Super Mario 3D All-Stars or RTX 3090? (where's Digital Foundry when you need them?!)

What are you buying at the end of September?

Hey, everyone. These two items are launching at roughly the same time, which, I think, is going to pose a real dilemma for consumers at the end of September and thru the holiday shopping season:

What if you only have enough money for *one*!?
  • Super Mario 3D All-Stars @ $59.99
  • RTX 3090 @ $1499.99
Making matters worse is that Digital Foundry have yet to do a comparison video. I don't know about you guys/girls, but I don't dare take my credit card out of my wallet without first checking in with those 3D wizards.

Anyway, I thought this would be a great place to discuss this fall's biggest decision (and that includes Election 2020). Post away and let's sort it out together.

Please note: I excluded a "buying both" option in the poll, since it's highly unlikely someone would have access to that kind of money, and I don't want joke responses polluting the data.

Super Mario 3D All Stars is on a cart. Thats more like a SSD than a 3080. And we all know SSDs make graphics better than more powerful GPUs can. So the Switch game.

This is a good point that I did not think of. And with Nvidia's SSD solution probably not materializing until 2022....

Think about it this way:
With a 3090 you can emulate all those Mario games with nicer resolution than on Switch so you are basically saving $59.99 making the 3090 just $1440.

Then consider Switch is like 80% indies and WiiU ports. Since you can emulate WiiU with a 3090 and also play pretty much every indie you are saving like $240, making it only $1200.
Add to that the $20 a year you save not having to pay to Switch online and in only 60 years you saved so much money the card was basically free.

You can keep deducting since you can play PS3, PS2, PS1, Every Sega and Nintendo consoles ever produced and every arcade ever made as well as every computer since 70's so basically you making money buying RTX 3090... not to mentioned playing over 25yrs old PC library with no need to double/triple dip for every game released. Wow looking at it this way buying RTX 3090 will save me thousand's of dollars and i'm not even joking :D

None of the above root canal is how I describe PC and mobile gaming.

I honestly can’t tell if this is a bait “digital foundry is biased” or “Nintendo charges too much for roms” thread.

Even better. 1080p is too sharp. Also, it’s 30 FPS, so we get that cinematic feel ;p
