PSA: Bomberman game series is well loved by fans, but never really received stellar reviews*

*Some exceptions, of course

Edit: Gone to Wikipedia to check, yup, my favorite Bomberman (Super Bomberman 3) only got 28/40 from Famitsu

Sounds like Mario Party, and by that I mean the reviewers just don't get it and don't know how to review it.

The Hudson curse continues, even if it's Hudson no more. Will buy.

Will probably pick this up when the price drops by ~60%.

I agree, Mario Party games are way too highly rated by reviewers.

Very funny. There's no reason why some of those Mario Parties are not rated 10/10. It's the most fun we've ever had playing video games.

Eurogamer (review next week):
Eurogamer said:
Single-player has a delightfully puzzly edge, while multiplayer is as entertaining as ever, winding the clock back to the 1993 SNES game and doing away with the mounts that were introduced in Bomberman 94 and played a part in the all-conquering Saturn Bomberman. Eight players are the maximum here as opposed to the 10 of that particular series' high point, and it'll be interesting to see how that comes together in online multiplayer - especially as Super Bomberman R is one of the only Switch games you can take online over launch weekend.

Eurogamer said:
It's not the best game you can get for the Switch's launch, and I'm not sure whether it'll stick in the memory in a year or two's time when Nintendo's console has a more substantial library. But it is, in its own way, selling a side of the Switch that's a little under-represented at launch, and I think that could just about make it worthwhile. We'll have our full review for you early next week.

Attack of the Fanboy (forthcoming)
For the price, Super Bomberman R is a tough sell. It does deliver on the promise of a return to the classic multiplayer that we all love. And the Switch is starving for content, as all newly launched systems do. If you really love Bomberman’s signature multiplayer, or if you really have to have a new Switch game, then Super Bomberman R will serve its purpose. If you want a full, content-rich experience then you’ll want to wait for something else.

Wish some posters would be a bit more honest and admit that they would buy something even if it shat on their mother's grave.

You could buy Snipperclips and Fast RMX / Shovel Knight for that price. I'm not surprised tbh.

Which is exactly what I will do tomorrow.

This sounds like a decent/average Bomberman game that will be as outdated as it is now also in 2 months when it will be 10-15 euro. Because that's how much outdated fun is worth.

Reviews seem to be pretty fair compared to what I saw about this game.

The thirst among Nintendo-only gamers is akin to living in the Sahara at times. A drop of water gets hype.

I look forward to my Switch, but I can't imagine only owning Nintendo systems for my gaming needs. I'd die of thirst.

As I said in the other thread...

It's too much to expect from Konami, but a game like this would've been far better served with quality, high-res 2D sprite work -- Like Saturn Bomberman.

They have metacritics of between 60-80. That's pretty high for bad minigame collections.

Very funny. There's no reason why some of those Mario Parties are not rated 10/10. It's the most fun we've ever had playing video games.

Opinions and all that. Saying "Reviewers don't know how to review these games" was the main reason I was mocking your post, as it's a silly thing to say. Some people just straight up don't like them and with good reason.

Lol. You act like everyone need to had some grudge on Konami here lol.

I give a crap on Konami simply because they murdered Hudson for me here. And now, they seems to be actively bringing back Hudson IP back to the spotlight. And i for sure are going to reward them here.

Stop your useless hate on seeing some people who are actually happy seeing their old favorite IP is alive in retail especially.

Sure being a Nintendo gamers only suddenly make you unable to buy any of those Nindies game which had much cheaper price that just announced yesterday lol.

What is all this trolling nowadays?

You hate Bomberman? then don't buy it. Let those who love the IP buy the game lol. There are SnipperClips and Fast RMX there for you guys to buy too if you want.

With all the good Bomberman games we already had they had to make a mediocre one from scratch.

Konami is impressive.

yeah you're right, they're the ones that are out of touch

They are. Games like Mario Party and Bomberman are reviewed using a scale that is completely irrelevant. "Fun" should be the main category and what the weight of the score is based on. They get rated things like 6/10 but no one in reality will rate it that. They either have a blast and say that was great and their experience depends on their friends, or they don't even care about games like that anyway. I'm not even sure who the audience of these reviews are supposed to be.
