Crash was made for the ps1/ps2. Games would be terrible and outdated gameplay wise nowadays. Dont know why so many are jumping on this bandwagon for a return. Just let it stay dead. Naughty Dog moved on for a good reason lol

There is nothing outdated about 3d platforming.

Yes. Characters in the game sit down and play the actual game on a PS1, and the player controls it.

I wanted to wait for a price drop, but I guess im gonna play it day 1 now.

I forgot that as time goes on things that were fun become terrible.

Why is that? I have more trust in the quality if Sony are behind it.

I doubt Sony would give it to one of their major developers if they were doing it. Seriously doubt naughty dog would even consider it.

And it's just nicer to have things on all platforms ha

Seriously tho it's more the whole it was multiplat for a while I'd just hate to see it go back to a single platform

I think we all want Naughty Dog to work on it but I can see the team who made Knack getting the job.

do you honestly think it will be exactly like the ps1 games? Obviously they would modernise it.

Insomniac fits the bill perfectly and the sales trends continue to hold for R&C it will be definitely worth it for Sony

I usually roll my eyes at these Crash threads.

Really?? Okay. I'm going to go into the Off-Topic forum and argue "The case for the return of Ace of Base"

That was until I saw this...

Naughty Dog tweets a stylized drawing of Crash Bandicoot by its Game Director (Bruce Straley) - Source

Holy shit!! Now THAT is something I'm in favor of!

Imagine it: Crash + Psychonauts + Meth = day one purchase

Let's make this shit happen!! I'm on #TeamCrash now!!

The only Crash Bandicoot titles that anyone really remembers were the original three. Much of the nostalgia surrounding these titles is due to Sony's heavy marketing during their time. Sony pushed Crash as the "Anti-Mario" just as the entire Playstation library was pushed as "Anti-Nintendo" and it just blew up from there. It's basically the same stunt Sega pulled with Sonic in the early days of the SNES.

The games themselves are massively overrated, ranging from average to mediocre, and you'd struggle to find anyone remembering a game in the series past the year 1999 when Sony was no longer marketing them.

Crash Bandicoot just doesn't fit today's gaming landscape, especially on the Playstation 4. Your average Playstation 4 owner wants mature, violent games. Fallout, Call of Duty, Metal Gear Solid...these are the games individuals on that platform what to play, not cutesy run and bop platformers. If customers wanted to play those games the Wii U would have blown up.

Personally I think the Crash Bandicoot series is best remembered as a relic of the 90s. Let the Bandicoot sleep the long sleep and remember him for what he was.

what the hell did I just read?

Seriously a revival can be good for any series as long as its done right. And a new Crash can only be a good thing since any 3D platformer is good nowadays since they are so rare.
In b4 they change genres like KI.

I myself have never played Crash. Kinda want to try with all the news and since I love 3D platformers. Sadly still not on Vita store and hard to hookup PS3. Maybe they'll get native PS4 ports up atleast or when Sony announces they own it unlock it on Vita.

Someone who doesn't seem to have recently played the games and is assuming they're bad. I hate this mindset. "If game is more than 10 years old then its probably aged horribly". Jeez, if something was fun when it came out it doesn't magically become a bore fest as time goes on. If its bad now then it was bad then, very few games have aged when it comes to gameplay.

It's not as easy to modernize a game as it seems, whether it's for the 3C and to introduce new mechanics, all while trying to not have fanboys scream at you because it's nor like old crash, nor like what they wanted.

Replace Leafs with Crash.

Lol.

Honestly the best case for the Crash to return is the sales numbers for the latest R&C. I find that to be the best reason to be hopeful for this.

The main difference is that R&C hasn't been a bad/dead franchise those past ten years and was still selling well. While it makes a point that mascot games can still work on ps4, they are still in different genres and have less of a nostalgia goggles effect. Not from the same gen of players.

Why is that? I have more trust in the quality if Sony are behind it.

Yeah I mean look at Knack.

