A thread for ROM hacks and translations.

This thread is mainly for this AEW hack but it might as well be a general thread instead of just a thread just for that.

Gunhed - Aratanaru Tatakai English Translation

On September 17th, 2019 Filler, MrRichard999, Proveaux, Dr.Floppy, and Cccmar released an English language translation patch for Gunhed: The New Battle (a.k.a. Gunhed: Aratanaru Tatakai ガンヘッド 新たなる戦い) a game originally released for the Nintendo Famicom in 1990.

Gunhed: The New Battle is a strategy game based on the manga by Kia Asamiya and the live-action film of the same name. The game is set on an island which has been taken over by a fully autonomous super-computer called “Kyron”. Lured by the prospect of an energy resource located on the island you race against competing forces to defeat the computer and secure this “super-energy”.

A previous war zone, the island is littered with the wreckage of past battles. You’re able to search the island for parts to upgrade your forces, and usable items which can give you an advantage. According to the readme you “assemble about 30 mechs in order to be able to assault Kyron’s hideout” once you have a mech of a high enough level.

The patch translates the game into English and is fully playable. Further details are available in the readme.

Gunhed: Aratanaru Tatakai is a Strategy game, developed by Toho and published by Varie, which was released in Japan in 1990. This patch translates the game from Japanese into English, and is fully playable. The patch included in this archive is to be applied to a ROM dump of the Nintendo Famicom game “Gunhed: The New Battle” using an appropriate patching program.

Desert Commander

This is a complete translation patch for Tank Commander - Desert Fox, a WWII strategy game where you command the forces of Erwin Rommel in North Africa. It was released in the US as Desert Commander, but in a more generic state.

Streets of Rage 2 - Final Fight Crossover 2019

SPECIAL AIR COMBO EDITION

Hack Author: Dha Lau Hoo

n4i8yKN.gif

This hack is a special edition of “Streets of Rage 2 - Final Fight Crossover 2019″. However, the game play is very different, so it is released as a separate hack.

As the title suggests, players can perform air combos to deliver much more damage to the enemies. However, this lowers the difficulty of the game, so the default difficulty is set to hard.

Special Edition Updates:
  • Air combo is possible. Kick your enemies into the air and punch them as hard as possible! (just like early MK2 and SFA3)
  • The color theme of the player characters becomes more similar to their first appearances in their original games.
  • Default difficulty is changed to hard.
  • Some moves have been modified to fit in the air combo system.
  • Player characters have new animations when they escape from being thrown (up + C).
Previous System Updates:
  • All playable characters can run and change direction and turn around while running (just like Cadillacs & Dinosaurs).
  • All playable characters can jump further while running (just like Cadillacs & Dinosaurs).
  • The command to run (f, f) becomes more sensitive.
  • Players can still move after defeating each boss (just like Cadillacs & Dinosaurs).
  • Offensive Special no longer costs player’s own health.
  • If the player presses A while running, the player’s character will perform Offensive Special (in the original game, nothing will happen).
  • The playable characters will gain approximately half second of invulnerability after then end of a Defensive Special (just like Cadillacs & Dinosaurs).
  • Charge attacks require holding B for only 2/3 second.
Player Move List

Mike Haggar:
  • German Suplex: Grab an enemy from behind and press B
  • Piledriver: Grab an enemy, press C, and then press B quickly.
  • Hammer: Forward, forward, B
  • Sonic Boom: Press BC at the same time
  • Violent Axe: Forward A
  • Spinning Clothesline: A
Cody Travers:
  • Tornado Uppercut: Forward, forward, B
  • Dragon Combo: Hold B for 2/3 second and release
  • Dragon Parry: Press BC at the same time (If he’s attacked by an enemy, Cody will gain approximately half second of invulnerability and counter the enemy using Dragon Combo. If he’s not attacked, Cody will suffer a cool down time.)
  • Rising Dragon Punch: Forward A
  • Tornado Kick: A

