Not projecting. I'm not even sold on Series X. I'm getting PS5 Day One.
why are you „Day One Sold“ on PS5, but not on Xbox series X? It can’t be the games, because there is nothing announced for PS5, except godfall, which is going to be awful, and can’t be really a reason to get the console day one. Xbox Series X has at least halo infinite and forza 8 for launch.

I want Sony Santa Monica's next game and Naughty Dogs Next game and Insomniacs next game, and Guerillas Next Game, and Kojima's Next Game, and Bluepoints Next Game, And Sucker Punch's Next Game and Persona 6, and Bloodborne 2 could be exclusive again. and I want to see all the games those studios released this Gen running at higher frame rates on PS5.

So, you want those games, without seeing anything about those games? What if they are complete utter shit? We don’t know anything about those games, how do you know?
also, who says that anything of this is going to be released on launch day? I don’t think anything of this is actually going to be released on launch day of PS5. I would say 2022 is the earliest when you can see anything of those.
this was the Case for PS4 at least, the first couple of years we only had indie games. Lol

Also, no one said that ps4 games are going to run/look better on PS5. Maybe they will look and run exactly the same. Who knows? You don’t for sure.

this is what I don’t get about Sony Fans. How can you be so blind? So irrational? It doesn’t make any sense at all. This is just pure wishful thinking and fanboyism.

Just accept that a lot of people have more fait in Sony’s output then Microsoft’s output. We know already what kind of games we can expect from them, and we know those studios are all quality.

I personally see no reason to switch eco system, And Microsoft makes it all easier to never have to buy their console again. Pc+PS is the best combo for me. The fact the Microsoft need to change their shit every generation means the whole Xbox department is not (yet) stable. I mean the PS5 was already a no brainer for me before the PS4 was launched 😉. You can say the same thing about cars and smartphones. I always have had iPhone and i have a lot of reasons why.

For those old enough to remember the Xbox 360 was cutting edge tech and about 6 months ahead of PC GPU's when it launched (and at a reasonable price) so some of the seemingly high numbers being thrown around are not out of the realm of possibility.
I've heard this before and I didn't buy it then and don't buy it now. The 360 and PS3 when they came out were impressive, but they weren't beating out the PC. PC games were still running and looking better than anything the PC had to offer.

It's simple dude. Sony has a much better track record when it comes to high quality first party games than MS does. Especially in the last 10 years. You may not agree, but many will agree.

So far all I have seen from Microsoft is a lot of talk with a large megaphone. That is literally all I have seen. I still remain skeptical about Gamepass and what the long term implications are. For me it is far more irrational and fanboyish to put faith in MS than in Sony, especially and this is perhaps the most important point: Sony hasn't even officially revealed the PS5 and/or the launch games associated with it and therefore still have ALL THEIR CARDS. MS simply does not have the track record to justify any sort of blind faith. That's not just in the Xbox division, that's their entire company history. If MS can deliver the goods, I will embrace them as the market leader.

If I had a gun to my head and was forced to choose between XSX and PS5 TODAY, I would choose a PS5 because at this point I trust the brand better. Could that change? Absolutely. But MS will have to convince me.

However, I plan to own both consoles.

12gb and 8gb...?

I believe there is fire with the specs, for sure. And I will say that this all falls in line with what I think will happen (and mean that in most cases it won’t give a huge difference between versions). While x is 12tf, there is more to overall grunt than just one thing, and the PS5 has a decent jump in raw GPU power. Not enough to bridge the gap there, not at all. But the small gap on power isn’t really big enough to make huge waves of all the above is to be believed. MS will still have the power crown, but it won’t exactly be a huge deal.

But 8gb...?

Nah. That’s BS. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the final consoles at 12-16gb. With 12 more likely.

What this will all boil down to is price. If the PS5 really can come in at $100 less then, adios MS.

It's GDDR6

My only problem with this whole 9.2TF vs 12TF is the fact that the theoretical Microsoft GPU is way better than all the current RDNA offerings, the 5700 XT alone is a 400 dollars GPU and it's less powerful than the supposed Series X one, so either Microsoft is going to price the Series X at a minimum $600 dollars and basically commit suicide (remember the whole 599 US dollars thing about the PS3, and the fact that they started to sell PS3s after the price drops) or they are going to lose a lot of money with every console they sell, right now Sony has the install base advantage and with the PS5 apparently being BC with PS4 games I doubt a lot of these people are going to migrate to xbox and lose all the games they already bought, but we'll see what happens I'm going to eventually buy both or just decide to upgrade my PC if most of the Series X exclusives end up releasing in there.
While I tend to agree that 600$ is a lot for a console, if it offers tangible benefits many could decide to just bite the bullet...600$for a similar console wouldn't make sense, so it really depends on the power gap, and how it plays out in the real world.

Also, people make more money than they did back in 2006. (Apparently $399 would be around $500 of today's dollars)... Still if one console is 400, and the other is 600 they better have something to show for it.

meaningless argument is meaningless.

IMO Sony first party games are almost all perfect examples of bad gamedesign and style over substance mentality.

the only good exclusives Sony published within the last decade were all contract works with third party developers. (Bloodborne, Ratchet & Clank, Spider-Man etc.)
the only actually good games made by in house Studios of Sony were in my opinion The Last Guardian and Gravity Rush.

if it wasn't for other japanese devs releasing exclusives on PS4 or having exclusivity contracts (Ni-Oh) it would be a useless console for me at this point.

Seems like TechPowered Up downscaled the XSX specs to 11.3. Assuming it's a 56 CU GPU by default and retail unit will have 4 disabled.

