* ~ * UPCOMING RELEASE DATES * ~ *

Xbox One / PS4 - It is a mystery~~~

* ~ * ABOUT THE GAME * ~ *

IGN said:
The Elder Scrolls Online is set roughly 1,000 years before the events in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and the coming of the Dragonborn, and just before the rise of Tiber Septim, the first Emperor of Tamriel. Three Alliances have emerged across the continent, each struggling for supremacy over the land. As these great powers battle one another for control of the Imperial City – and with it all of Tamriel – darker forces are moving to destroy the world.

The Elder Scrolls Online is the latest chapter of the award-winning franchise and will bring the legendary experience online for the first time. Whether you play with your friends or adventure alone, the game’s combat system allows you to focus on action and tactics, not the UI. Use any weapon or armor at any time and customize your abilities to play the way you want as you uncover the mysteries of Tamriel and seek heroic quests on your own terms. Explore the far reaches of Skyrim, the mysterious lands of Morrowind, the sprawling metropolis of Daggerfall and beyond. The choices you make, from the alliance you join to the battles you fight, will shape your destiny and the world of Tamriel.

* ~ * WHAT IT REALLY IS AND WHY YOU SHOULD CONSIDER PLAYING IT * ~ *

TESO is a spiritual successor to Mythic's MMO, Dark Age of Camelot, in an Elder Scrolls skin. The main draw of the game is the 2,000 player Alliance Vs. Alliance war that takes place on the dumb huge map that is Cyrodiil. Also the PvE turned out to be pretty sweet. Time travel, daedric pocket planes, and heart wrenching stories ahoy.

I have provided a link for your audiovisual pleasure that will explain some of the PVP mechanics better than I can. --> Here <--

* ~ * SOME COOL FEATURES * ~ *

  • Six different crafting disciplines with a surprising amount of depth to them. They are:
    • Alchemy - Brewing potions that provide a variety of buffs (and eventually poisons)
    • Blacksmithing - Crafting weapons and armors from metals.
    • Clothing - Crafting armors from leather and cloth.
    • Enchanting - Forging glyphs using three different rune types, that you can apply to your equipment for sweet effects.
    • Provisioning - The art of preparing food and drink using ingredients that you probably stole from someone's pantry.
    • Woodworking - For creating bows and shields, in addition to chakra majick infused staves.
  • Fully voiced NPC dialogue, and questing that isn't utterly transparent progress bar filling. Also the occasional branching questline. Woah.
  • Freeform character development through multiple skill lines that aren't necessarily dependent on your character's class, while still maintaining the concept of roles.
  • Adventure Zones
The first ESO Adventure Zone is called Craglorn, a zone that is situated between Hammerfell and Cyrodiil. All content in Craglorn is built for a group of four. The story revolves around a mysterious removal of the constellations from the sky, so the Warrior, the Thief, the Mage, and the Serpent all play a part in unraveling the mystery of Craglorn.

Imagine a zone similar in setup to a standard PvE zone, but tuned for a group of four. Follow a story, or just go explore. Delves are instanced to your group; these are the interior spaces where you’ll always find a boss and a Skyshard. There are events similar in mechanics to Dark Anchors but with a different fiction—and much more difficult. There are also story areas that are similar to very large dungeons—each has a quest guiding you through them. These can be replayed as much as you want. And this is just the tip of the iceberg: there are lots of little events, a full storyline and quests, more crafting opportunities, and entries to the Trials, our large-group Veteran PvE content.
  • Trials
Trials. Twelve people fighting through an increasingly difficult experience. A Trial is instanced to your group of twelve. There is a staging area where you can plan your attack and the Trial itself.

In a Trial, you will have a limited number of resurrections, known as a Soul Reservoir. Too many resurrections mean that you have failed the trial. It takes a lot of coordination to survive a Trial. The enemies you face in a Trial will be difficult, while the surroundings are some of the most beautiful places in ESO. Provided you do survive and make it to the end of a Trial, your group might make it to the leaderboard. Trials have a running clock and mistakes, including deaths, can add a time penalty. Turn in a great time, however, and you might make it to the top of the leaderboard. If you fail, your group can restart and try again.
* ~ * NEOGAF IMPRESSIONS * ~ *

I played this game at a trade show last year and it was hands down the WORST show floor experience I've ever had. Absolute broken garbage. A developer had to un-stuck me from geometry three times and the game was an ugly, buggy mess that couldn't even handle grouping with other players without screwing up.

I had the game sent to me and I have to say, it has some problems but the final game is lightyears ahead of the pre-release experience. The visuals are much improved, and while there are still some silly bugs it's overall a much less disastrous game than I was expecting. I'm having a good time.