Guy of Bushinryu Clan:
  • Bushinryu Air Combo: Forward, forward, B
  • Roundhouse Kick: Hold B for 2/3 second and release
  • Jeet Kune Nunchaku: Press BC at the same time
  • Bushinryu Fireball: Forward A
  • Tornado Kick: A
Xiang, Chun-Li:
  • Rolling Throw: Grab an enemy, press C, and then press B quickly.
  • Back Throw: Grab an enemy from front and press backward B
  • Neck Breaking Kick: Forward, forward, B
  • Qigong Fireball: Hold B for 2/3 second and release
  • Shadowless Kicks: Press BC at the same time
  • Air Rising Kick: Forward A
  • Spinning Bird Kick: A
The sprites were provided by the following artists, and modified by the author to be used in this hack.
  • Mike, Cody, and Guy by T0misaurus
  • Chun-Li by Lord Zymeth
  • Akuma by luis-mortalkombat14 (Special effects by Yawackhary, Cyrus Annihilator, and Croix)

Contra: Hard Corps - IT.GAMER Ultra Hack v2.0

xuEF8nT.gif

And here is the highly anticipated HACK for a mind blowing game from KONAMI games on the SEGA GENESIS. Work on the game was very much, but all in order.
v1
  • When you start the game a little information (thanks Segaman)
  • After the information leaves the 7 heroes of the game (thanks to Ti_)
  • In the menu the default is 10 lives, but it is also possible to choose a maximum of 30 (CONTRA NES Hello and thank you Nemesis_c)
  • From the first gamepad on the main screen work codes: level selection, 70 lives and debugging level (thanks Nemesis_c)
  • The choice of game is given 8 heroes (CONTRA: HARD CORPS + ROBOTRON, thanks Ti_)
  • You can play for the same characters (thanks Nemesis_c)
  • One of the BROWNY robots is repainted in BLUE (painted player, selection icon and in-game icon)! Now two small robots look different
  • The game is now all the characters for 4 HP (LifeBar painted in blue)
  • Getting life points too low. Now you will receive them much more often
  • Absolutely all heroes have now a new set of weapons (thanks Ti_). Something remains, something has changed a lot, but now the sets have a certain essence. Also during the game together weapon damage is reduced by 2 TIMES
  • Weapon damage is low, but balanced. Now enemies and bosses will not quickly kill
  • All except the WOLVES have a low, but a double jump. Also only the BLUE Browny is able to plan. On a motorcycle everything is standard and has a double jump only BLUE Browny
  • All enemies and bosses now have: remade a little behavior, a new amount of HP. The balance of the new left, many lives at all underestimated, because the weapon attack is too low. If a very long time to kill an enemy or boss, so there is a way to kill faster
  • All 12 basic levels are now consistent (thanks Ti_)
  • The entire game passed without a single loss of HP standard gun. Left the game about 1.5-2 hours
v2
  • Fixed enemies on the first three levels
  • All heroes ‘ weapons have been completely fixed
  • Power of weapons has increased, and now the battle go by more quickly

NES Banana Prince translation has been patched with the japanese graphics.

This weird game was only published in Japan and GERMANY! (not even in the rest of Europe). The original KingMike’s translation patched the german version with the modified graphics. This new patch restores the japanese graphics over the translated german version.

I have the Banana Prince rom, always found it weird that it had a German only version. I wasn't aware that the graphics were changed, thank you.

I have a question, is there a site with a list of HD texture packs for N64 and/or PS1 and Saturn?

This Ghostbusters Remastered (NES) hack.
  • Overhauled graphics (99% original. Character sprites and Slimer adapted from The New Ghostbusters 2 on the Famicom).
  • Doubled performance on many sections of the game.
  • Much improved gameplay/controls everywhere.
  • Heavily rebalanced game design.
  • Countless bugs fixed.
  • The Mapper has been modified from 3 to 66 and rom was expanded by 32000 bytes to accommodate the new voice.
It looks really good but, unfortunately, they APPARENTLY screwed the game (even more). I have finished the NES game a few times and this is impossible. You start with $0 and you waste most PK energy getting the main two weapons. And the ghost speed is much higher than the NES version. Maybe i'm missing something but gameplay is really broken.

Edit: Finished. The staircase took me like 100+ tries :messenger_face_steam:

The original community of Nintendo 64 texture packs is this:

There are no Saturn emulators with texture swapping, afaik.

Pretty much the same with Playstation. There is a plugin that allows texture replacement, Blade Arma's gpuBladeSoft, but it doesnt have any texture pack, people barely use it. Afaik the texture replacement feature has been only used by Blade Arma and ... me xD. I made this years ago.

Libretro Team has a bounty for Beetle PSX texture replacement feature so, in the future, we will see Playstation texture packs, probably.

