nope...I have both...I figure this will make my non-kanji reading self make it through the ps2 version. I import alot but mainly fighters.

SRW games are pretty import friendly, play the US versions and read up on the menu commands and seishin lists and you should be ok. theres alot of faq's on the games, the closest one to OGS will be MX at this point, but if you need any help please ask in here, im sure it will be of assistance to alot of 1st time importers / players, and maybe even sway over some people on the fence on the whole thing :-D

So I picked it up today. The preorder book is 100+ pages, and the manual is 60+ pages. All full color. Mmmm. I played 2 missions so far, going on the ATX route. Really similar to the GBA version so far other than being much prettier. The lack of full voice is a little disappointing though.

Full voice was never really expected, as its never been full voice in any of the licensed games, but i suppose it would have actually been feasible to have it in a game full of originals. there is a LOT of dialog though (at least in the gba version) and i can see them not wanting to set a precident for future games WITH licenses where it would be literally impossible to have full voice, possibly for licensing reasons and partially because the va's are dead for some very popular characters.

Cleared mission 4 on the ATX path. It's good to have a non-generic lead mech now finally. It's getting more interesting, and having a super robot party member definitely helps. :lol

whats everyone else's status?

Bought a copy w/ the preorder booklet on Ebay. Its a little more than what I'd like to pay but I need to have that stupid booklet !!!

sanger is awesome :-D his plot gets pretty interesting too. wait till you meet wodan

for people new / returning after a long break to the series, you have to remember the whole game is paced like a robot show. "monster of the week"-esque introductory missions, then the plot begins to kick in, dropping hints here and there until it all explodes with last minute revelations betrayals, re-betrayals, unit upgrades and other big twists. and thats when it gets realy fun :-D

Wodan is OG2, he is in OG1 looks like. so Wodan still long way off for him.

wodan is in OG 2 and he is a ways off, but its still awesome.

i wonder when compatible kaiser shows up, he better be OG 1. Honestly OG 1 has the most pacing issues, and could really use some more unit variety in the endgame, the addition of a bunch of new characters would be absolutely ace for OG 1. i have high hopes for additional plots post-training missions.

Started playing this game today...liking it. Ofcourse not reading japanese doesn't help much but i get the drift so far.

Took the kyosuke route. Isn't the dude with the big Sword named Zengar?? or am i wrong and its actually Sangar like people are calling him? Either way hes pretty awesome. And is Wodan the dude that is Zengar/Sangar's horse in Alpha 3.

I'll be happy if there is an attack in this game that can rival Jin-Rai from SRW@3 & music that can rival Baran Dobans theme in @3

Currently on Scenario 7 defending DC.

Also...how much better is OG2 then OG1?

Fandom arrived on a name for him completely separate from the canonical one; Sanger is the proper name but English-speaking fandom uses Zengar a lot.

OG2's improvements over OG were huge in GBA, but are reduced here, running on the same engine rather than one half a decade older.

wodan is the sword of magus

you are thinking or raetsel feinshmacher (spelling)

Is this a straight remake, as in dialog is the same...Im really loving the GBA ones but the story is so intregal that Id rather not miss out on that though the new animations would be great.

Hahaha i see they changed the "official" spelling of cybuster, AGAIN

They just CANNOT make up their minds!

I don't think that's the case. The perfect file has a lot of strange spellings like Hagwane, Kulogwane, Shilogwane, Hiryukwai, etc. Even in the history of Personal Troopers at the end they managed to mangle it as Armard Module. So I think it's just a bad english checker. :P

There's like only two spellings that I go by, Psybuster or Cybuster. Psybuster is what the show spelled it as and Cybuster is what the English OG games went with (likely due to copyright is the feeling I got when I asked about it).

Cybuster is the official mech name. It's not from a show, it's a SRW staple since the SFC days. The "show" from what I'm told is when the co-contributors to SRW's Lord of Element line back then (Winkysoft) decided to go and do an anime on their own without Banpresto's knowledge. it resulted in a huge fallout and the anime has never been acknowledged.

You don't need to tell me that it was from the SFC days, I already know. =P

cant say much about parties involved but the cybuster anime series was supposed to be about the cybuster we know and love from lord of elementals, but someone pulled the rights and they ended up with a crappy anime with a robot which looks strikingly similar to the lord of wind, and a protagonist that bears the same name, however thats where the similarities end.

