‘The Dark Knight’ Faces A New Villain: Gamble?
8 Comments | Published by Larry Carroll on Thursday, May 17, 2007 at 12:27 am.

First he battled Ra’s Al Ghul and The Scarecrow, and then we saw him heading off to take down The Joker. Now, what kind of Gamble is coming the way of Batman?

MTV News has learned that rapper/actor David Banner auditioned this week for a role in “The Dark Knight,” the super-secretive sequel to 2005’s “Batman Begins.” According to the beefy “Black Snake Moan” supporting actor, he would play a villain named “Gamble,” another criminal to help fill out the rogue ranks alongside Heath Ledger’s Joker.

Banner, a long-time comic book fan who named himself after the main character in the TV version of “The Incredible Hulk,” could barely contain his excitement when we caught up with him in South Central Los Angeles on Wednesday. The star was in town to film a cameo for the music video to “International Players Anthem,” a track by UGK featuring OutKast.

After several years of making his Hollywood aspirations known, the role of Gamble could mark a big step in Banner’s career in front of the camera. The Southern-born “Play” star told us that he was so excited to read for the filmmakers, in fact, that he even shaved off his trademark beard to look more appropriate for the part.

While the news that he’s being considered is a big one for Banner himself, the larger story must be the presence of this mysterious “Gamble” character. Various searches on the Internet, as well as a call to the beloved fellow geeks at L.A.’s Golden Apple Comics, yielded little more than the consensus that this Batman baddie has never appeared in a Dark Knight comic before.

Although eager, a hesitant Banner stressed that he couldn’t divulge anything more about the character, and that he didn’t know if he had landed the part just yet. But either way, David Banner seems one step closer to joining Ledger, Christian Bale, Aaron Eckhart and the other illustrated men of Gotham City.

Directed by Christopher Nolan, “The Dark Knight” is currently filming, and is targeting a July 2008 release.

David Banner alongside Freeman, Bale, Eckhart, Ledger, and Nolan. :lol

im lovin this site so much! im glad to hear that it isnt a fake cuz my freinds were all sayin " that shit is fake, that shit is fake!" im like, no f'kin way now!

That site is great. They should have a print campaign to go hand in hand where there's flyers for Harvey Dent being defaced by Joker.

I got scared for a second. I love the look. Glad it's real. The advertisment's really kicking ass for this film. Can't wait to see what they do in the future.

Over at AICN, I posted this:

If it were a bit more symmetrical, the scarring would work better. On the right side of Ledger's face it seems to be curved into a smile-like shape, while the left side it's just a circular lump of flesh. I know making the sides match a little more wouldn't be "realistic" scarring, but we are talking about a series of movies where people ride up the sides of buildings in special cars, soft fabric can be hardened with the press of a button into a glider, and madmen try to drive entire cities insane by putting "fear juice" in the water supply.

I was thinking about that this afternoon, so I did a quick and dirty photoshop to make visual the "symmetry" of the scarring I was talking about. Since I posted this at AICN it probably won't last long before the bandwidth is maxed, so let me know what you guys think. I think it maintains the creepiness while keeping the "permanent smile" classic representation intact. Now it looks like he was slashed from the corners of his mouth to the jawbone, as if the "accident" nearly took off the top of his head.

Again, quick and dirty, but here it is:

Thanks. I suck at photoshop, but that was pretty easy to match up as Ledger has fairly even facial features.

Well, honestly, it'll probably look a bit more symmetric than you think–I say wait for a better picture of his face, as this is a vague picture.

It's gonna take some heavy moneyhatting from WB to make the MPAA give this a PG-13.

Seriously, just **** it, go for broke WB. It's not like you're going to be able to turn that thing into a kiddie-friendly tie-in at McDonalds. :lol

And that website is genius. December is too far away. :( We got the first Begins teaser during the Super Bowl in 2004 I believe.

Anthony Michael Hall said he has been filming for a role in The Dark Knight. Its a character that is present throughout the movie. Harvey Dent anyone?

Aaron Eckhart already has that role.

Aaron Eckhart was cast for that part months ago.

EDIT: Damn. Beaten twice in the same minute.

If they can make Die Hard and Aliens Versus Predator rated PG-13, The Dark Knight sure as hell can make it too.

*shakes head*

No man, JUST NO. You did not just compare AVP and DH4 to TDK.

Maybe Hall plays a time travelling Dick Grayson. :P

Summer '08 can't come soon enough...Indy 4 along with Dark Knight is a cinematic wet dream for me. Seeing the steaming pile of elephant shit that was Spider-Man 3 has only made that yearning grow.

That's a good chop, but I like the original design. The a-symmetry in the make-up of the first design really reflects madness and disturbedness.

As for the role? Early talk up at film ick indicates that, of all things, Anthony Michael Hall will be potetinally playing a 'Batman wannabe.'

This probably isn't it, but I'll throw it out for the sake of throwing it out.....
Azrael

Riddler is the closest thing I can think of for Michael Anthony Hall and a Batman wannabe

So if TDK sets up Riddler and Two Face for the third movie...

Oh no, not again!
I don't think Nolan is going to play the new villian team up per movie. I think Joker will still be around and as far as I know they are filming the 3rd right after this one.
