Super Robot Taisen Original Generations (PS2) Official Thread of Hot Blooded Awesome

There's apparently bad blood between Atlus and Banpresto, so they're probably not bringing OG over.

The fact that a Bandai subsidiary is bringing over the TV series and OVA series is a good sign, since Banpresto is owned by Bandai.

bandai namco games would be the ones to bring it over, and a tv series license would mean voices are cast.

i'll double dip, this game is great

this ova/tv licensing news is pretty good news actually, since the game is likely to make it here if the tv series does even remotely well.

bandai visual being involved may mean no dub, and just the jp voices we alread know and love, you never know.

whats the bad blood?

i dont think there actually is any bad blood, but it was a rumor started by fairly short repsonses to message board comments on the translation, which made it appear as if their hands had been tied more than was appreciated on certain aspects of the localization. i dont think anyone cared, but they also didnt feel the need to explain thoroughly as the message boarders would have liked and this got interpreted as animosity between atlus and banpresto.

thats my take on that story anyways.

everyone buy this game, and anyone reading this at AX go ask them for it.

you think there is a good chance that this will get translated... a buddy of mine has this game and will be coming by to show it to me next week says he loves it but there is a lot of kanji.

Rawr, so status update.

I'm on Episode 25 of OG1 in Ryuusei/SRX's path. Game's been relatively easy even with the slightly gimped robots and movesets (relative to other SRWs). I've finally got a good gaggle of super robots I can use though, woohoo! They just need more Nekketsu. =|

are you playing for skill points?

Shouta said:
Buh? You mean Pilot Points or Seishin Points?
skill points are earned after completing certain optional objectives on each map.

as you keep getting skill points the games switches from Normal to Hard.

Oh, that. I've completed all but like one, maybe two of them.

lemme know when you pass mission 30, do you know the plot already?

First time I've played OG. I kind of figured where it's going though. Kind of easy to predict. =P I'll be through 30 pretty soon though. Going to start Episode 26 after some prep.

Man, I'm going so much slower than you guys. I'm only on Mission 12. :(

Don't worry, I've been playing all day since yesterday. =P

Oh, ok. I have to go to a BBQ now with my friends. If this was on DS, I could play on the train over!

DAMN YOU PS2!

Just finished Episode 30 rawr.
what's you think of the twist?
its not really the shock of it, since they do the whole faded portrait thing, but the execution, at a critical moment. it was never a matter of if, but a matter of when.

ep 34 is fun too :-D

Just about hitting Ep 13 right now. Loving it so far.

I saw it coming from a mile away.

so they did changed a bit of OG1 right?

from what ive read, OG 1 seems to be mostly small changes, and a few new units, but the story is largely unchanged. the bigger changes are to OG 2. and of course the all new OG 2.5

Finished episode 13. I was so busy trying to destroy all enemies to get the expert points that I totally forgot about the primary objective of getting to the exit point within 7 turns. Luckily the game isn't retarded, and when you destroy all enemies you automatically complete the mission too. Whew. ^^;

i think the original also made you get there in 7 turns

be careful the objective in that one was destroy all enemies, that doesnt work in mission 17, where you need to reach a certain point, destroy 6 battleships, and get EVERYONE to the point in under 8 turns (or lose the mission) all while being bombarded by infinite(? hard to tell, not enough time to kill them all) waves of grunts

this was actually a pretty tough skill point to get, the main objective was just to reach the point in 8 turns, but the point is surrounded by 6 peregrines (roughly 26000hp each), and theres some grunts out ahead. some of you may remember this mission from the GBA version. its still hard, although my upgrade pattern allowed me to complete it this time.

anyways if you kill enough grunts, more spawn, every time, so you really just need to focus on making a path for your battleship, so it can get there in about 6-7 turns, unobstructed, as it moves rather slow. then you have the circle of peregrines to deal with. clever use of support attacks and the new twin system will whittle them away quick enough to take them out within the time limit.

