Bundle:
http://tog.namco-ch.net
Release Date: 12/10/2009
Genre: "Understand the Power to Protect RPG"
- Developed by Tales Studio (Team Destiny)
- Uses the Style Shift Linear Motion Battle System, which lets characters have more than one fighting style. You can set skills to the A and B button on the Wii remote.
-New system known as the "Around Step" allows movement in a 360 degree angle around the enemy and other maneuvers.
-Uses the Chain Capacity (CC) system, first used in the Tales of Destiny remake for the PS2.
- Also uses the Blast Calibur (similar to Mystic Artes), from Tales of Destiny PS2.
- Uses Titles to learn skills. Titles have passive abilities that can only be used when the Title is equipped, or ones that can be mastered and used, even when you change that character's title. Each has certain number of skills you can learn, from passive abilities, to artes and magic, to stat boosts. Through battles you gain SP. By getting SP, you can master the skill the Title has, and use them even when you equip another Title.
-Uses the Arles Pot, which is an item creation system based on the Food Sack system used in Tales of Destiny PS2. You can prioritize which items the pot will make, and it will make them, at the cost of a certain amount of energy. It doesn't just make food, you can also make things like Gels.
- Includes a minigame that you download to your DS, Kamenin Merchant (Turtlemen Merchant). It's an action game in which you control a Turtleman and have to stock items, and up to four people can play through a wireless connection.
-Compatible with the Classic Controller Pro.
-Animation scenes done by Production I.G. like always
-Staff: Hideo Baba (Producer), Inomata Mutsumi (Character Designer), Kazuya Ishizuka (Director), Kazuhisa Oomi (Director), Shinichiro Okamoto (R&D Producer)

However, Asbel strongly holds thoughts of becoming a knight. After a certain event, he decided to enter into the Knight Training Academy in the capital, where he spent his life earnestly devoted to his training and soon accomplished his growth into a diligent and polite young swordsman. Official press release for the ToV movie. It confirms that the movie is based on events that take place before the game. It also mentions that the director Kanta Kamei also directed the anime FMVs for ToL and worked on the FMVs for many of the Tales games. The script is written by Reiko Yoshida. The animation character designer and animation director is Tokuyuki Matsutake. He's the animation director for most of the FMVs in Tales games, including ToV. The movie will be the first Tales anime theatrical feature, and will be animated in full HD. The movie will be produced by Production IG.

No, none of these have been confirmed for English releases yet.

Yeah I dunno if we really need a new thread either. I mean it's not like there's anything on those sites yet. Maybe you could use update the OP later on today when the news sites have full coverage on the press conference? I'll change the title then...

That's somce nice music for Graces.
Vs. is a bit--no, actually, a lot more "epic" than what I'd expect. I'm hoping for less of that kind of thing and more remixes of existing battle themes, but maybe that's just a menu theme.

They sure are a bunch of lazy asses putting up those teaser sites. They made the Wii one, copied the code for Tales of Versus and didn't even bother changing Wii references in keyword and description, just Graces for Versus :lol

This one's battle system is "Style Shift". Basically instead of being able to fight in one particular style, you're able to switch between two. He did some stuff like that in the trailer I guess. Like you can set skill of one style to the A button and the skill of the other style to the B button.

You can also sidestep around the enemy and stuff now.

It's compatible with the Classic Controller Pro (never even heard of this) too.

Looks kinda ugly graphically. Though Symphonia Wii had some ugly shots when it first got shown and then it started looking a bit better, so hopefully it happens again. :p

The pro?? why not the old one too?? is having extra shoulder buttons that important?
Not the fact that it won't get released in the US too :/

Funny, since people of GAF raved about Tales of Vesperia and Tales of Hearts which came months later was equally awesome - both games had a development span of over 2 years. Generally for me, I just ignore the spin-offs, ports and cheap remakes (like ToP FVE) and focus more on the Tales done by Tales studio. In truth, the major Tales games from Tales studio are the ones really worth anybody's time.

Though Tales of Versus could turn into something nice if done well like Dissidia.

Maybe it's using the Abyss engine again. That always looks kinda ugly in early stills.

