weird, my companions never die unless I kill them myself. Whenever they're about to die they just go on one knee like the other unkillable characters in the game and the enemies see them as non hostile until they get up again.

It wouldn't surprise me if her death were a bug as it hasn't happened since.

Game is strange. Most times I get 60 FPS then sometimes I load the game and it's 25 FPS and I have to reinstall the Beta drivers then it's normal again :(

I was chatting with a friend and suddenly came with the most awesome idea for a mod. Don't read this if you don't want your hopes crushed.

Headset mod so you can shout words into the mic and let voice detection change it into in-game shouts. On-the-fly switching and... FUS RO DAH.

Would be... so epicly awesome T_T

Duuuuuuuuuuuuude. T_T

I want that.

Switching shouts and everything else in this game sucks so fucking bad.

Is that not possible? I know nothing about modding but it's possible that it could be done indirectly with two mods:

1. Allow key combinations for equipping (i.e. instead of just pressing 1, 2, 3, 4, etc., you can equip and use Unrelenting Force by pressing "+1, Frost Breath by pressing "+2, etc.)

2. A program running outside of Skyrim which translates voice commands into Key Presses. You set it to make 'Fus Ro Dah' = "+1, etc.

I'm sure there's a more intuitive way of doing it, but it's surely possible in one form or another?

Have any of you guys tried Skyrim in 3d mode? I tried it just now and it has to be the only game that makes me feel incredibly nauseous. I don't know if it's the fov or how the weapons and menus are but I can't play for more than a few minutes without feeling sick and I don't tend to feel sick at all playing in 3d.

tried to find videos on youtube,

here's how it typically is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wljHHH5x_UE

this one is probably the worst:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cld-ykM-6eo

(tip for those without 3d use "cross eyed mode")

edit: the 3dvision rating is "excellent" btw, lol

No problem at all. I'm using a projector and a 100inch screen. Looks awesome.

Disable the game's crosshair (replace with NVIDIA's) and water reflections.

I have been playing it in 3D, on my 100" front projector setup. FoV 85, 3D depth ~40%, convergence plane adjusted so it's somewhere around my character's hands when casting. It's completely awesome except for some small issues with water.

Whats the best way to adjust how sensitive the dual sticks are using a 360 gamepad on PC? I bump the right stick slightly and my field of vision shifts 180 degress. Close combat is almost impossible with such touchy controls.

Running on laptop using wireless controller

Windows 7x64
i5 M460 2.53GHz
6GB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 1GB

Running game at recommended 'Medium' settings

Must be a problem with your controller or the wireless connection. I had to bump up the sensitivity to max to make using a wired 360 controller pleasant.

alright, will mess with it a bit. im starting to think the menus are part of the problem but I can avoid those mostly. would be nice if popups to pick items were on the object or on the character in 3rd person. feel like i cant play in 3rd at all because the text is so far behind the character

Area of effect spells can still kill them. And melee attacks aimed at you can if your standing next to them, as if they miss you they'll hit them instead.

Is there a camera mod out so I can have an over-the-shoulder view while in 3rd person view?

Catalyst 11.11 does nothing to improve performance. Still CTDs and freezes.

ATI. Never. Again. Ever.
Yeah, after installing 11.11 I got into the game once...it froze, and then I couldn't even start it after that. Pair of 6950s here.

Reboots, reinstalled the drivers, use Driver Sweeper between attempts, disabled/enabled Crossfire, tried launching windowed, through Radeon Pro, nothing. Game crashed on startup every...single...time.

Reinstalled 11.9, runs perfectly. Same with 11.10 preview drivers. This plus the still MIA Crossfire profile marks the latest in a long line of small disappointments that have driven me from being an AMD supporter.

So, I decked out Lydia in full crafted dwarf armor, all enchanted. I decided to leave her at my house for a few of the DB quests due to her hosing my sneak. I did quite a few quests and killed a dragon so was overburdened. Decided to go to my house to unload all of my scales and bones and Lydia is waiting for me inside....

All of her armor/weapons are gone. She's back to her default armor set/weapon. WTF?
Companions revert to their default equipment when sent home. Just have her join you again and transfer any piece of equipment from or to, and they'll reequip everything you gave them.

Needing help!

Whenever I load a save, the game visually freezes. I can still hear sound, even myself moving about if I play with WASD. Where it freezes is basically just on the loading screen; you can see the item that it pans skipping back and forth. And then if I alt-tab enough, Nvidia drivers crash and tell me they had to reset.