New translations:

Crash Nitro Kart (GBA). Japanese version has been translated using english script from other regions. Why? Because the japanese version has extended music tracks, making music less repetitive.

Metal Gear (MSX2). The game had a western version, but the translation was quite bad and Konami eliminated 69 out of 155 messages from the codec.

Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life (GC). This hack enables same-sex relationships 👌🏻 It basically replaces Mark with Pony from Another Wonderful Life. Models, textures and dialogs have been replaced, and it fixes some spelling/grammar mistakes in the original game.

Remember Ghostbusters Remastered? (three post ago) Here comes the 1.1 version!

Code:
 _____________
| Changelog |
-------------
v 1.1:
  - Added cheat code for easy mode (start with $10k) and easy mode ending. A+B+Start at the title or lyrics screen. A sound cue replaces the Ghostbusters yell, confirming it.
  - Added visual feedback for PKE penalty when a ghost enters the Zuul building.
  - Updated title screen to include "The Real", "Visit" and version number.
  - Code for building infection completely rewritten for stability, realiability and balance.
  - Fixed correlation of blinking buildings and buildings that contain ghosts.
(buildings used to secretly have ghosts and not blink)
  - Slightly reduced ghost speed on higher PKE levels.
  - Can't enter Zuul building just by reaching 9000+ PKE anymore.
  - Fixed fuel barrel hitbox.
  - Better car control.
  - Slightly increased sound generator efficiency.
  - Faster parking on GBHQ.
  - Marshmallow Man's animation speed increased when destroying buildings.
  - Fixed sign graphics for floor 16.
  - Ghosts inside Zuul move a lot faster towards food now.
  - Fixed bug where you could "enter" a road, loading to the gas station.
  - Proper graphics for destroyed buildings after coming back to the city map from another scene.
  - City buildings color coded: purple buildings (non destroyed) can be infected.
  - Some items are now fully refundable.
  - Added "REFUND" subtitle under respective items.
  - Fixed the bug where the game would pause when holding the B button on the map. The unexpected pause looked like a crash.
  - Fixed HUD glitch when reaching the top of Zuul Building.
  - Can no longer enter empty or destroyed buildings.
  - Fixed bug where it wouldn't refuel at the gas station if on zero cash.
It is still a really hard game (if you dont use the $10K cheat) but most problems with 1.0 version have been fixed: barrel hitbox, ghosts speed in city map, faster animations for "cinematics" and many more.

Now it is called The Real Ghostbusters Remastered.

New Dreamcast full-translation: Napple Tale: Arsia in Daydream.

dfYPE2Z.jpg
BtKp5oZ.jpg
SItPC8A.jpg

“This is the story of Porch Arsia, a young girl who was mistakenly taken to the afterlife by a novice spirit guide named Straynap. If Porch is going to leave Napple World, she’ll have to tap into the power of the world’s mysterious residents and collect her six petals. Can Porch gather all of the petals that escaped her body and return to Real World in one piece?

From the team that brought you Terra Phantastica, with a 70+ song soundtrack by legendary composer, Yoko Kanno, and vocal performances by Maaya Sakamoto, welcome to Napple Tale!”

This patch translates the entire game from Japanese to English, and has been confirmed by 5 test players to work from start to finish.

One item drop glitch still remains, but is being worked in and has absolutely minimal impact on gameplay.

New GBA full-translation: Rockman EXE 4.5: Real Operation. This is a big one.

PXWzmi3.png
owDNJ0w.png

This patch fully translates Rockman EXE4.5: Real Operation, also known as Mega Man Battle Network 4.5, into English. All text and images in the game are translated, a number of bugs in the original game have been fixed, and some new features have been added. In addition, this translation patch is able to connect with the English versions of Mega Man Battle Network 4.

This translation is a joint effort by members from Mega Man Battle Network fan community, The Rockman EXE Zone. The game has been localized faithfully to the other official Capcom localizations of the Mega Man Battle Network games at the time. Two versions of the patch are available: a North American version and a European version, featuring different title screens and some minor differences like date/time formats.

The download on Romhacking.net includes just the translation patch itself. A number of extra materials such as the box art, instruction booklet and developer interview have also been localized into English. These can be downloaded from The Rockman EXE Zone website.

Touge R fully translated to english. Another one of those 47 japanese-exclusive games for XBOX.

