The mixed reception of the final price of Super Bomberman R for the Nintendo Switch has gotten in my head lately. Despite the price changing from the rumored $60 to the finalized $50, there are gaming fans and even Bomberman fans who call the price too expensive and want the price to be around $20 to $40.
We all know Konami's new direction on focusing on mobile/pachinko games and the company no longer doing AAA console game development. Since the announcement of Super Bomberman R, the game has got me to think thoroughly about the situation days later. To me, I think this a great opportunity to get Konami back to its gaming roots. I can really understand the side that says its too expensive, but I think we should consider something.
Nintendo essentially is bringing Konami back with the Switch's console/portable aspect by working closely with them, helping with the development of Super Bomberman R, and bringing the original Bomberman developers back to making games. We have seen a similar opportunity being taken with the new Momotoro Dentetsu 3DS game, with Konami licensing the IP to Nintendo. If Nintendo can maintain this good relationship with the company, we might see Konami reconsider getting back to AAA game development.
I know $50 for Super Bomberman R is asking a little too much, but I think paying that price will change Konami for the better. We could be seeing IPs like Goemon and Castlevania get new, original games if Super Bomberman R sales hit numbers that surpass Konami's expectations. Instead of negatively looking at the price Super Bomberman R is currently offering, look at it as a miraculous chance to bring back Konami from the grave.
That's all I wanted to say, I felt it needed to be said. I apologize if this is not something thread-worthy to discuss like the last thread I made.
