Yep, but the stock is still in the shitter and been pretty flat for the last 6 months.

A serious question: whose isn't?

I try to keep up but I'd love to know who goes up in a global recession, so I can back that type of horse next time ;)

This is strange to a noob like me. I see every week on CNBC google or apple are cruising along. Does the hype really affect things in the market area where it shouldn't? Nintendo's safe and boring way hurts the stock?

Yeah, probably back to where it should be but I've got some Nintendo stock so I was hoping it was gonna pick back up a little.

Maybe, currently we have a loss of $ - 68,345,468

Well THQ had a profit and Konami's usually profitable, so maybe there's a chance it won't happen.

EA might have good news too.

You're right, I forgot to add THQ. ^^

THQ Net Income: $ 6,409,000

Stock movement is generally based on expectations rather than actual profit/loss. Nintendo had an astronomical expansion of profits, and now, while still very profitable and a clear winner in their sector, the growth of profits has become an issue.

When Nintendo misses their yearly sales expectations or shipment numbers and/or revises them down, their stock will be battered--even if they're revising 20 million to 18 million or something else like that.

I think Disney reported already actually: http://www.next-gen.biz/news/disney-q3-game-sales-down-20-per-cent

Not sure where to find this on their IR site though, so this is based on the assumption that Edge is right.
Should be this here: http://corporate.disney.go.com/investors/quarterly_earnings/2009_q3.pdf (Interactive Media section)

Disney Interactive Media - Operating loss: $ - 75,000,000

From EDGE:
"Sales dropped 20 per cent to $113 million (£66.65m/€78.39m), while operating loss narrowed from $91 million to $75 million (£44.2m/€52m), (...)"

It's correct then, thx. ;)

ps3 lite @ $199 doesn't seem a option with these reports...

joke.
I don't get how people think PS3 lite @ $199 is even a possibility when Sony have been going for so long without a price drop. They've been riding it out all this long to make the PS3 profitable and now they're suddenly going to throw that all away? Nothing but a dream.

Nintendo has always been conservative, if they feel they won't hit the targets, they would've revised it down already.

I think its the fact that Google and Apple used to have such high stock prices a year or two or three years ago.

Electronic Arts - Net Income: $ - 234,000,000 (source)

Agreed. At most they will have a slight reduction ($20-$50) on their new Slim model and flush out the older ones. Basically they will be making money without any massive price drops, just as they have been doing all along.

....every company's fiscal year starts and ends differently. Why are you assuming they're all the same?

For example - Microsoft's fiscal year ends in June, starts in July. Yet they're listed with many other companies under a nonsensical Q1 FY3 2010 (Apr 09 - Jun 09) label.

I've changed it into Apr 09 - Jun 09 Earnings

I'm shocked at the losses, it's just the first quarter of FY2010 and they're already in the red and with most games delayed till early next year, it looks like sales and profits won't pick up anytime soon. Makes me wonder how much longer companies like SEGA can bleed money like this. Not to mention Sony who's about to drop the price and release new hardware. It'll be a miracle if their losses don't exceed a billion dollar at the end of this fiscal year.

I thought SEGA, SONY, and EA have pretty strong lineups from here on until the end of FY2010. They can only do so much to get people to buy their games, though if people dont have money...or are willing to spend money

Though EA struck it rich with EA Sports Active, it didnt look compelling enough for me in the E3 showcase they had about it

The whole thing seems to be a bloodbath at the moment. You really do just wonder how much longer this can go on without companies just simply going bankrupt or being bought up.

Well, that is currently happening to companies...recently Eidos and Midway...

Wait reminds me of that old rumor, was it Disney buying EA that kept popping up in news sources during the early part of this year?

Where's that 99% of the industry growth now, Nintendo? See. Told ya'* you couldn't prop up the whole industry by yourself!

* - I didn't actually tell them this.

No problem. Any company that can give you a 160% return on your stock purchase in this economy deserves to hang with the big boys.

Forbes had a list of potential buyers after EA suffered a devastating loss earlier this year. However, nothing came about it.

The only major game related purchases by Disney were Club Penguin in '07 and Gamestar in '08.

Yeah but they've been in been on the brink for such a long time this was just a straw that broke the camels back. I wonder what will happen other companies that haven't been so bad in past if it continues

Well you really have to look on the plus side. At least developers didn't give into pressure and went ahead with their artistic vision.
