The Capcom sweep continues

This still never guaranteed Capcom's success with the remakes though. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD 2012 was diabolical and that franchise is probably bigger than RE. They just did an outstanding job, at least so far.
Yeah. and clearly is because of the RE Engine.

jesus christ, some of y'all have really wrung this "woke" word to its death.

What's woke about this remake ? please be specific.

I love when you can spot the people like him who have definitely Googled "franchise name + porn" at some point

RE engine does alot of heavy lifting for them and it was smart shifting to it, even mon hun.

The hate for Capcom was (like most hate for Ubi and EA) kind of overblown. RE6 was at least an OK fun game when you know it's flaws.

And everyone went through the "make it multi-player" phase. Capcom just weren't in the position to be making those games

Just a reminder you say this even though it hasn't been like that since 3S
hence why i said "it's been so long". Now get outta here
There was definitely a time Capcom were very high on the most hated list. It was the 'dlc on disc' era and they had a string of poor decisions.

But they've bounced back incredibly well from then.
wish i could say the same for EA... they do seem to be recovering somewhat though with jedi survivor looking great and Dead Space Remake being quite good

Yeah. and clearly is because of the RE Engine.
worst part is that some people claim that the RE engine looks 'dated' even though RE4 Remake is an amazing looking game and is about as detailed as many of the other releases like callisto and DS Remake.

dump that engine and the capcom game machine gun turns into a pistol, weak and slow

Personal opinion, I didn't liked 7, 8 was decent at best and r3make was a moneygrab farce, don't care for megaman or the lawyer one.

They are mainly the monster hunter developers to me until they return to third person re for main chapters and until they prove that dogma 2 is not gonna be another mid game with great combat like the first one.

In my jap chart they are better than square and konami and sligtly better than fromsoft because i like mh more than souls games.

Re engine was great last gen but it needs a nextgen upgrade.

that's understandable, 7 is not that good as a resident evil game.

it's wacky sure, the baker family are some of the most iconic and unique antagonists in gaming, i LOVE the beautiful blend of comedy and horror capcom managed to strike with them.... but the gameplay as a whole is very lacking, they went a bit too far in the horror aspect rather than a great blend of both action and horror like RE2 Remake and RE8

a hot take to some but while elden ring was great, fromsoft isnt nearly as diverse as capcom
fromsoft perfected their craft sure but capcom is a jack and master of many trades. especially survival horror and fighting games

square and konami.... we don't talk about those

remember crapcom? remember SFxTekken? Remember SFV? Remember Resi 5 and 6?

people fucking hated capcom back then and they still make a few blunders today like MVC infinite. but they've gone from one of the most reviled to one of the most beloved in just a decade. I can't think of a turn around story better than that
They were never hated to that extent bro, nothing like Ubisoft, EA, Activision, or Konami. They weren't firing on all cylinders like they are now for a brief period, but I can't remember any period of widespread hatred for them.

That being said, I approve this thread. Capcom are responsible for the production of my favorite games of all time, and in my mind are the most legendary IP holders in the industry second only to Nintendo. Yes I put them above Sega, and I fuckin love Sega.

RE7 was pretty close to how RE1 worked which was the major inspiration. RE1 was nowhere near as heavy on action as RE2 and so on. It helps that RE7 makes an even bigger impression due to it having such a cool unique element with each family member representing a different kind of horror. It deserves the love it gets but like with anything people like different things with this series because this series has been many different things.

Coming from RE6, RE7 was a breath of fresh air for me. The series was losing it's core and becoming way too overblown and action based. It was nice to have a cozy horror centric game that brought it back to its roots of survival horror and item management.

Don't forget the "we took it off disc but its the actual real ending to our single player game" DLC that they tried for awhile with Asuras Wrath and Dead Rising 4.

I want to be clear though 64bitmodels 64bitmodels . I'm kinda with you on the fact that I like my Resident Evil to have a bit more action. My personal favorite was always RE2 and I've never been as big on RE1/REmake in terms of gameplay ( i love it's story ).

So I'm not entirely crazy for RE7's gameplay in the same way but I really appreciate it's return to survival horror and SPECIAL SHOUT OUT to the DLC that had you stuck to a bed ala Misery from Stephen King. It's the cool touches and horror references like that, that make RE7 special.

Either people are too young to know this, or their memory isn't great, but during the 7th Gen Capcom wasn't exactly seen in a positive light. So yeah, these past 5 years have been seen as a comeback for them.
I remember having plenty of convo on boards regarding this. Love Capcom but I flat out hated what they were doing and the direction they were going. Including filling out surveys(Capcom ID) related to things at the time from Capcom. They themselves were self aware of what they were doing. They had plenty things going on from the westernization of projects to flat out outsourcing for west creating bad projects. They ruined Street Fighter X Tekken's potential in a couple of ways.

I hardly think that prefering capcom over fromsoft would be much of an hot take tbh, mh combat and creature design is as good as any fromsoft game and world had some incredibly intricate level design for the locations, and at least their games on pc are always great and not miserable pieces of shit like some fromsoft games.

Here is the thing with re7, the first 2-4 hours are great atmosphere wise and the baker are interesting enemies, but molded blobs enemies are a fucking joke and the game progressively lose its atmosphere the more you going forward, the protagonist is dull AF and first person doesn't work when your aim control, melee and general gunplay are pretty crap, you can kinda hide this in third person, but not in first person.

Re8 felt like a disjointed luna park, some cool parte but it didn't felt like a re game at all except for the obvious call back to 4, combat was still mediocre at best, people like to dunk on redfall gunplay but gunplay in first person re games is way worse imo.

