AAA game development.

I know $50 for Super Bomberman R is asking a little too much, but I think paying that price will change Konami for the better. We could be seeing IPs like Goemon and Castlevania get new, original games if Super Bomberman R sales hit numbers that surpass Konami's expectations. Instead of negatively looking at the price Super Bomberman R is currently offering, look at it as a miraculous chance to bring back Konami from the grave.

That's all I wanted to say, I felt it needed to be said. I apologize if this is not something thread-worthy to discuss like the last thread I made.

No

I owe Konami nothing, not gonna pay out the ass for a bad bomberman game that runs poorly despite its mediocre graphics

I seriously doubt that Bomberman sales would get Konami to bring back Goemon or Castlevania. They cancelled the most promising horror title we've had in a long time and basically abandoned consoles. This release means nothing on the grand scale. Sorry to be so negative but I think this thread is way beyond wishful thinking

It's up to them to charge a price the market is willing to pay and that gets them the revenue they want. If they don't do that correctly it's on them. That's business.

Is $50 the final MSRP? I'm thinking of getting it as I don't think I've played a Bomberman game for more than 5 minutes before.
Would be interested in seeing Konami not be terrible for a change as well

Uh, aren't they just letting them publish a Switch game?

and bringing the original Bomberman developers back to making games.

I think just Konami would do that?

Did Nintendo ever have a bad relationship with them?

I am not paying 10$ game 50$. I could save/buy lots of indie games in that price and help young devolopers instead of corrupted japan gambler makers.

If it was just a matter of proving there's still money in video games, then Konami would've got the message with MGSV. Bomberman is (charitably) a longshot. The only way their properties will see any comeback is if someone else is footing the bill.

I don't care about who publishes the game. I was huge into Bomberman and I thought anything < $60 would be fine and $50 is fine.

With GCU/Prime especially which makes it $40, which I think is great.

CAN'T WAIT! I just need preorders to go up on BB.

yeah supporting hilariously overpriced games is a great way to tell them that they're doing things wrong

I might end up grabbing this since MP offerings aren't looking that great initially and the only game I'm definitely getting at launch is Zelda. Don't think I've touched a bomberman game in 17+ years but remember enjoying them.

Didn't even realize preorders weren't up. Is this game definitely coming out at launch?

Why should we support a $50 game that runs at sub-HD and 30fps when it should have no problem hitting 1080p 60fps? Also, I don't know if the people who keep touting "50 levels" have ever played a Bomberman game. Those 50 levels typically take less than 4 hours to complete.

I don't care about Konami. I do care about Hudsonsoft/Bomberman, and what I've seen of the product looks to be a game that does a decent job of honoring the SNES games. So, that is why I'm buying it.

Nintendo encouraged former Hudson devs to rejoin Konami and work on this game.

I hate Konami but I've been in love with Hudson Soft since Super Bomberman. Literally nothing will stop me from finally being able to play fully fledged new release. Especially after enduring the pain of the cancelled 3DS launch game.

All in. If there was a CE I'd get it! Crazy for Bomberman.

Sorry, I will support more interesting games and that are cheaper, like RiME or Snipperclips (which I could get both for the same price as Bomberman). Because I know I'll be able to find Bomberman in a bargain bin for 10$.

People should buy the game if it's good and it sounds like something they want.

Nobody should:

A) Buy the game just to try to force Konami to make more video games, because if Bomberman is mediocre, then the only message you're sending is "I will pay $50 for an OK game that you didn't put a strong effort into."

B) Judge the game on its price and first impressions alone. Without anyone having access to the full, finished retail product yet, we don't know how it is. Maybe it's totally worth $50.

I'm personally optimistic for the game. The Switch seems like something I could get a lot of use out of at social gatherings, and classic multiplayer Bomberman could be the perfect example of the system's strengths. But I'm also not going to commit to buying it just because I hope that Konami might one day make another Castlevania game that I want if I throw money at them.

The game looks good and I'm buying it, but nobody owes Konami anything. $50 is an outrageous price and they wouldn't even be attempting it if the game wasn't one of a mere 5 launch titles for Switch.