Cybuster has swapped between cybuster and cybaster on official merch for years, so bad engrish checkers aside, its funny that its swapped again.

is there any english in the manual? cuz that'd be rich if it had cybuster in there and cybaster in the perfect file.

play both, do the gba ones 1st then get ogs and enjoy it all over again, with new units and crazy animations.

Cybaster: God of Wind, or God of ****ing EVERYTHING?

Also, Latooni continues to be just absolutely broken, and in a good way. 3-9 range Boosted Rifle, with +115% (!) chances for critical, on a pilot with 100% hit/0% to be hit without even using Concentrate? Yes please. Playing Ryusei route or no, SRX's overhyped (compared to Alpha and the one-shot last boss) power or no, she forms the only non-battleship portion of my main strategy that didn't originate in the SRWx series.

Just by virtue of being a home console game, rather than a DS game like W, my progress in the game is rather slow (with W, I played a ton at work).

I sure am loving it, though. I`m only on mission 6, but I`m finding it dynamically a little different from past SRWs I`ve played. I really like the weapon switching ability, as well as the twin attack mode.

Has anyone else tried twin attacking yet?

Twinning up is really neat

you unlock special twin seishin, like soul however:
-twin seishin take sp from both chars, same amount from each, but they also affect both chars
-if you break twin, the effect disappears
-you lose morale by breaking twin, so choose wisely

Pairing up is pretty mean. I've been using it to pretty much one-shot all the units I've faced short of the beefy ones. Just got to Episode 8 on Ryusei's route.

Are you pairing up all your units?

Also, does twinning affect movement? For instance, if I have the leader of the twin as an A in water, but the second twin is a D in water, does it use the properties of the leader, the twin, or an average of the two?

i think you get dragged down by the one with the lowest stats.
for example, a flying unit paired with a grounded unit, would ground the flyer.
it worked that way in alpha 2-3 squads.

thid kind of thing gets important too, because it affects things like support attacks. for example a flying unit cannot support defend or attack a non-flying unit. you'd have to descend to the ground 1st for that to be available.

So I shouldnt have any trouble going through the story of the new one? If so... I will buy as I am Really really really enjoying the GBA ones.

Also what are the support attacks, I tried doing support and it wouldnt do anything.

Support attacks are when you have a unit sitting next to another unit and it joins in on the attack. this only works if the supporting unit has not yet taken its turn.

you can also support defend. this is governed by a pilot skill which can be upgraded via PP to increase the number of usages per turn (both attack and defend).

the story is more or less the same with a bunch of new stuff tacked on at the end as far as i can tell.

i guess you beat OG 1, and OG 2, then you unlock OG 2.5, which covers the OVA story and more. there should be translation faq's / story summaries up within the month, so dont worry about understanding whats going on. if you need a coupon lemme know, i'm play-asia shilling :P

I pair them up as I go in the battle so I can adapt to the situation. For example, I'll pair Rai up on the SRX route with like Aya or someone with shorter Move because he has the movement Spirit Skill (+3 to Move for the turn) to get them across screen faster.

You do get slowed down by the slower unit though so it can work against you.

i find its better to pair up strategically when needed rather than do it asap. sometimes a single unit can take down more guys, faster, than a pair, even though the pair does more damage initially.

you also have to keep in mind, are my attacks compatible on the characters im pairing.

for example, if you pair kyosuke and excellen, you have a unit that excels at mid range (2-4 distance) combat, with 1/2 specializing in close range, and the other in long. but if you pair kyosuke with saaay sanger, you have a short range powerhouse at high morale, that can take out bosses like a knife through butter.

OG1 is mostly the same, with a few tweaks to follow the anime more closely apparently, though not completely, but OG2 has new characters and a few extra scenarios that happen before OG2's first stage, starring the main originals from SRW R (Fiona!), and there are also new post-OG2 stages. So it's not completely just a graphical/unit upgrade.

thanks for the answers...I just didnt want it to stray too far...I'll pick it up when it gets a little cheaper, or at least after I finish the GBA ones.

Just a hint, right before you get to space they give you a ranzen to replace one of your planes, make sure you transfer a character over to one, because the planes suck ass in space, they have like 1-2 movement

you may also want to spend a little PP to give some of your pilots A rank in space instead of the B rank they start with, especially if they are in a unit that isnt particularly spaceworthy.

For anyone that might be interested, SRW OG, OAV and TV just got licensed at AX by Bandai Visual USA.

Edit: Someone on the Bandai Visual USA mentioned that the Games divison might bring OG PS2 to the states but said nothing was finalized. Perhaps it could happen? (yeah, right).
