I hope the game features some of the tone of the marketing. A Grindhouse bait and switch would be a massive bummer.

The official site says it will.
http://www.sega.com/games/?g=497&v=878

Features

• Pulp Funk Horror
Zombie cool, one of the most popular shooter classics injected with a whole new retro b-movie look.

• An utterly in-your-face zombie-dismembering blast
Non-stop light-gun style action on Wii, blow apart zombies for high-score thrills.

• Superb co-op action on Wii
Bring a friend and play the game as intended in your own buddy action movie as two of the meanest mofos in video gaming.

• Relentless, gore-drenched, over-the-top action
Only the coolest, most cold-hearted agent’s going to keep his head against the zombie flood. Use “Slow-Mofo Time” to make the perfect head-popping shot and “Evil Eye” to spot moments of opportunity that’ll send the whole environment up in flames.

• Wiimote reactions
Get knee-deep in the dead with motion-sensitive Wii-controls. Shuck a shotgun and when the zombies get too close, pistol whip jaws off or cave some heads in with the stock of your pump-action – all in stomach-churning close-up.

Fantastical

Death Prophet
Headstrong is a developer I could get used to. The presentation is incredible. I'm completely sold on this game just from that trailer. Can't wait to see more videos.

True, how was the HotD 2 & 3 Wii?

I loved HotD 2 on Dreamcast, and I never got to play 3. Are they good ports? How are the controls?
everything's great but not pixel-perfect

i'm looking at RE:UC not for a lightgun shooter but as a rail shooter. am i gun be disappointed? :[

I should remind everyone, that Headstrong is not Wii exclusive.

This is their reply to the e-mail I sent to them asking about that:

Headstrong specialises in developing on the Wii platform purely because of our close relations with Nintendo from working with them for past 5-6 years on the battalion Wars franchise.

However Headstrong does also develop on all the major platforms…we just haven’t announced what games they are yet….watch this space!

Thanks,
Sabrina

Sad. :(

Well, at least they specialize in Wii development, so I'm sure the Wii will continue to get their best efforts.

i really liked it (as a co-op game), though i do seem to be in the minority here: there some decent re-style dialog cheese, zombie headshots are eternally satisfying, weapon selection is important, and it's quite lengthy. good fun.

After reading the interview I must say that I am a lot more excited for the game. Will be purchasing this next year.

As a rail shooter, yeah its great. Lots of hidden stuff to find, decent length stages lots of weapons, and intense boss battle senarios. Could have been better, but its not a bad rail shooter by any means.

thanks guys!

Awesome trailer. I'm kinda disappointed wow isn't making this but we'll see how it turns out. Kinda get a Carnevil vibe from it so far.

Just remember that it is NOTHING LIKE regular light-gun games and you'll be fine. I have never played a rail-shooter that required such pixel-perfect accuracy before UC. All regular enemies have a weak 1 shot kill point usually the brain for bi-peds and the eyes for arachnids. Master this and the game is tons of fun. Nothing more satisfying than getting 20 head shots in a row when you have to work so hard to get them.

Where did you get their e-mail address? I need to ask them if HOTD1 will be included as a bonus or something...

How are you going to do this game on non-Wii consoles? Don't lightguns work off of CRT screens (the Wii allows you to play on ANY screen due to the Wiimote and its sensor bar)?

And yeah, Wii = lightgun console has me pretty pumped to get one.

Definitely. If rail shooters are your thing, the Wii is a fine console to have. And the selection is quite good, already. (LCT, Ghost Squad, HotD 2+3, RE:UC) with more on the way.

And wasn't there a WiiWare shooter released recently? Although I heard that it was little more than a glorified version of Wii Play's shooting gallery. >_<

The WiiWare game is that Wild West Guns I think it's called. When I first saw it I was hoping it would be more of a Sunset Riders clone, but alas, no dice. :(

Oh and don't forget Zombie Massacre as another lightgun style game coming to Wii.

Selection is good, and cheap from what I hear. $20 for HotD I saw as a sale price.

Thanks. I'll ask them about putting in the arcade version of HOTD1 as a bonus.

Thanks for your interest!

Headstrong are always looking for ideas to improve our games, and we're happy to take your suggestion. Unfortunately, we cannot confirm or deny gameplay features! Keep reading to find out more as the release date for HOUSE OF THE DEAD: OVERKILL (TM) approaches!

I'd like a graphically redone HotD 1 as an unlockable...but I might get massacred for asking. Really though, it needs it.

Presentation: A+ -- Grindhouse style is awesome and fits well with the campiness of HotD
Gameplay: ????

I really hope they do some cool stuff with this one because HotD is generally boring as hell for me.

They've got two games under their belt, both were moderately well acclaimed--MC 76 and MC 75--and the major failings of each (In BW2's case, gimped online with no options or voice chat, in BW1's case iffy controls, no multiplayer, needed more polish) will be avoided here either by design or in the case of polish by a lengthy dev time.

So what's the problem?

Actually, it's the best thing as a rail shooter - it's deep since you'll need some skill to hit crit shots, which gives you more bonus points to upgrade your weapons.

Lots of breakable object hiding goodies and perhaps some unlockable content.

As a lightgun shooter, though, it's too slow-paced and not as chaotic as the arcade games.

So you'll definitely have fun with it.

What are you talking about the current Sega would have probably ruined the game.
Better be happy Headstrong made it (sorry to say this but its true).

Eh?! Was that a response from an e-mail or something?

That ign interview had lots of good info in it. Game sounds ace. Also seems like the online stuff is still possible. The presentation is great, but no doubt they'll be to stupid to carrier it over to the ads and such.

actually that trailer is perfect for a commercial with a little editing

Actually the only "bad" part of Sega is Sonic Team right now. Other than most Sonic titles, every other Sega game has been good/great.

So it's possible, then. It's not a deal breaker by any means, but it would be icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned.

This looks pretty good. I bought Ghost Squad and HotD2&3 on the Wii for £10 each and had a lot of fun with both of them so I'm up for more lightgun action at the right price.

Where'd you get HOTD2&3 for a tenner mate? I need to pick it up soon.

If the game does in fact feature dual wielding...you know what that REALLY means:

QUAD WIELDING

Or another friend with yet another pair of Perfect Shots. Nyko is going to make a killing...

NumberTwo

Paper or plastic?
Finally something to look foward to on the Wii. I had just put Battalion Wars on my Gamefly queue yesterday, I think i'm beginning to take an interest in these guys.

Kuju is heading this up? Hmm... a little worried.

Better be using Sega's patented Motherfuckin Awesome Calibration® that was used on Ghost Squad and HOTD 2&3.