Yeah I'm gonna go with no. I want bomberman but $50? Even with gamers club's 20% off that's too much. Definitely will buy for ~30 in the future.

Fail first post, calling a game shitty before having the chance to play it is so immature.
Anyway I already bought 2D Bomberman games at that price before, it's no different today.
I don't believe Konami could bring back their old IP like that, not without a outside help, but I'll pre-order Super Bomberman R once it'll be listed on Amazon.fr

As much as I love Bomberman and wish for the franchise to flourish, nothing they showed during the Treehouse stream demonstrated it was worth $10 less than The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

I would be more willing to nab it launch day at $24.99 or possibly even $29.99, but not $49.99.

Buying when the "Sucker's Tax" is over with and the game drops down to a realistic price. Really looking forward to playing it and will keep an eye out for a proper sale.

I'm definitely tempted, i'm just not sure how long Zelda will take or how soon Splatoon is. If the end of one and the beginning of the other come too close together, this will have to fall by the wayside, but it certainly interests me more than Arms (but Arms, i feel, will probably surprise us much the way Splatoon did, but at the moment I'm not feeling it).

This is a new bomberman game with full campaign, co-op, online mode and boss battles. Fuck yeah I am getting it at launch.

But honestly I don't mind people saying they don't want to pay $50 for it, its their money, if they don't feel its worth it more power to them. What I don't like is people spewing bullshit about how the game is low quality, when it clearly has lots of love poured into it.

What the fuck is this shit? We don't need to beg company's by buying their overpriced games in hopes one day they'll make other games again.

Value in gaming is so funny to me. There are a few things that can affect how I perceive the value of a game, like how many hours of gameplay I can get from it, or how impressive the story/graphics are, or maybe it's just a genre or title that I enjoy.

One reason I will never buy a game is because I feel like I owe a company, or want to support a company because I like them.

I will probably buy Bomberman if I can get it for around $30 with Prime discount, or GCU or something because my wife and I love Bomberman and I'm sure we'll get plenty of hours of enjoyment from it.

How about they get former Hudson devs to get together and make a good Mario Party?

Always time for a first.

I'm excited for bomberman, but after hearing impressions that performance isn't great, I'm going to be cautious and wait for some reviews. They have plenty of time to clean it up, but I just don't expect Konami will. There's no way they'd charge $50 for it if it wasn't one of 5 launch games. It's certainly possible to have $50 worth of bomberman, I just don't trust Konami to release it. If I'm proven wrong, I'll happily give them 50 of my dollars.

The "test game" scenario again? How well did that work out back on the Wii?

Let's apply what we learned back then to this scenario:

Bomberman sells well: we get more overpriced games.

It doesn't sell well: Konami thinks no one wants this type of game.

No. If you want to send Konami a message, try and get everyone to boycott the game until it gets a big price cut, but then buy it in droves.

Switch seems like a great system for Mario Party in general if they can make a Mario Party game that isn't terrible.

The price is still $80 here in Canada ... I want to play this game, but that's a tough pill to swallow.

This pretty well represents my take. I'm all for voting with one's wallet -- I bought Gravity Rush 2 at launch, for example -- but the price has to match the content. I think SBR will see strong sales when the price is reduced. I'm in at ~$30, especially if GCU takes 20-per. off the asking price.

But on the flip side, boycotting a product because you don't like the company never gets the message that you intend across. As far as they're concerned it only proves to them they were right to stop making that product.

There won't be enough of us buying it for $50 to make a difference. And Konami has shown to be beyond arrogant regarding what gamers want.

I said it before, if they can fix the performance issues I will be there day 1, but moreso to honor Hudson and that has nothing to do with Konami.

When was it confirmed for $50? That would be a ridiculous price... $40 was already giving me second thoughts.

Also OP, doing this would send Konami the message "Oh shit people want more low effort 30fps games for $50."

Hahaha no. People don't owe Konami jack shit.

This is an immensely flawed way of reasoning. Overpaying will just cause them to overcharge you again next time.

Most anyone disuaded by a $50 price tag wasn't that interested in buying a new retail Bomberman game anyway. Besides, it's mostly a non-issue. It will likely be selling for well below that in 6+ months.
