Sonic is bad because of the stupid takes Sega used to go with Sonic(guns, story book shit, cyc, Infinte bullcrap, etc) and create a way too diversed fanbase, where every obsucre game is deemed as good by some fan or another. No wonder Sonic fanbase got that bad reputation, that banned guy was a prime example of a twisted fanboy who can't handle that Adventure wasn't a deal and neither a mark in the history of games.
guns was a gameplay gimmick unrelated with the story, the storybook games were genuinly well written with a good incorporation of darker themes, morals, and great characterization, (wich can't be said for the game itself), and infinite was a very lackluster attempt at pandering to adventure fans from a writting team that didn't know what they were doing because surprise, pontac & graff never played a sonic game before and don't know what the fans like. idk what "cyc" means tbh.

as bad as the fanbase can get with some of the games, i think the hatedom as shown by this and my other threads can get just as bad, if not worse than the fanbase. and sure Adventure wasn't perfect but i think it was a good game, and i think it's very overhated, if anything i only picked adventure as better than SM64 simply to make the mario fanboys salty.

It's not a gimmick. It was a pathetic attempt to make Shadow gameplay even more edgy than the character itself, the same with riding cars and bikes. The very start of the game tells me enought what they were thinking.
Storybooks are nothing but already know stories with Sonic characters replaced with the original ones. Theres nothing "genuinly" written in them, the only difference is that they put Sonic in there as a supreme being(to the point of giving others life lessons) and being vanlgoried by the other main character as some kind of god.

You are, just like that other guy, proving my point. We reach a point where your reason to pick Adventure is in spite of SM64 fans, and if anything deviates from it call them a hatedom or a troll in my case.

technically it is, because a they got a letter from a kid wanting sonic to have a gun, sega didn't like the idea for sonic to have a gun so they gave it to shadow because he was the angsty antihero, technically there's plenty of twists to the original stories, the life lessons were part of what made the stories so good as it makes sonic's character shine, sonic himself had good characterization being a carefree hero who does what he thinks is right. he may be a jerk with lots of 'tude but he's still a hero nonetheless.

if anything i also preffer SM64 over adventure but like i said im tired of SA1 and most of the 2000's sonic games getting too much hate, i never really called anyone a troll but i think classic sonic elitists and "sonic was never good" morons are incredibly annoying, afterall it's just an opinion you may not like the story or the gameplay in the 3D games but i think Shadow is a well written character with good development and a good redemption arc, i think characters like Silver or Blaze or the Chaotix are very likable and i think SA1, 2, Heroes, Secret RIngs, Black Knight, Unleashed have well written plots than most people give them credit for and certainly better done than most of the newer stories like colors, generations and specially forces, where sonic was an annoying tryhard comedian, tails was completely useless and so on and the plots don't really make me care for anyone or anything, they boiled it down to flanderized 1-dimentional characters and barely any consistence and the deadly six are great examples, going from cool ideas like a vengefull god, a misunderstood rival who was mistaken into trying to destroy humanity, a robot who rebeled against his creator, an abusive genie boyfriend who only wants ultimate power, a corrupt knight and a magician who wants to re-shape the universe for inmortality, to bootleg Bowser & the Koopalings or Deviantart Mcgee, even the main bad guy, Eggman himself was an interesting idea on his own, being a mad scientist that turns animals into robots and wants to take over the world.

Sonic character to shine? Dude, he is already the main character of his own series. Isn't there enought spotlight for him already lol? Nah, let's make the side character basicaly worship him. I won't even comment on the Shadow, since is the same case with cyc. Btw, it means Create-your-character.
At this point is better for me to move on. I already said my piece.

because sonic never really had any development, he was always the "cool hero with attitude" but nothing else even in the well written games, forces might be poorly written but the whole create-your-character is an interesting idea from gameplay standpoint and also gives a decent message that anyone can be a hero, if anything, i think i would like to see more of that maybe in a Dragon Ball Xenoverse kind of deal or something like that.

I think a serious tone can be done for Sonic, it just has to be do e well and not like 06.

I see some people here arguing stereotypes like old school and new school fans but there are people who grew up with the Genesis who liked what came out on Dreamcast and later. There are people who just discovered the hedgehog this year that like the old games too.

Personally I'm an old fan from the Genesis days and I like 3D games just as much as the originals. Just like 3D, 2D had lots of trash too.

Sonic fans will come forward and say he’s incredible but we’ve seen animal like characters before (banjo, crash etc.) the difference is sonic 1-3 are really good and they games went down after that.

Sonic came out before Banjo and Crash (Sonic came out in 1991, Crash came out in 1996, Banjo came out in 1998), and i know it's down to opinions but a lot of games after the genesis were pretty good even with their flaws, Adventure 1 & 2, Advance 1-3, Heroes, Unleashed, Colors, Generations, Mania.

wrong, Sonic was meant to be cool and edgy compared to Mario, wich unlike Sonic was designed to be lighthearted and fun.
also kids and "disabled" people love the "serious" stuff, idk where your from.
Only edgy to Americans, Sonic's seen more cuter in Europe and Japan. (I'm from the UK by the way, and have played Sonic for nearly 30 years).

You don't speak for Kids or Disabled people either, so I don't know where you are coming from either. :p

This is typically the kind of stuff you read on the internet from people who have no clue about the franchise and repeat stuff they read elsewhere, feeding the global ignorance.

Sonic was made with an american audience in mind, while still respecting Japanese sensibilities, they made him even edgier in the US because he was still cutesy, but im pretty sure that even in the US he was meant to be more appealing to Teens, with stuff like the ads or how much of a jerk he was in the Fleetway comics.

You do know that Hedgehogs are native to Europe, right? Sonic was created for a Worldwide Audience to compete with Nintendo as Alex Kidd wasn't cutting it.

If you mean the Adverts where they mocked Nintendo profusely, that was SEGA's general Campaign. Being Edgy doesn't mean he has to be more serious.

SEGA are on the right track of making him light hearted but also different to Mario with an attitude, but he's not what you would say for a mature audience as his key appeal is for kids.

yes, Sonic is the mascot, the face of SEGA, wich was meant to be edgier compared to Nintendo, sure Hedgehogs are native to europe, but SEGA's marketing strategy at the time was targeting to American teens, many people working on SEGA at the time, Yuji Naka, Naoto Oshima, Tom Kalinske all said that was their intended audience for Sonic.

times change and during the Dreamcast era, SEGA wanted to do more ambicious things with the series, Sonic Adventure was originally an RPG for the Saturn to compete against Square and Nintendo's Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Sonic World from the Sonic Jam collection on Saturn was bassicly a prototype of that concept, but the cancellation of Sonic X-Treme caused them to turn it into a platformer, inr esult we got something that at the time was pretty unique for a mascot platformer, as pretty much every Mascot platformer at the time like Super Mario 64, Crash Bandicoot or Banjo-Kazooie had lighthearted and fun stories, so bassicly seeing Sonic go full on serious shonen anime was very appealing to the new audience who was growing up with americanized Anime and gritty superhero shows trying to be Anime, wich was especially succesful, ironically, when SEGA stopped making consoles and started putting their games on Nintendo platforms, so more kids got exposed to it via getting SA1DX, SA2:Battle, or Sonic Heroes on Gamecube and watching Sonic X on the Saturday Morning FoxBox alongside YuGiOh! and Pokemon and whatnot.