I don't think the early negativity was misplaced, though.

Here is my review for ACG. Link
If you don't like my reviews I can sum it up.
I rated it a Buy which is just so surprising to me because the game just kept improving by leaps and bounds. I was not expecting it to get so much better in such a short timeframe.
Its got its issues, clipping, collision detections, wonkiness at times, but it has some stunning quests, great exploration, ran rock solid, boatloads of content and is worth at least the price of admission.

I am going to continue playing and revisit the review weekly for any needed changes but I went from laughing out loud at how bad it was to being mightly impressed in a short time.

To give you the quick and dirty, the biggest change for me was the collision detection that they implemented towards the end of beta. Combat before this change felt very 'floaty' and without actual feedback. The detection system now gives weight behind your blows and even though it's far from perfect, it gives the combat a very responsive feel that is close to GW2's fantastic action feel.

Beyond that, the truth is that:

a) the game is a slow burner, initially. Not sure why this was done, but the game does take maybe a good 2-3 hours before things start falling into place.

b) people have different expectations going in and weren't able to adapt to what the game was presenting. Truthfully, the game is a pure blend of MMO and ESO. Obviously, some sacrifices have to be made in both areas to get a blend that works. This is honestly one of the more different feeling MMOs i've played and it really took me a bit to shake off my expectations and notions for tropes that have existed in the MMO realm for years.

I'll give a better writeup once I put more hours in, but I hope that answers your questions. Obviously, this is only with about ~17 hours of playtime, and I have no experience with PvP yet.

Some quick things I love that old school people should love:

+ No auction house. You want to sell? Time to do things the old-fashioned way. Luckily, people are already forming trading guilds that allow people within those guilds to trade within the guilds market. It's pretty awesome and reminds me a little bit of SWG.

+No quest hubs. Want to find quests? Go out and look for them! Sure, cities usually have quests, but a majority of quests are found by just stumbling on them, like ESO games.

+The game is HARD. I can't remember the last time i've died so much in an MMO.

+Yes, there are "hidden" dungeons in the map that you can stumble onto.

+Exploration is not only great, but encourage. From EXP to hidden shards, this isn't a simple linear path. Honestly, a game hasn't felt this great exploring since EQ for me.

+Crafting is amazing.

It fucking failed before it even launched. Pass pass pass, I said I pass!

Nothing will not change my view that this will be the most disastrous MMorpg post-Star Wars. I will not even spend a dime on that game. In fact someone would have to literally pay me to play it, actually fuck it I wouldn't even play it even if I got paid. That is exactly how I feel about this monstrosity which the price tag is enough to insult me as a gamer let alone a consumer.

This was worse than Final Fantasy XIV 1.0. Let that sink in.

I was mad that this was a freebie with IGN Prime because I never would have experienced this trash if it wasn't for that.

This was the worst game I have played in my entire life. The mere thought of the game triggers an acute case of post traumatic stress disorder. Why, I contemplated suicide every time I forced myself to play it - hell it was, struggling through pure boredom and psx graphics.

They're expecting this game to bomb aren't they? I've seen NO market except a couple of CGI trailers. The Old Republic was everywhere.

Cant wait for it, it is very safe and traditional as far as MMO's come, but I prefer it by miles to FFXIV.

Lost all credibility.

I wonder if they want to slowly build an audience instead of having it be really frontloaded like other MMO launches.

I've been in the dark about this. How bad is it? I know that the combat doesn't match a ES game, but it's not even enjoyable?

Great OT. Well done. I am actually looking forward to playing this. Hope the PVP is good enough to hold me over until Camelot Unchained releases.

The PVE combat, outside of dungeons, is nothing to write home about. From what I've heard, the dungeons are aight. The game really shines when it comes to large-scale PVP warfare, though.

The only thing that interests me here is the PVP. Looks like it could be fun. Other than that, just.. die in a fire.

I'm waking up early to play tomorrow. :D

Can't decide what class to play... I wish the classes were more open like in Skyrim (like you could pick one skill line from Templar and one from Nightblade, etc.)

I bought the Imperial edition from Greenmangaming, but there's some rumors that the pre-order bonuses might not be available for third party sales until official launch. I wasn't really planning on doing an Imperial character right away, but I hope they have the explorer pack working on time.

Hilarious OT. Kinda sad how this game turned out. Still, marketing an MMO to fans of a single player game whose main features were extensive moddability and being the single most awesome person on the face of the planet was a really dumb move. Especially when one of the main features you latch onto as the big 'draw' is the combat that everyone agrees is shitty.

Hope this doesn't hurt ES:VI.

