Tetris DS: New Screenshots; Info

I swear I'm going to get some freaky kind of gratification from playing something this retro on a sexy new ds lite.

Using Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, up to four players can compete in wireless two- or four-player battles against friends or strangers, near or far.

......and that pretty much confirms that absolutely no game ever will have online with more than 4 players.

I just thought of the advert for this

Starts off black screen with the old tetris music in the backround, someone obviously playing the old tetris (hear the blocks etc)

Then it explodes into a more techno style of the old theme music coupled with video of the new game.

Ends with the slogan "Tetris..... It's Back."

Players have as much time as they need to carefully plan their moves, so it plays very differently from the other frantic modes.

So...what are they saying here? The blocks aren't even falling? Or do they mean the time between each of the blocks? I guess it could work in multiplayer though.

I think that mode plays like one of those sliding puzzle games, but I don't really understand how.

You start to wonder why Nintendo never listens to great ideas from fans like this. Nintendo always seem to pull off something less stellar and interesting themselves.

Maybe you turn the ds upsidedown to reverse the flow of gravity.

Yeah, that mode sounds pretty cool. You slide and turn (by touching) the pieces in the pile on the touchscreen to align them and make lines while new pieces are falling ("roundbased" like Bust-a-move I guess...)

Rare for a Nintendo game to not pad the physical dividing area of the screens. (Those shots draw it as contiguous, but it probably wouldn't work well any other way.)

Yeah. I think it only uses both screens for the playingfield in the non-realtime mode(s). It would be too weird otherwise...

THQ is just co-producing it due to the fact they have the rights.

THQ has nothing to do with this game anymore. It's an entirely different game than the original Tetris DS that we had in the pipeline.

The Tetris Company is the owner of the Tetris license, and they sub-license it out to other publishers. THQ scrapped the first DS version. Nintendo picked up the license, re-did it, and now we have Tetris DS with all the cool Nintendo stuff.

Original mode plz. Original mode plz. Original mode plz. Original mode plz. Original mode plz. Original mode plz. Original mode plz. Original mode plz. Original mode plz. Original mode plz.

If they want to add something to original mode, then allow high score saving. But thats it. I want black and white (with the ability to chose the 4 colors of the GBC) and the original music.

Blue planet software, not THQ, owns Tetris rights. (it's a company formed by former members of Bulletproof). THQ is only a licensee.

I want a new KLAX dammit!

Hahaha... THQ will shed bitter tears when this game outsells every iteration of Tetris they have released. Let's not forget it'll be better than any of them as well.

Online Tetris is an evil beast that consumes men's souls.

Very nice. I'm glad there seems to be a classic mode with no "items" and things. I wonder if we'll be able to actually play who we want to on our friends list, this time?

I demand classic mode, no items, same scoring, same game speed, same control limitations.

It's the ONLY way to compare my scores in this game to my scores in classic GB Tetris.

Standard: This Mario-themed mode features the same addictive game play that made the original Tetris so wildly popular. Players guide falling Tetriminos (falling blocks) and form horizontal lines to clear them away. Mario™ runs around Super Mario Bros.® levels in the background.
Thought so, although I'm still waiting for direct confirmation that exactly what he does in these levels is related to how you're scoring in Tetris.
Touch: This unique take on Tetris really shows off the touch-screen capability of Nintendo DS. Players use a stylus to drag and move Tetriminos in a giant stack to make them fall into horizontal lines. In early levels, they can tap Tetriminos to spin them just the way they need them. Players have as much time as they need to carefully plan their moves, so it plays very differently from the other frantic modes.
Awesome. I've always wondered what a Tetris game not based on speed would feel like. I'll probably suck at it like I do at Puzzle League or Zoo Keeper, but still, I'm just glad it's in there. It's kind of like having an entirely separate game...

you have got to be kidding.

Ermm...

Says it right there in the article.

I have been waiting for a Tetris DS since the day I bought my DS.

I just hope the game has one simple "original style" mode where you can just play Tetris like the original game was, but with a high score board this time.

I don't get it, do you guys want an original mode as in EXACTLY like the Gameboy Tetris? As in same graphics, same sound, same everything? That's not very likely.

If you just want a plain old Tetris mode, no gimmicks...like I say, it says it has one right there in the article. Unless you count Mario bouncing around on the top screen as making it play differently.

Erm...HOW does it? Just ignore it, it's on the top screen, it won't get in the way. If you can't ignore it, cover it with a piece of paper, but why that's make it play differently is beyond me.

I suppose the fact that you can seemingly hold blocks and see more coming will make the game play differently though. It's going to basically be normal Tetris though, so I'm relieved about that. They should definitely include the option to reduce or increase the number of pieces coming and things in multiplayer though, it seems like it'd be very easy to put in there.

This is so, so mine. Bizarre that my first DS purchase of 06 I didn't even know EXISTED until after new years...