This is an English translation release for Touge R for the Xbox. Everything has been translated into English except for 3 small screens which confirm a purchase, tire type (GRIP or DRIFT), and the transmission selection between AUTO and MANUAL. These issues should not be critical in playing the game.

If someone is able to extract these graphic areas to be modified please let me know.

Edit: I made a little gameplay.

Christmas time from Gideon Zhi. Another great Aeon Genesis full translation.

Hero Chronicle (Super Robot Wars with JRPG twist) for Super Nintendo.

7OOLacH.gif

Roughly two years ago the project to localize the five main Compati Hero games (SD Great Battle 1-5) began, with the plan being to release all five at the same time. SRW OG: The Moon Dwellers had released earlier that year - in English no less - and SDGB seemed like they would be good/important from a historical perspective. Hero Chronicle joined that list shortly thereafter for its historical importance (recurring dimension-jumper Gilliam Jaeger’s first appearance.) It caps off the project series.

The translation is fully complete and without any known issues.

Super Luigi Sunshine for Gamecube.

The Super Luigi Sunshine mod has been a thing for quite some time, but these was no simple way to get this mod until this xdelta was created.

The mod started by just replacing Mario’s model with the Luigi model from Super Mario 64 DS, but a custom model to fit the Sunshine theme was eventually created along with many other features. In addition to converting these assets into a simple xdelta patch, new features have been added as well, making this the third version of Super Luigi Sunshine.

uaQn8SC.png
Fqrlixg.png

The NPCs now call the player “Luigi.”
The pixelated icon to show where the player is on the map now has Luigi’s palette.
All modders who have worked on this project are credited in-game.
Total features (Excluding the new ones just mentioned):

Mario’s model is changed to Luigi’s model.
The FLUDD has been redesigned to resemble the Poltergust 3000.
The lives hud displays an icon of Luigi’s head with text reading “Luigi” displayed above.
The title screen says “Super Luigi Sunshine.” (After it finishes loading.)
You hear a voice-clip from Luigi when you boot up the game.
What it doesn’t feature (yet):

Luigi still has Mario’s voice.
The players still call the player “Mario” in audio, just not in text.
The intro still says “Nintendo Presents Super Mario Sunshine.”
The Gamecube boot-up still displays the “Super Mario Sunshine” logo.
The Gamecube memory card still displays a picture of Mario’s face for the save file.
The save files in-game still say “Mario.”
The pre-rendered cut-scenes still have Mario.
The FLUDD when not worn on Luigi’s back shows up like it’s original non-Poltergust 3000 counterpart.
The custom hud pictures for the Poltergust 3000 FLUDD haven’t been finished.
Shadow Mario is not replaced with Shadow Luigi.
An icon of Mario’s face is still displayed where the player is on the map of Isle Delfino
The title screen still says “Super Mario Sunshine” until it finishes loading.

NOTE: It only works on Dolphin, it doesnt work on the real console/Wii/WiiU.

PC Doom Total Conversion for Game Boy Advance. This hack swap the original striped-down Jaguar Doom conversion for Game Boy Advance into a fully featured PrBoom port. It lacks multiplayer but it has all the Doom features (untouched maps, better framerate, better sound, original music, etc).

This patch completely converts the game from using the dated stripped down Jaguar Doom engine and instead switches it to a new homebrew port based on doomhack’s PrBoom port to the GBA. Meaning, higher quality sounds, full non-simplified PC Doom maps, better framerate (yes!), graphics and music (far better music, they play in the correct level now!)

The HUD has been changed to match the one from the GBA Doom II PC Conversion pack. Unfortunately this homebrew port doesn’t contain multiplayer.

Super Mario 64 O2 optimizations for Nintendo 64.

FT2mhqM.png
aRouQ1s.png

After Super Mario 64 was finally decompiled back into its source code, it was discovered that Nintendo failed to use the O2 compression method when they compiled the game originally. This knowledge has existed for months, but now there’s a way for anyone to get the benefits of an O2 compressed Super Mario 64 with a simple xdelta patch rather than command line kung-fu in unix.

This patch almost completely erases the lag in Super Mario 64, including the lag caused by the infamous Bowser sub, which now runs at nearly full speed even when the entire sub is in view.

Already mentioned over in the Resetera thread, but the translator got bullied out of making translations for translating a line correctly in Goemon 3. (Which should have been censored for modern times according to SJW's)

Read's pretty hilariously if you ask me.