Anyway, need to hear more before I can gauge whether I like the battle system but side-stepping is a nice feature. Style changing could be hit or miss.

I think style changing could be really interesting. It basically allows for 8 skills equipped instead of 4. So let's say you want to play the mage character. Currently in Tales the hold back is that you generally want to equip mostly spells on the skill slots instead of the physical attacks or whatever. Now you can equip 4 spells and 4 physical weapon attacks. In theory it should make characters more useful in general.

Quick translation on TO-VS:

The game will use the LMBS like previous games in the series. There will be various new action elements like walls, etc. Like in normal Tales games you have normal attacks and you equip skills. You gain Grade Points from battles and use them to customize the stats of your characters. Blahblahblah Original story mode Yggdrasil Battle Mode blahblahblah minigames crossover mobile contents blahblahblah go to hell Namco. Etc.

Also the game will feature brand new animation scenes from Production IG as well, and illustrations for all characters and cut-in portraits, etc.

Edit: Oh yeah it says the main scenario will be fully voiced too. I missed that because once I saw "story" my brain exploded. :/

More ToV info. You can see the designs for the ToV movie too. They mention that aside from the new playable character, the main scenario of ToV for PS3 will be fully voiced now because they have the space. They also mention some sort of tie-in content between the ToV movie and the PS3 version of ToV, but did not go into details.

Yeah, there ARE many Tales games, but if people would just stop complaining/bashing and instead realize that some titles are quite great and are worth buying we would have less "lolz, Tales sucks" posts.
It's not even like gamers outside Japan get that much Tales games anyway, and most of the ones that get released here are not bash-worty at all (or isn't ToV great anymore because of the new anouncements?).
Even the spin-offs and handheld games are at least (above) average- with another name and published by Atlus people here would probably like 'em...

Just wanted to point that out, not directed at the posts up until now ^^

I hope there are some official screens of tales of versperia and tales of vs.

Tales of graces looks good.

Tales of VS looks really good, I like the style of the visuals. And I'm glad Vesperia PS3 will be fully voiced (kind of irked me how the 360 had some nice scenes with no voice).

Yeah, I'm going to echo this sentiment. There are only 2 games in the series I feel are excellent while all the others I've played (haven't touched Tales of the Hearts) have been mediocre of just plain bad (I'm looking at you Legendia).

If this releases in 2010 that would mean a whole year with not one (new) mainline Tales game. Amazing. :lol

Magicpaint said:
As in...no overworld?

Yep.

Field, Dungeons, and Towns. You'll apparently freely travel between the three.

No overworld like previous games.

duckroll said:
I wonder if by "seamless" they mean the game will be like ToH...

Noooooo. :(

Or at least have more variety than ToH did or something.

In addition to being fully voiced, ToV PS3's going to have new story and side-story scenes, and some "new elements". Seems like a trailer's going to be up on PSN and the site soon too.

Looking at ToS PS2, I'm pretty sure "new elements" just means more costumes, some new skills/artes, each party member now has two Mystic Artes, and a new boss or two.

It looks like your average port really. :p

Sweet!

Yeah, basically. ToH's field maps were really bland and a sour point for the game's overall aesthetics.

Nice to have another gunner in the series. Iria and Ricardo were a lot of fun to play as so I imagine that the Pirate girl will be as well. But I fear she might be another obnoxious brat.

That new character's design is a crime against man, but I'm not gonna pretend for a second that I won't snap up the PS3 version of Vesperia the second it comes out here (although I don't think I'm up for getting Vesperia Master again). I hope they do a good job porting it and it doesn't lose any of the graphical polish. One of the nicest things about the original is just how immaculate the image was; you had to get pretty fuckin' close just to see aliasing.

Fully voiced? Wasn't the original ToV voiced slightly more than half-voiced? I wonder if that's a good thing localization-wise...

Unless they already dubbed all the main scenario one year ago and now they're just using the material.

a rpg is never fully voiced. That would mean every NPC had VA also.

Looking again at the battle screenies for ToG...I'm seeing Abyss-ish monsters... AGAIN. Why in the world do they keep reusing these monsters? It's not like Abyss had great monsters to begin with (thought the 2D games and ToS had superior monsters).
