Team Fortress 2 is now free to play forever

Well, at least I managed to get in 450 paid hours for my $20.

Probably the second most i've ever gotten out of a game next to WoW.

I can't believe there's still people that don't own TF2. It's average price over the last year has been what, a couple bucks?

I got it for what I think was like 99p back during the 09 Orange Box sale

I kind of now feel cheated for buying The Orange Box. Way to go Valve.

You've had the opportunity to play this amazing game for 4 years.

I feel pity/happiness for these people that are just now going to decide to play this. :)

it's a four year old multiplayer valve game

That doesn't mean shit. My laptop's intergrated graphics card won't render water unless I'm EXTREMELY close, for instance.

might try it out

still looks rather shitty from all the gameplay videos I have seen so I don't see myself playing it for more than a few hours

Damn, if I'd just held out a few more years.

Seriously though, it's not surprising, but it's an interesting development. I love how fast and loose they seem to be handling the game.

So what happened to charging for the game being a preventative measure against hackers and/or idiots? IP-based server bans incoming :lol

Pfffffffft F2P titles are always low quality compared to paid titles!!
Team Fortress 2 has been shit since the Mann.Conomy update, but I still play it and whine.

Signed. Random SPUF user.

If they're smart they'll allow servers to flag if they allow free players in.

You know what's awesome?

I've wanted this game for a long time and my friends on Steam always seem shocked that I haven't bought it. I still get game invites from several of my groups and even my own friends who KNOW I don't own the game.

And it was kind of worth it. It's free and the class updates are almost all finished. Sounds good to me.

Yeef to ban us free peasants, confirmed?

I've always wanted to play this game (and probably will, now that it's free), but the longer I wait, the higher the barrier to entry seems to be. I feel as though I will be completely lost and confused when I first boot up TF2.

I browsed the "Uber Update" thread, for example, and was stunned to see all the new weapons released solely in this single update. They all have damage modifiers, crit modifiers, mobility restrictions, and so on an so forth, and that's not even including weapons released in previous updates. Also, there's the whole deal with item crafting (I seriously have no idea what this is or how you do it) and crates (likewise). I would have absolutely no idea where to begin or know which weapon/item combinations are the most useful.

The things that originally attracted me to TF2 were the artstyle and apparent simplicity, the latter of which seems to have been lost in the years since its release. It's fantastic for fans looking for new ways to play the game, but no-so-great for people like me now intimidated by the vast amounts of weapons and items added to the player inventory.

Well, I got Portal to play at about 15-25 FPS, or around that. We'll see how it goes.
You'll be fine if you get a high FPS config. Will look kinda bad, but it's worth it. JOIN US, JOIN US.

I don't care at all about the looks. If you could point me in the direction of a high FPS config, I'd appreciate it.

This is a great idea. All of the people that normally would have bought tf2 have long since bought it, now this will bring in even more players and potential money from the in-game store. I do feel bad though for people just now playing. It'll take months to get all of the weapons even with trading.

There is a Training and a Couching system, and there will probably be more stuff coming considering its gonna recieve the biggest new player rush now that its free.

Its not too late at all.

Aww, Valve wants me to like them even more

<3

This is seriously awesome even though I'm not much of a TF2 player
