The Game Awards 2016 Thread: Kojima Time Featuring The Kojimas

What Is It?
From The Official Website said:
The Game Awards, created by Geoff Keighley, is an annual awards ceremony to honor outstanding artistic, technical and gameplay achievements in the video game industry. Spanning console, mobile and PC gaming, as well as eSports, The Game Awards is the first of a new breed of award shows, built from the ground up exclusively for global digital and streaming platforms.

Basically, the gaming equivalent of the Oscars, a successor to the Spike Video Game Awards, also hosted by Keighley. Has a counterpart across the pond in the BAFTA Game Awards

The Man, The Myth, The Legend
Geoff Keighley, known to many as the dorito pope, is a journalist and presenter with many years of experience in the industry. He produced and hosted the Spike VGA's that were a predecessor to the current awards, and has covered E3 on multiple occasions in doing so, working for both Comcast and Youtube. The Game Awards are basically his pet project, to help ensure great games get the recognition they deserve.

Why We're Actually Here
Numerous developers and publishers have debuted or shown new trailers for projects at previous game awards, and this year is no different. However, Keighley has promised that the show will 'feature more substance and less sizzle', due to the hype - and subsequent disappointment - surrounding No Man's Sky. What we currently know to expect:
-Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Source: https://twitter.com/NintendoAmerica/status/803376056107417601)
-A Yacht Club Games project, very probably Spectre Knight (Source: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=855791704557873&id=201900969946953)
-Lawbreakers (Source: http://lawbreakers.nexon.net/en/news/article/18840/lawbreakers-at-the-game-awards)
-Prey (Source: https://twitter.com/geoffkeighley/status/803298187033251842)
-Mass Effect: Andromeda (Source at 1:37: https://youtu.be/pyZw_oqk7Q8?t=1m37s)
-Telltale's The Walking Dead: A New Frontier (Source: http://uk.ign.com/articles/2016/11/...eason-3-a-new-frontier-release-date-announced)
-Spider-Man will NOT be part of the proceedings (Source: https://twitter.com/insomniacgames/status/804036168832536576)
-The debut title of developers Phoenix Labs (Source: https://twitter.com/PhoenixLabs/status/804378704306532352)

2am ? looks like Europe can go fuck themselves, it's a bad timing, they need to change that if they want it to be more popular.

Too late for me to watch. That's 2am start and I'm up at 6. Dont know what I expect from this show but death stranding gameplay would be a highlight if it shows up.

It says 1:30 AM on Youtube and I'm GMT, you should probably update the countdown timer OP.

EDIT - Forget what I said, that's the coverage.

Pretty stoked about the live performance from Mick. Bonus that he has Halpern drumming for him. Perfect fit.

And obviously more BotW is a good thing.

Europe probably doesn't matter all that much to their (American) advertisers. Heck, Sony traditionally schedules their E3 conference extremely late as well. Shame there's no European conference anymore.

Where categories are made up, and the hype doesn't matter

That's the Steam Awards description right there

The Game Awards sucks.

I watch it every year.

Ultimately, yes. I watch it for the "world premieres" when I'm suitable bored. I'm not really sure how Award shows can be made more interesting or less messy in their nominations and marketing craziness. At least they tend to be a decent comedy. More award shows should just be a complete joke

I struggle to sit through this every year. So much cringe the entire time, but maybe for a glimpse at a new game do I trudge through everything else.

This goes for most game conferences and interviews, honestly.

Who's the jury? Did they fix the over-presence of men? Is Breitbart still invited like last year?

That's really late. Might be an idea to keep in mind that the world is bigger than the US. If they'd put it during the weekend I might have bothered.

For the many of us who won't be able to stay up and watch this, can we get a link at the top of the OP after it has finished with an archived stream if we want to go in blind?

I'll probably just end up reading GAF and watching the trailers but it'd be nice to have.

I'll try to add one if I'm still awake. Live in the UK myself, but I should be able to spare time for the event.

As for the jury, I actually can't find info on them this year.

I'm hoping for some Quake 2 tunes along with the Doom Soundtrack. I listen to the Doom and Quake soundtracks a lot so hopefully this is cool and gets a bit of time. Pretty cool for Mick and Sonic Mayhem
