The FFVII franchise (and yes, I mean VII as a franchise all by itself) is one of gaming's most well known franchises. Even if those who aren't FF fans or a JRPG gamers know of Cloud and Sephiroth and they know that
. Fans have been clamoring for a remake ever since the PS3 Tech Demo[/spoiler] back in 2005(!!!). And now its finally happened.
FFVIIR is a long (long long) ways away. From now until release every interview, every screenshot, every trailer is going to dissected, nitpicked, zoomed & enhanced for every single little detail. Fans will be arguing over the color of Cloud's eyes, the size of Tifa's assets, the color scheme of every scene. Every. Single. Detail is going to be scrutinized. Discussions will be emotional, heated, charged because this game means a lot of different things to a lot of different people.
I want to avoid all that. When I boot up Final Fantasy VII Remake
, I want to go in with a clear mind, a clear head. Without the cloud (get it?) of years of heated fan debates hovering over my head.I want to go into this game and experience it as freshly as I possibly could. So I'm preposing the FFVIIR Blackout club. While everyone is aboard the Doom Hype Train, arguing over the inevitable changes that will be made, the Blackout Club is going to be blissfully unaware.
That means
> No more reading interviews
> No watching trailers
> Not even looking at screenshots
From now until the game's release. Barring of course any absolutely crazy news such as transitioning the remake from HD consoles to 3DS or mobile or something insane such as that. I'd say for now its okay to participate in disccusion since there's just about zero information out on this other than the fact that it exists and a few key members of the team, but in the next few weeks I'm personally going to be excusing myself from such threads and going on FULL BLACKOUT mode. This is a once in a lifetime gaming event for this generation. Never again will a game that so many hold so much nostalgia for, a game that many have wanted for a decade now, get remade in such a different environment than it's original release (I see you, Shenmue fans). I sincerely believe this will be the best way to experience the game.
Of course the hype train for this will also be a once in a life time thing so I don't blame those who are and will be aboard for doing so. I'm just not a fan of the scrutinizing and nitpicking that will inevitably (and already has) happen.
If you're down then throw this Black Materia onto your avatar. That way when we see each other on GAF we can knowingly nod and smile to each other through the intertubes, knowing that we will be pure for the coming of the Meteor that will cleanse our souls and make us one with The Lifestream.