I liked their games more during the Saturn/Dreamcast/CPS era. When they ditched arcade, I lost interest. Only modern games I played and enjoyed are the first Lost Planet, Dead Rising and the RE 2/3 remakes. I know people love them, but I find their modern fighting games not as fun as back then. Marvel sucks and SF never reached the heights of Zero 3 and Third Strike.

why? because of Remakes?
Nostalgia is a powerful drug.

The impressive thing is that they created RE Engine and made like 4 games meanwhile
S-E with Luminous was able to barely release one.
Very well done remakes and sequels for RE, an amazing return to form with dmc5, the complete turn around with SFV being one of the worst SF's at launch to being the best SF capcom has done yet (disagree all you want but the current version of SFV is fucking amazing), etc.
They've been on fire since SFV's launch proved to them that they just have to give people what they want. The days of ps3 era capcom are over.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
missed out on dmc5... might get it for ps5 since it got exclusive rt apparentl

I'm pretty sure PC and Xbox also got RT.

But I played it recently and the RT mode drops frames enough that it comes out of VRR range. Best to play with RT off and it runs at 4K/60.

I'd actually say Modern Sega's a great runner up to 2nd best publisher. Pretend Sonic* doesn't exist for a moment and then you realize that everything they've been making for the past 6 years, just like Capcom, has been propelling them to new heights... Persona and Yakuza especially. Their output and game design have been amazing so far and the fact they're dabbling in their older IPs gives me hope that we might see a return to the glory of the Genesis and Dreamcast. if it weren't for Sonic dragging their image down i'm sure people would like them a lot more
*(though even with that, they've been really expanding on Sonic with many TV shows, merchandise and marketing. it feels like he's going to become a general mascot rather than just a videogame mascot, which makes sense IMO)

With Sega I just look at their immense back catalog of franchises like Shinobi, Golden Axe, Virtua Fighter, Outrun, etc and it just collects dust. Their Lightgun games would be amazing if brought into VR!

But it feels like they just play it safe with a couple franchises these days. It’s such a shame. We did see a Panzer Dragoon remake, and a wasted HotD one, so hopefully they revisit more of their rich back catalog in the future!

thanks to the RE Engine.

watched some comparisons and you are correct about performance. RT continues to be a waste of time and resources.
no special edition on pc = no rt it seems.... and pc could do 120fps 4k in this for sure

SFV is objectively better than both by any existing metric. Roster, graphics, OST, single player content, mechanics, etc.
Alpha 3 is garbage because of V-ism and infinite juggle points. Third Strike is garbage because of parries essentially removing key components of sf's gameplay.
There's a reason why only one archetype of characters is viable in 3S. Zoners and grapplers are pick me if you want to lose characters in 3S.

Marvel does suck though. I'd rather have a full capcom roster with mvc gameplay.

I'm excited for the near future. They're about out of safe runway.
  • Safe remakes are nearly exhausted
  • Street Fighter is out, Monster Hunter will continue with the World model.
  • 1st person RE has been done twice now, not sure how much they can do the same thing.
  • DMC seems finished finally
Seems to me like RE9 will have to be some kind of reinvention. Pragmata is something new. Dragon's Dogma 2 is going to dethrone Elden Ring, and will likely be pretty different from the 1st one. I don't know if they have a choice but to innovate soon.
They still have a lot of safe remake to make, 3 onimusha games, re5 and 6, 2 megaman legends and tron bonne, 2 dino crisis game, 2 maximo games etc.

If they still did pure 2d, a sf alpha 3 remake would break the universe most probably.

So let me get this straight, i post a thread about the recent sweep that one of my favorite game developers has been on, you run in and point out that 2 of the (still critically acclaimed) games i posted were a bit old, then proceed to insult and shit on me because of that mistake. I'M the autistic one here???

I'm not gonna stop posting about my favorite game developer, if you don't like the thread you can leave or put it on ignore, troll.

i want a blend lol
One of the reasons i am excited for RE4 remake is in the hopes it'll bring a bit more horror to RE4 as the game was very unscary. even a more horror oriented atmosphere would go a long way to help RE4 fit in more with the franchise.

It's pretty disingenuous to chalk up RE2 and RE3 as 'just remakes' in the traditional sense, these are effectively new games reusing scenarios rendering them far more playable to newer audiences. RE4 is a lot closer to the template of 'just a remake', but as someone who hates the older RE titles, RE2 and RE3 are fantastic to play (though I wish RE3 was longer than 4 hours)

RE2 Remake is my favorite non Nintendo game of that generation as well, really fantastic achievement and it helped save the 'action' side of the series for me. They didn't exactly get to reskin the old PS1 games during this effort, there is a reason RE2 is such a huge seller for the series.

all i know is that they're making an attempt to bring crazy taxi and Jet set back. Outrun isn't that much far off and by god a new Outrun with an emphasis on graphics, with the tech that we have today would be a feast for the eyes. Whether or not Sega has it in them to produce another visual showcase like Sonic Unleashed though is the real question

Capcom are straight dumping on the rest of the industry in terms of releasing games. In 6 years capcom managed to release 5 brand new amazing look resident evil games. Mean while the rest of the industry is like “games are hard to make and expensive please understand our wall of text twitter delay”
To be fair. All those RE games can be finished in 10 hours. Some a bit more, some a bit less. Lots of backtracking in them too.

MT Framework and RE engine are powerhouses from both of their respective era.

Unlike most other Japanese devs, Capcom always had an excellent technology stack. And I think that's why they had such a good comeback, it empowered their designers to do awesome games.