Any suggestions?

On my 2GB 6950 setting AA to Adaptive caused a lot of flickering and stuff to go transparent on a regular basis. Also, a lot of plants didn't looked picked after I picked them. I had to set it to Supersample to fix that.

Anyone having frame rate issues even though they have a great/good pc?

My specs are:

i5 2500k @ 4.5ghz
Geforce GTX 580 SC
4 x G.Skill Ripjaws
Asus 1155 P8Z68-V Pro
Running at 1920 x 1200.

Sometimes the framerate drops into the late 30s/early 40s when there isn't a great deal happening. For instance, in some caves/indoor locations, if there's a lot of light etc, the fps drops a lot, and turning reveals a real chug like motion, as if the game is skipping frames.

It don't happen too often, but generally, the fact that some inside locations are dropping so much, makes me think this game is the problem and not my PC.

If anyone can help out, I'd appreciate it.

OP is full of info and tweaks but it seems more for users with high rigs, or it wont say what the tweak is for...

My setup :

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E4400 @ 2.00GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz
Memory: 3072MB RAM
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS

Not high end whatsoever bug higher than required specs. I play with everything set to low (horrible draw distance, I'll walk in a field and a fence will pop up 1 second before I reach it)

my problem : in big fights, my fps gets low (around 10-15). In the open world fps is great but in dungeons when fighting, it's horrible.

Are there a few easy tweaks I could do?

No one can help ? : (
Sucks to buy a game when you have te requiered specs and its still unplayable.

msconfig in windows search, go to services and enable it there.

What FOV is best? I just tweaked it and really like 60 (if I'm looking at the right screen shots). Still testing that out.

Tested again on 90, no change. Must be doing something wrong.

The "best" FoV depends on your display aspect ratio and how much of your vision your display fills (the relative size of the display). I play ~2.5m from a 100" screen, and I usually use around 85°.

You set water sampling higher? I have mine set to 8.

Dice, if the program is installed that should be in services. Should say "Radeon Pro Support Service"

Odd. Try re-installing.

Will make it 80 and call it day, the FOV.

Just did. The service is running now but I get the same non-boot with error code that I posted.

Is there an easy way to cap my framerate at 60 or so? I want to fix that bug where the physics go crazy in doors due to high framerates.

To all the people knocking using a slight sharpening filter, I can't say I see where you are coming from. When I first applied mild sharpen (no color changes) all the textures seemed to pop much more for me, to the eyes it like free bump mapping.

Make your own decision for which looks better (before/after):

These are with what I believe are my final ini settings. I've messed with more things than I ever thought I would but distance LOD detail an pop-in are excellent and performance is at 60fps except around towns or large vistas overseeing towns. Never a dip below 38 and that is in extreme cases......

This is the best has ever looked for me. It took a lot of reading on settings but for the performance I get, this looks amazing. Minus some better textures, this is what the game should have looked like for me on launch.

Still missing with FXAA Post Process Injector, whenever I think I like a certain look somebody suggests an alternative config goddamit.

I think I'll settle with this look for now:

Here's a fun glitch:

- Wake up computer
- Start Skyrim
- Cast spell
- Game freezes
- Restart Skyrim
- Everything fine for hours and hours.

Every. Single. Time.

Specs:

i5 2500k
HD 6950
4 GB RAM
ASUS mobo
4xMSAA and 16xAF forced in CCC, all settings in game set to Ultra.

I have the patch that allows the game to see more than 2 GB of RAM, but I had this problem before that.

There really needs to be an OOO for this game. It's far too easy, far too soon. I think I've killed 15+ dragons and they've all been the easiest kills ever. I just take the hit from his fire breath(or even better my horse will take it for me) and I just hack away.

Oh and companions need to be able to die from enemies as well, instead of just from you.
Have you tried adjusting the difficulty to Master?

Something is clearly not clicking here for me. The FXAA injector mod is no longer working for me at all. I can remove everything and put it back in my common/skyrim directory and nothing. It was working for forever and now it's not. Ugh, fuckin A.

To all the people knocking using a slight sharpening filter, I can't say I see where you are coming from. When I first applied mild sharpen (no color changes) all the textures seemed to pop much more for me, to the eyes it like free bump mapping.