Before, I would have agreed with you but Ratchet & Clank alone shits all over this statement.
The living proof that both "violent mature" and "cutesy run platformers" games can co-exist painlessly on the same platform.

There's clearly a thirst for mascot style games in the market. I'll bet you dollars to donuts that Ratchet & Clank is at worst #3 on the monthly NPD charts. It's been the top selling title overall in the UK for two weeks now. People are going to be very surprised.

The thirst never went away. The games just haven't existed, or have been utter shit or half-arsed. Or they've been too quirky (Rayman, Puppeteer) for true mainstream success. Ratchet's success proves that if you make a quality mascot-style game with a decent budget that looks appealing, people will buy it. And, that is no different to the PSX era.

Sony has always been about having a platform that appeals to as wider audience as possible. It's never been about a few big franchises for them (as with MS), it's about a range of exclusive games that appeal to many different sections of the market. Sony has always done this well since PSX.

If Crash comes back I can't see it being a AAA release, I just can't see how you'd make the gameplay relevant in today's market.

I can however see it coming back as €30 3D platformer game.

Nice summary. So many indications for a return. Either that or Sony are trolling us in an unprecedented and very expensive way.

Make a Crash game you intend to profit on and see who sends their lawyers after you.
Actually a brilliant idea. Someone make up a Kickstarter and see what happens.

Let's not pretend there are no crazies out there who are already a few steps ahead of this. lol

Haters gonna hate.

Crash Bandicoot IS returning. I don't care if you think it's outdated or the original games were poor. There's a bunch of us that loved the originals and want a new game. There's no need for you to play it. Get over it.

I love Crash Bandicoot always and forever.

Like a linear 3D platformer I hope. If they somehow make Crash into an open world game I'm out.

What if it's more like Jak and Daxter 1 (Or its sequels without the guns)?

I know that's not exactly what many here want but if given, would that be acceptable for Crash?

I don't think anything is wrong with the existing Crash formula, Nintendo have proved that sidescrollers can still warrent a full retail price so I have complete faith that a linear 3D Crash would still succeed. The whole identity of the franchise is being a 3D game that progresses like a sidescroller, anything else just wouldn't be Crash.

Since the Uncharted 4 easter egg without any Activision mention, it's obvious Sony have the rights now.

Naughty Dog is providing the benchmark for videogame production with Uncharted 4.

I really want to see their take on cartoony visuals with their current level of craftmanship. I want to see how high we can go.

Those games are open world.

I don't know if I'd consider Jak 1 open world. It's sequel, yeah that's true, but I thought Jak 1 as more of a open levels akin to Mario 64 albeit a seemless hub. Less about crafting a consistent believable world and more about having just big , seperate levels focusing majorly or solely on the gameplay.

Good point! Truth be told, I don't have much nostalgia for the early Crash games since I grew up Sega and Nintendo but I find the situation very exciting regardless. Seeing a platforming franchise come back full force, it reminds me how pumped I was with Sonic Generations (even if that comeback was pretty short lived) and because of that, I'm just excited to see how it turns out.

Really, I'm just rootin' for you guys on having a good platformer.

If Crash is to return, I doubt the game will be full price (later ones, perhaps, but not the PS4 debut). I'd expect something akin to Ratchet & Clank -- a somewhat leaner and cheaper product.

At this point I have no doubt that he will return.

As for the recent evidence
the other PS game in UC4 lying there, Abe's Exoddus, is a PS classic that has a remake in development, which I think is a hint as well
. Crash may get a similar treatment.

It suddenly occured to me that if a Crash remake/reboot is succesful, chances are fairly high we will get a new Crash racer down the line as well.

During the PS3 gen Sony has tried to rival Mario Kart a few times and didn't succeed. But if they handle a new Crash racer well, it could be very succesful I think.

I can't think of anyone but naughty dog who is up for the task, and i don't trust modern naughty dog to do it justice

Sucker Punch and Insomniac both can handle it, I am sure. Even though their recent games differ from original Crash, I think they would be a great fit.
