Mass killer Anders Breivik given computer in his cell to reply to fan mail from army of sick fans

The neo-Nazi is also keeping a diary of prison life he intends to publish

Mass murderer Anders Breivik has been given a computer in his prison cell – so he can reply to thousands of letters from his twisted band of fans.

Breivik has been spending eight hours a day typing replies to the sick letters sent to him by supporters since he massacred 77 people – most of them teenagers – in Norway last year.

The neo-Nazi is also using his computer to keep a diary of prison life which he eventually plans to publish.

His lawyer Vibeke Hein Baera, who visits Breivik every week, told the Sunday Mirror: “He gets many letters from around the world.

"These he replies to the old-fashioned way, by writing a letter back, and posting them.”

One letter to the killer said chillingly: “Thank you for a well conducted operation, but it is of course sad that you are where you are now.”

Another fan wrote: “Both you and we know you are not psychotic, but a fully aware person that sacrificed yourself for the cause.”

Breivik, 33, is in a maximum security ward at Telemark Prison near Oslo.

He is on trial and has admitted killing 77 people and injuring 242 on July 22 last year by bombing government buildings in Oslo and shooting young Labour Party supporters on the island Utoya.

Was probably stupid but apparently he was promised it for details on other people involved because they were fearing more attacks. Also worth noticing he will only have access to this until the trial is completely done (as it was the police he made the deal with). Guess it seemed like a good deal for the police at the time until they realized he wasn't part of some huge network of terrorists, but the deal was made.

So in other words he really just write his letters in Word rather than hand writing and that privilege will probably be taken away from him soon anyway.

Can't be repeated enough. The Mirror are almost as worse than the Daily Mail/Sun when it comes to making shit up.

It can be repeated too much, cause the story is not made up. It's just not quite as crazy as it might sound at first, as I said before it's a computer with Word on it which he got in a deal he struct to give out info about others. So now he can write on a computer and guess print out letters instead of having to hand write them (which he would have been allowed to), so it's not that big a deal except the bad signal it obviously sends.

Yeah, I wouldn't believe this to be true, The Mirror is not a reliable source and one of their favourite type of stories is "person X who committed crime Y is doing Z in prison, how outrageous!"

Hm, well apparently it's true.

Calls for the prime minister to step down

Something odd is happening in Norway. The same country that was admired worldwide for its civil response to the horrific twin terror attacks last July by Norwegian mass killer Anders Behring Breivik now appears bent on justice.

Per Sandberg, Progress Party deputy leader and head of the parliamentary justice committee, has suggested that Jens Stoltenberg, Norway’s prime minister, would have been forced to accept responsibility for the failings on July 22, 2011 that led to 77 deaths and step down if he had led a minority-coalition government. Even some families of the Labor party youths who were killed in Mr. Breivik’s shooting rampage on the island of Utøya, as well as the editorial page of Norway’s largest daily newspaper Verdens Gang, are urging for Mr. Stoltenberg to resign.

[...]

The tipping point seems to be the 22 July Commission’s damning 482-page report, released yesterday. The report, requested by Stoltenberg himself, found that his office was entangled in a bickering war with the ministries of justice and government administration for seven years over the closure of the main street in the government complex to vehicle traffic.

The street was found in 2004 to be vulnerable to a car bomb attack that could substantially damage the series of government buildings tightly packed in the Oslo quarter. Stoltenberg even wrote a memo in 2007 saying it was not a pressing issue.

The commission concluded that the abrogation of responsibility enabled Breivik to easily park a van laden with fertilizer explosives in front of Stoltenberg’s office, killing eight, wounding hundreds, and damaging the office complex beyond repair. Shortly thereafter, Breivik drove to Utøya and hunted down youths at Labor’s political summer camp, eventually killing 69 people in the country’s worst peacetime tragedy.

[...]

The prime minister seems to regard the sudden change in sentiment as so worrisome that he has called for – and been granted – a special parliamentary meeting to present his plans for enacting the changes recommended by the commission.

[...]

The next chance for change would be national elections next September.

What would be the logic behind this?

see who is sending that stuff, inform authorities in that area of these types of mails? (hopefully). also his letters will obviously go via the authorities/psychiatrists, so more info is good info. just chuck em in the bin when done IMO.

article is mildly sensational because a computer these days kind of implies internet, which he obviously doesn't have.

Breivik prepares comments for verdict hearing
Published on 22 August 2012 - 3:42pm

Norwegian gunman Anders Behring Breivik has prepared remarks he hopes to read out in court after the verdict is given in his trial for killing 77 people, his lawyer said in remarks published Wednesday.

"He wants to be held responsible," lawyer Geir Lippestad told the daily newspaper Aftenposten. "He thought about what he wanted to say to the judges and so has prepared a few lines for every outcome."

Lippestad said he was unsure if Breivik would be able to address the Oslo court on Friday, when five judges will announce whether they consider the 33-year-old legally responsible for his crimes.

The verdict determines whether Breivik will spend a long sentence behind bars or in a closed psychiatric ward.

On July 22, 2011, Breivik set off a car bomb outside the government offices in Oslo, killing eight people, before going to the island of Utoeya, northwest of the capital, where he spent more than an hour gunning down another 69 people, mostly teenagers, attending a Labour Party youth camp.

Breivik has confessed to the killings but his 10-week trial has been one of the most compelling in Norway's history as the court tries to delve into his mindset.

Another of his lawyers, Tord Jordet, told the tabloid Verdens Gang that his client is working on a sort of autobiography in which he would detail his preparations for the attacks and include revelations about the mysterious Knights Templar.

Breivik claims he began his ideological crusade in 2002 as part of the Knights Templar -- an organisation whose existence police have never been able to confirm.

The book "will contain more information than what he told the police," Jordet said, adding that the book would be written in English and available next year.

Breivik has presented himself to the court as a writer and wrote a 1,500-page manifesto he published online just before the massacre.

Breivik has said he would not appeal the case if judges find him sane.

He also has his own courtyard for the daily walk. The reason he has all these cells is to prevent him from getting into contact with the other inmates, since he's seen as a higher security risk than the rest. He might lose the "computer-cell" after the verdict is given.

That is bullshit. I get the segregated aspect, but overall much like at the Hauge, I think it's better than most of our dorms in college and roomier than studio apartments in New York.

But when you're in a college dorm you can walk out the door, and meet people. That automatically makes it 1000 times better than any prison cell, which you have to sit in alone all day.

As a law-abiding citizen, I can safely say I can't afford that.

That's nuts.

Wonder why they didn't show the footage from the cameras that could see the van. Maybe 'cause they could see people caught in it or somthing :/