Also, looking forward to maybe playing this if (ok, when) it goes F2P. Despite the fact that I'm not gonna spend a penny on any game that locks a race behind a paywall before day 1, I honestly am kinda curious and the beta weekends, while enough to make sure I didn't buy this thing full price, weren't enough to totally kill my curiosity.

OK the PVP seems interesting, reminds me of Guild Wars 2. Hopefully it's more structured and rewarding than GW2s when I played it last.

I know this game is coming out for the PS4/Xbox One, but does the PC version support gamepad out of the gate or is it something that will be coming?

I'm so addicted to MMO's that I'm thinking of getting this. I'm bored of WOW.

I played the beta weekends and I like them better as the beta continued.

You can grab the standard or imperial edition from greenmangaming for 20% off with the coupon code, PLOCVS-G2T5YX-DATY6M. Keep in mind that the standard edition only has the 3-day early access, though.

Yes to both, IMO. It really helps that they mixed a ton of PvX content (including public dungeons) in there to cater to different playstyles. Here's a map of the landmarks in Cyrodiil.

Oh nice! So you have to fight with your guilds to get to 'raid' style content? That's going to be a mixture of amazing frustration and jubilant celebrations for sure. Grief guilds will form just to try and stop people from raiding. Nice!

I wouldn't classify it as raid content, but you'll want to take a few of your guild buddies into the dungeons scattered about Cyrodiil so you don't get ganked while clearing the dungeons. I believe they'll be turning the Imperial City into some "Darkness Falls"-styled content down the line, though.

Unlike the majority of others here, I enjoy ESO. Hell, I just recently purchased an Imperial Edition off eBay since they were practically sold out a month or so ago.

In the famous words of P.Diddy III, King of Badboydian, "Thou shall hateth me now;Know ye I shall not stopeth now."

Also, I would love to be part of the GAF guild. Sign me up.

Ah, OK. Sounds like the jumping puzzle exploration areas in GW2 WvW. Still, glad there's stuff to 'fight' over rather than just towers.

wow, didn't know this was coming out so soon, seems like there's no marketing for this, guess Bethesda isn't too confident this'll succeed

Someone's got to take charge and make the guild first.

Somnia and I are repping Acolytes Gaming, if you're interested in applying for that. They're actively recruiting for TESO at the moment.

Yep, except with more dungeon bosses and fat loot.

Yeah, I actually just sent you a PM stating I read that wrong. Too much skooma apparently...

Cool, I'll look into it. Was contemplating of going with DC at launch, maybe this will persuade me.

I'm super excited for it. During the beta phase, I thought the game was kind of a joke-- my view was not unlike a lot of the GAF opinions I hear-- until I got out of the starting islands and hit about level 7 or 8. Then it all started to click and make sense-- the world opens up, there is interesting stuff to find, you've started to flesh out the skill set for your character, and you've started to accumulate some more interesting equipment, among other things.

I've played quite a few games in the genre, yet playing ESO was the only time I've ever found myself actually having fun while playing an MMORPG. I had to pry myself away from the beta ("why am I wasting this time-- this character gets waxed in two days!").

I don't really play MMOs, but I'm actually going to play this for a month or two (till I get tired of it) because it is Elder Scrolls.

I've heard similar things from other people. I never left the starting islands (I had very little time to play the beta). The shoddycast beta review got me a little more interested in this game than I was previously.

My question for you and others who experienced more of the beta - would you recommend this game to someone who is a fan of TES? If I were to buy this game it would be to experience the lore/story, exploration, crafting, and dabbling here and there with group content and PvP (I'm usually not a big PvP person, but this game reminds me a LOT of DAoC which is a good thing).

Yes, I understand I can just read up on the lore and story aspects of this game without spending a dime, but to me it's less about the knowledge and more about the immersion. I'm one of those guys who stops to read every book in a TES game. I go out of my way to talk with every NPC until they have nothing left to say. Basically, I want to know if this a true TES game but just with the added component of online.

Thanks in advance for everyone's impressions.

From what I've played, the questing seemed pretty good. The game has its fair share of kill / get x things, but I've encountered a lot of interesting scenarios. Some of the questlines I completed even had decision points that effect the outcome of the quest.

Also, if you're interesting in reading lore, there's absolute shit ton of books scattered around the world. I'm not a lore buff though, so I can't really tell you how faithful the game is to the lore of the previous TES games.

Bethesda published games always manage to cast famous actors for roles that really didn't need them. See Rogue Warrior and Dishonored.

Budget for this game has got to be off the hook. Kate Beckinsail, Alfred Molina, and Malcolm McDowell can't be cheap.