My game arrived today, so i can offer more detailed impressions now!

-Loading is next to none, 1-2 seconds for animations soaked in a transition with music starting etc so its seemless.
-animations are really awesome
-you can access the seishin menus from inside the battleship so your refuling guys can still do something.
-lots of neat visual touches on the interface etc
-new seishin sets and starting skills make things interesting
-twin battle system is awesome fun to mess with, and makes several difficult bosses more fun
-many bosses have revised status effect immunities so no more draining the r-gun rivale of all its EN then unloading.
many seishin/spirit have been relegated to "twin" only, like soul for example, but this also makes them available earlier on......
-the game seems mostly the same for now, and im enjoying the hell out of it for the 2nd time. there a ton of battle voice variations and excellen steals lines from other anime and other srw OG chars depending on her mech and attacks :-D

Would anyone be interested in a listing of the skill points for the kyosuke route?

The sub unit only inflicts 65% damage though. Twin-ning trades the remaining 35% for the twin bonus(es) and twin seishins. Great for fulfilling 'defeat x before it retreats at xx% health'. Also makes strategies interesting.

also makes for a slightly more powerful grunt killer to send into a wave of enemies alone. Does that extra damage you couldnt have done on your own to killem in 1 "hit".

So after sitting on my laurels a bit, I finally finished OG1. I was hoping the game was a bit harder but oh well.

I finished the
Episode 42 boss
in one turn (after getting to him). :lol

well arent you supposed to kill bosses in 1 turn anyway?

I know in OG2 you have to kill them in 1 turn otherwise... hell.

No, you don't have to kill the bosses in one turn. It just gets annoying for some of them. Some of them run away if you don't kill them in one swoop (i.e. the % below skill points) but you usually don't have to. But seriously, dropping over 250,000 damage in one turn is pretty devilish. =o

Edit: Or however much the last boss has. All I know is I whomped it in one turn!

get used to it, seriously not going to spoil anything but if OG2 is anything to go by (in hard mode at least).... you'll see >:P

Better be harder than OG1. =p

Oh and SRX = Monster. I can't believe how powerful it is. :lol

Ryusei's OG1 stage 19: Still the best SRW stage ever, has been since it was the end of SRW2, even though they finally fixed shooting through walls after 18 years and I've broken Latooni so hard that neither of the bosses can hit her, even if they catch up to her 10-range post-move sniper rifle of ****ing awesome.

Also, between Valcion, Dark Prison, and Armageddon, this stage has the best BGM. Only one besides maaaybe α2 final where I cut back to map BGM.

Not sure if anyone cares, but the Perfect File is $9.99 on yesasia. Its nice for people like me that adored the GBA games but don't have the capability to play import PS2 games. :D

Started OG2 with my Clear Data from OG1. Nice to see my money carried over. I wonder what else does. @_@

I`m right behind you! I just finished OG1 38 this morning, and I`m probably gonna finish 39 and MAYBE 40 tonight. I`ll spend tomorrow doing 41 and then starting OG2.

I hope I can make use of the insanely broken SRX in OG2. :lol

Answer is "nothing else".

Nuuuu, wanted some broken stuff in there!

Anyway, started OG2 and there were 5 missions that they added to the start of the game that weren't in the GBA version (was checking the guides for something). That's pretty crazy har. Makes me wonder how many more missions they've added in total =o

Finally finished upgrading it :-D

mwahahaha Katina's red death machine.

Alright, so I'm on mission 5 of OG2 and...it's COMPLETELY different from OG2 GBA. The first 5 missions in the PS2 version are ALL new. Mission 6 is the first mission of the GBA version. Looks like all the new units, changes and so on made to the PS2 version are all in OG2.

New units like Compatible Kaiser and such are all in OG2. This is a real surprise for me, especially after realizing that OG1 PS2 was essentially the same as the GBA version. O_O

bah, beaten by Shouta, but still surprising to me