Dunno what to think about that; if that holds true for PS5 as well, and the 36 CU listed in that leak was with all the CUs active, they could logically disable four of them to and now that's just 32 CUs, which is just too low and doesn't even make sense considering PS4/Pro back-compat.

I still think the listings for both were with 4 CUs already disabled, or maybe (just maybe) XSX's was with those four active but Oberon's was with 4 disabled. On paper that'd bring them closer together in terms of TFLOPs.

You can think that all you want. But the sales and critical reception of Sony games tell a far different story and definitely suggest you are very much in the minority.

If it makes you feel I have minority opinions.
For example, I happen to not like most Japanese developed games. Aside from those made by From Software and Nintendo, I don't play them all that much. I pretty much haven't liked a single game put out by Platinum Games. The style just doesn't do it for me. But I'd be foolish to not recognize their importance and that the majority of gamers are fan of japanese studios and they have an impact.

This has to be bait but, Yeah! I want those games without seeing them! Because I know those are amazing studios that make great games that I love and I am going to want to play their future work. I DON'T NEED THEM ON LAUNCH DAY. The point is I know they're coming so thats the platform I'm gonna need to have to play them on. WTF! This isn't rocket science guy.
Sony has already demonstrated that spiderman can run so much faster on PS5. Why wouldn't they lift the framerates for their games. It's a certainty that they will.

I'm not rooting for MS to fail but I don't for the life of me understand what they have done to earn brand loyalty.

How come we get all this info, and with such accuracy, and no mention about Raytracing? All I want to know, is how well they do Raytracing!

The longer Sony is quiet about the PS5 specs the more I think the console is underpowered and they are trying to figure out a way to spin it. 9.2tf could very well be true and would be sad for both xbox and PC gamers as the PS5 would hold everything back.

PS2 was a big bag of bollocks tech wise compared to the Xbox and Cube, hell even the Dreamcast gave it a good run. I’m talking massive gains on Xbox over PS2.

And we all know how that turned out, I mean, Xbox totally stomped PS2 in to the ground and it barely sold.

There’s more to life than specs on a piece of paper. For example, I got a shit load of games for Christmas, and the one I’ve been playing more than anything?

Luigis Mansion 3.

Agreed. Can’t wait to see what 12 TF brings to the stellar lineup of Xbox. Hopefully we get more multiple iterations of Halo, Gears, and Forza come next gen.

All of those franchises had enough entries and should be retired, a game shouldn't go past max 5 IMO.
There's only so much you can do until it's no longer new/refreshing, they need more new IP's and everything else instead of keep relying on the above mentioned.
Sounds doom and gloom maybe, but those IP's don't interest everyone, as a upcoming buyer I'd like more variety - especially fantasy / Japanese titles.

Maybe I'm thinking of the OG Xbox graphics card that had certain features before they were on PC graphics cards.

The original Xbox had some interesting proprietary tech that gave it better rendering of certain things than even PC. Splinter Cell is one such game that I believe maximized that tech and one of the reasons why Pandora Tomorrow is no longer available on PC.

It's also a reason that I believe there has never been a successful OG Xbox emulator.

To be fair, having Obsidian should drastically improve MS 1st party output.
Based on their track record, I personally feel they alone with proper support and a budget will turn around Microsoft's entire first party operation and make it easily match Sony's.

Obsidian is one of the best devs of all time imo. Their storytelling, skill at designing game systems and creativity put them way up there with the most elite devs.

That's hoping for a bit too much. Obsidian can only put out one game per 2-4 years, maybe two if the studio gets two teams.

One studio can't match Sony's multiple studios. But yes, Obsidian is a great pickup and love to see what they can accomplish.

However, I have also seen what happens when creative types held back by budget get access to lots of money and they end up not being able to produce anything because their perfectionist gets in the way.

The Xbox (2001) NV2A GPU had dual vertex shaders that weren't introduced to the PC space until the next year with the Geforce 4.

The 360 Xenos GPU had a unified shading architecture that wasn't introduced to Radeon until 2007 and Nvidia 2006.

Correct, Xenos (X360 GPU) was the very first GPU with unified shaders, as oppose to split Vertex/Pixel shaders. A year later NV introduced GTX8x00 series with their own unified shaders solution, and when the PS3 arrived at the same time it was based on outdated architecture basically.

FF is different IMO due to the nature of the game, whole new cast, world while the others are bare minimum.
You're right, but I'm of opinion that gets a pass as it's FF7R and maybe FF17 if it's their next-gen MMO (mainline FF doesn't interest me).

It will be shared, but don't worry. PS5 in comparison has 250 times more memory than the PS2. This is massive. You will see the highest quality pixels ever visualized on a screen.

That's pretty great but I wonder how much of an improvement there will be vs ps4's.

Techpowerup has been wrong several times just in what I've personally seen and submitted corrections for (they didn't know how to calculate Intel GPU flops years ago (8 ALUs to an EU, Intel kinda does themselves no favors when people compare EUs to shaders!), and they still have the wrong (double) numbers for the Wii U GPU shaders and Gflops)

I'd take it these are placeholders. From my emails to "them" it's mostly one dude trying to keep up with a GPU database, last I checked.

Also...

DynamiteCop! DynamiteCop! could you put this pic in OP? It pretty clearly makes this meaningless and this has garnered enough discussion for something with no basis
Wii U shader count fixed.

Edit: i added this gpu and never read up on the die situation as it was quite a bit after release before anything could be confirmed.
