Nintendo Switch has sold 79.87 million units worldwide as of December 31, 2020, Nintendo announced in its latest earnings release.

A total of 11.57 million Switch hardware and 75.85 million software were sold during the three months ended December 31.

Nintendo altered its previously announced forecast that it will sell 24 million Switch units between April 2020 and March 2021 to 26.5 million units.

That's quite a number. Switch has now officially passed 3DS in total sales. By next update, it should have safely passed 82 million, meaning it has outsold PSP and GBA. It might have reached that already.

It's very likely Nintendo will break the record for annual operating profits.
With just 3 quarters it's already very close to beat the peak of the Wii/DS era.

Top 5 highest operating profits recorded by any console manufacturer (company or console division in the case of mega corporations) until now:

Nintendo, FY ending March 2009: 555.26 Bn yen
Nintendo, FY ending March 2021: 521.11 Bn yen (miss the 4th quarter which will be profitable for sure even if less so than Q3)
Nintendo, FY ending March 2008: 487.22 Bn yen
Nintendo, FY ending March 2010: 356.57 Bn yen
Nintendo, FY ending March 2020: 352.37 Bn yen

Launch aligned (by quarter) NSW is more than 12M units ahead of the PS4.

Jesus.

Each time I hear some of these milestones I am taken aback.

In no time it'll be at 100 million, I'm sure.

Really happy to see Nintendo achieve the success they've always deserved.

I cannot wait for the true Switch successor. The games on that thing will be a sight to behold, I can't wait.

There are some titles missing I think, Xeno 2 for example had passed 2 mil in December 19.

That’s truly incredible. In a world where we have massive techno upgrades, something that is relatively antiquated in the gaming sector is blitzing the far superior competition.

Whilst that list is impressive for Nintendo it must scare off 3rd party developers. There's only one game I can spot not made by Nintendo! Surely that's not the full list as I'd imagine something like dragon quest being on there?

Nintendo only publishes their own games sales. All the games in the list are published by Nintendo. That is why Hyrule Warriors is only counted for outside of Japan, as Bandai-Namco published that in Japan.

That list is 1st party published titles.

Games like Mario Rabbids, FIFA, Just Dance, Witcher 3, and etc already surpassed 1 million mark.

Switch is selling faster than the PS4.
No surprise

Who would be buying a PS4 this late in the gen?

Regardles, excellent numbers.

Hoping for a Switch Pro next year

The numbers are straight insane.

Absolut incredible quarter. Even tho all the pople on ERA and some here were still expecting 12m units sold in a holiday quarter.
That's just not happening.
Won't happen next year either.

These are launch aligned , current ps4 sales don't factor,
as far as who would buy a ps4 today, I'd say sensible people that want an affordable available console with a huge low cost library?

Switch is selling faster than the PS4.
They didn’t launch at the timeframe so this comparison is always tricky.

9 months and 12 days vs 3 years and 2 months

AC' sales have slowed down significantly, which is normal considering the absurdly high sales it did the first months.
It only sold 1 million more than Mario Kart last quarter and this will keep on decreasing.

Both are doing exceptionally well !
