The impending onslaught of indie greatness

I was thinking today about just how many potentially great indie games are slated for release sometime before the end of the year. While there hasn't really been much in the way of notable indie releases thus far in 2014 (IMO), it's gonna be crazy when this avalanche hits all in the span of a few months soon.

Here are some of the games that I'm really looking forward to, assuming they don't get delayed:

This is not meant to be a complete list, just a few to get the discussion started. Feel free to mention other upcoming indie releases that you are looking forward to.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth - November 4th

Binding of Isaac in its original form is one of my favorite indie games of all time, and I'm really looking forward to revisiting it in this new iteration on my PS4. Hell, I might even consider getting a Vita to be able to play this on the go along with the other indie greats that have graced the handheld (Spelunky, Rogue Legacy... etc.).

After quite a prolonged development cycle for this type of remake, we're very close to the finish line. November 4th can't come soon enough.

N++ - Coming Soon?

It pains me that we still don't have a release date for Metanet's long-awaited full sequel to one oft the best pure platforming games ever made. Ever since they revealed it for the PS4, I've been eagerly awaiting announcements regarding its projected release date. It's still listed for 2014, so here's hoping that it crosses the finish line before the new year.

Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number - Late 2014/Early 2015

The first Hotline Miami blew me away, and the sequel has been at the top of my radar for a long time now. There's not telling whether or not it'll be finished before the end of the year, but the tiny optimist inside me says that they will get it out the door in time for Christmas. I've been avoiding any footage other than trailers, as I want to come into this game fresh and experience its atmospheric story and pulse-pounding soundtrack without any preconceptions.

Who else is pumped for an indie-tastic end of the year?

Independent developers have been propping up this medium for the last few years. Nothing is impending. All of these games are promising, though.

Impending? I've been caught up in it for a while!

I fully expect to put another couple of hundred hours into Isaac once Rebirth launches. Already have 100 hours spent in vanilla and another 170 in WotL.

Year of indies continues! Hopefully Helldivers and GalakZ make it out this year. Also i disagree at your notable indie part :p PIX THE CAT GOTY.

Oh I agree. I just mean that, after a relative lull, there are going to be a bunch of great indie games releasing within a short span of one another soon.

Honestly while all of those games look great (Hotline especially) they're not what I'd highlight when it comes to the indie scene. There's so much weird, innovative stuff out there that isn't even sequels

It seems to me indies are always involved in an onslaught when your platform of choice is PC. Certainly there's more than a few good games coming up but then again that has been true for the whole year.

Yeah I'm not even sure why I posted that. Just being a dickhead.

Of those three Isaac Rebirth my most anticipated. Isaac is an incredible game despite being flash garbage that barely works right with gamepads. Putting that content into a for real game engine should be a huge upgrade. Not sure about that new music, tho.

Yeah man the indie lineup continues to get better. Just watch one of those montage of indie games from E3 or somewhere, a lot of interesting stuff coming out.

While those games will be great and I'm excited for them, deep down in my heart I know that The Witness is all I really need. Please be 2014. Please be 2014.

Don't care about the first two you listed, I'm mostly waiting for The Witness which I hoped would be out by now.

Impending onslaugh of indie greatness...

Post 3 titles.

Btw, where is affordable space adventures? I though this was supposed to come out in october

The Witness is taking foreeeeeeever. Same with SpyParty and Miegakure, all of which I thought were going to make it out this year.

Sailor's Dream is one to keep an eye out for. From the most consistent indie in the world right now, Simogo. Should be out very late this year, or early next.

For me, it's been a flat year for indies as all of my most anticipated stuff slipped to next year. Usually my year end list is dominated by indies, but right now it only has Transistor (which was pretty huge for me, to be fair), Nidhogg and Jazzpunk on it.

Dungeon of the Endless leaves Early Access 27th October. Quality little game that. 87 hours out into it since i bought it ;d

I feel like half the indie games I'm looking forward to don't even have release dates yet.

The Witness, Ori, Hyper Light Drifter, Rime, Below...

Who knows when these games will arrive.

There are a couple of future indie games that i'm interested but i've no idea if they will come out in 2014 or delayed for 2015.

I'm mainly interested in these:
The Witness (seriously what happened to this game?)

Pavilion

Apotheon
Holy hell these all look awesome, Pavilion especially. I hope the gameplay's there

I ordered an Alienware alpha just for indies. I need more indie games. :)

Looking forward to on PS4:
N++
Hotline MIami 2
Binding of Isaac Rebirth
Jamestown+
Assault Android Cactus
Alienation
The Witness
Samurai Gunn
Nuclear Throne
Rive
Rime
Tomorrow Children
Earth Night
Secret Ponchos
Wild
No Man's Sky
Salt And Sanctuary
Helldivers
Magicka 2
Galak-Z
Hyper Light Drifter
Never Alone

Ton of cool stuff, it's just a bummer that some like Witness and N++ were expected very early this year and it's October now haha.

Eh i would have also put Rime first in my list but i thought this was a thread for indie titles that are supposed to come in 2014. :p