Make your own decision for which looks better (before/after):

It's purpose is for mitigating the overall softness you get with FXAA, but not using FXAA would yield a sharper image to begin with.

I posted this in the OT but I thought I'd quote it here in case there is something I can do to salvage this quest.

I believe I ruined one of my quests. It is the
Forbidden Legend
quest. I activated a the quest on my map and noticed that it was pointing to a dungeon I already cleared. The dungeon is
Geirmund's Hall
and when I went back most everything had reset. I continued through to where the quest arrow pointed and it led me to the room where I had already fought the boss. This time the boss was replaced with another high level enemy and the quest arrow, which was supposed pointing to
Amulet Fragment
, was pointing to the ground along the edge of the room and nothing was there. I don't think there is anything I can do about it. The quest item has vanished from the face of the earth. :(

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

No one can help ? : (
Sucks to buy a game when you have te requiered specs and its still unplayable.
I'm on GTS 250 but I run high/ultra. So it's kinda strange you have to run low and still have low FPS.

Anyway, did you disable MSAA? And the most FPS gain you could gain is turning vsync off. Add iPresentInterval=0 in Skyrim.ini in your My Documents folder (the same line in SkyrimPrefs.ini does nothing).

I use FXAA for the cheap AA.

I'm getting some weird flickering on some of the mountains in distance just outside Whiterun. Anybody run into this issue?

I have the patch that allows the game to see more than 2 GB of RAM, but I had this problem before that.

I had a similar problem; every time I would swing my axe, the game would freeze, and I would have to Task Manager out of it.

Managed to find out that it was my 360 controller that was doing it. Subsequent times I swung my axe for the initial startup of the game lead to it freezing, but unplugging the controller unfroze the game again.

Less annoying, but to truly solve the problem I went to Microsoft's website and downloaded the latest Xbox 360 accessories drivers, and now there are no more freezing problems.

If you're not using a controller, though, then I don't know why it's doing that. Also, you may find that even though you are able to play the game normally, the first time you started the game and had it freeze may have made a duplicate process (TESV.exe) stick around in Task Manager, taking up precious resources.

I HIGHLY recommend you set these settings........

[LOD]
fLODFadeOutMultObjects=50.0000
fLODFadeOutMultItems=50.0000
fLODFadeOutMultActors=50.0000

Editing these in here too from my post further down

[TerrainManager]
fTreeLoadDistance=125000.0000
fBlockMaximumDistance=300000.0000
fBlockLevel1Distance=90000.0000
fBlockLevel0Distance=40000.0000

It's small and subtle but adds more depth to the vistas and further away views. It doesn't hurt performance at all either. You can see little farmer in the distance or the windmills turning farther. And this should help with enemy NPC's, who knows. All these ini changes DO NOT kill performance and add detail to your vistas. Pending you don't have a 5 year old GPU that is.

On a different note, I just tried Nightview (night time vision) for the first time, it's awesome. I have that paired with my main 2 hand weapon now. Can't believe I had it off the whole time.

LiquidMetal14's FINAL (as of 11-19-11) ini settings

Hardware:
2500k @4.55ghz
8GB RAM
6970 2GB @950/1450mhz
Windows 7x64

Using the RadeonPro settings in the OP BUT with 2xSSAA.

SkyrimPrefs.ini

Are these ini settings specifically designed for ultra high end systems like yours?

Someone posted an ini a few pages back that attempted to smooth the framerate in cities like Markarth. It really reduces shadow distance and lighting distance, but nailed the LOD settings so it very subtly fades in. It also has depth of field and blurred shadows, I really really really liked it. Is yours anything like that? Or is it designed to just make the game look its best regardless of framerate?

Some settings aren't. Give it a try, the least you can do. Backup your stuff. I think my shadow distance and such is sort of the happy medium. Distance and detail. I would suggest trying for yourself.

Mind you, the last 2 posts have been adding more detail to the horizon, like NPC's and items and this next one here, trees.....

fTreeLoadDistance=125000.0000
fBlockMaximumDistance=300000.0000
fBlockLevel1Distance=90000.0000
fBlockLevel0Distance=40000.0000

I see trees and little details further with barely any performance loss. I'm talking like 1fps depending on where I'm looking. Combine this with the edits in my last post and you will get more detail and depth in farther away views. It's mainly to add depth and it looks great. Not so barren in the horizon.
