The Last Guardian Pre-Order Up for PS3 at Portugal Retailer [Image inside]

This backfired terribly for the PS3 in 2007.

It's not like PS3 had troubles because Sony made God of War 2 on PS2 (because that was the only major Sony title that skipped the PS3).
The problem was that neither Sony nor third parties were ready for PS3 development so it took until the end of 2007 to build a decent PS3 lineup.
This won't be the case for PS4 considering that all the biggest publishers are ready to release major games this holiday season. It's not like TLG will change the situation but it would be great if they made a few upcoming PS3 games available as PS4 launch titles as well, that is definetly true.

man, after all the PS4 switch speculation/rumors, announcing for PS3 would be a major buzzkill at this point.

I'm definitely ready to move on to next gen at this point, with The Last of Us and BEYOND being the final threads holding me to the PS3 generation.
I'll still get it, obviously, but bummer if true. :/

Covers are mockups made by the retailer. Probably differs between shops too. What matters here is that they're taking pre-orders, and their track record is pretty good.

This is interesting, in the UK in brick and mortar stores, I'm pretty sure they are only allowed to display games for pre-order when the publisher says so. And the publisher will send the retailer all of the marketing material i.e. box art

Haha believe me I am staggered by the news over last few days regarding TLG. Well I guess its a good old lesson to shut the fuck up to stop you looking like a liar/fool online :(

Well, I still believe you are right, and that these rumours just work with the idea that TLG was announced for the PS3 back in the day.

Will believe it's coming for PS3 when I hear it out of Jack Trettons mouth next week, until then it's a PS4 release for me.

Maybe it would be better to leave those PS4 HD ports for summer. Good 6+ months of sales on PS3 and then 2nd strike with 1080p60 versions.

That's a GREAT way to just piss people off - particularly if you spring the PS4 version on people after they've bought the PS3 version of the game AND bought a PS4 at launch - and those are the kinds of customers Sony is apparently actively trying to court with this launch.

I think it's obvious at this point that Sony has sent PS4 out to die since they're not willing to give it any anticipated software and would rather keep on keeping on with PS3. I'd imagine their exit from the hardware space happens within 18 - 24 months.

Lol yeah, at this point its looking like I will just replace my broken PS3 instead of jumping on PS4. Sony is not making an attractive case for the PS4 when everything people want is coming to PS3.

i'm loving these posts.

This seems like the perfect game to move to next gen so well see what happens. It doesn't have the broad user base like a GT6 or GOW2. It will sell to the hardest of core games and seems like it could be a great fit for being a graphical showcase.

Hopefully by this time next week we will know for certain. (And probably not be able to discuss it because GAF will be in meltdown mode from Monday.)

Well, let us consider things. We know that GT6 is coming for the PS3 this year, and that it will come out for the PS4 as well at some time. TLoU, Puppeteer, etc are definitely coming to the PS3 as well. It looks like "finally" TLG will be rearing its beautiful head.

PS3 has the install base, and I'm pretty sure that Sony isn't worried about driving sales for the PS4 that much. It is going to sell out at launch regardless... So what makes the most business sense especially for a company in financial difficulty?

Look at what Konami did, what Square did, hell what we are now seeing from some Western developers like Lionhead... It makes business sense to lower the price of the PS3, and for these games to release for the platform with the huge install base.

I'm simply hoping my PS3 doesn't die from overuse, and that like GT6 there is a plan for PS4 as well. But if I am objective

FFX/X-2, KH1.5, TLoU, TLG (please!!), Puppeteer are all coming for the PS3 this year. I'm going to NEED my PS3 a little longer unless the PS4 has some announced BC plan, and I'm not getting sucked into a new system for a few games like I did with the PS3. I played a TON of PS2 games at the end of last generation, and I expect the same here

That all goes out the window if TLG is announced for PS4, though. It is a system seller for me

I have to question the sanity of anyone who really thinks that this not being on the ps4 is somehow dooming it. You could probably make a case for Gran Turismo 6 maybe (not really). But this?

what do you mean pass? TLG was always a ps3 title.not like they lied about something.
I'm not disputing that it's "native" to the PS3 or that Sony lied about anything. I'm saying that shouldn't stop them from also allotting resources for a port to PS4. If this had released when it was originally intended to, I wouldn't be saying that. But Sony is in the midst of a generational transition at this point, so I think the expectation should be different for their releases during this time.

Dude...PS4 will be fine. It doesn't need every single game, and the library will be great over time.

What were his comments?

Is the Last Guardian still a PS3 title?

Yoshida: I’m not ready to talk about that … sorry … we’ve broken promises, we are waiting for the right to time reintroduce the Last Guardian. I’m not going to say anything beyond what Ueda-san [lead designer Fumito Ueda] said.

This game was myth status, I'll take any good news/rumors, current gen and all. Bigger issue is how much of a mess this may or may not be after such a long dev time.

ps3 and ps4 is different architecture so people asking for both need to realize it isn't as easy for sony games as it is for 3rd parties who can just port their pc builds.

Here's what Sony Santa Monica said when they were asked about possibly doing a GoW PS3 Collection on the PS4

With high definition remasters of the series already a proven success on PS3, the potential in a deluxe 1080p60 rendition of the God of War series on PS4 is compelling. Kratos' first two outings scaled up remarkably well to 720p and it's easy to see how well the rich detail in current-gen God of War titles would translate at 1080p to the next generation. But would such a port be easy, bearing in mind how closely Sony Santa Monica tailored its code for the PS3's unique architecture?

"It could be done. The PS4 hardware is such a big leap forward in terms of graphics power compared to the PS3 that we probably wouldn't need to go that far. Most if not all of the SPU techniques we developed and used on PS3 were there to reduce the RSX workload. With the PS4 GPU we probably wouldn't need those techniques."

Interesting.

I'm now 99% convinced TLG is a PS3 title, with 50/50 chance of a PS4 port. TLG isn't exactly a system seller though, i doubt it will affect the PS4 launch much.

Yoshida actually acknowledged the possibility of a platform change for TLG. Which is pretty huge for a general interview.
I hope they're ready to make an official annoucement at E3. It's definetly the right time.

Look you desperate techno geeks, the ps4 does not exist to you. So could you please kindly refrain from all this prophetic squawking and stick to your current or outdated consoles. Geez you guys carry on like the betamax people, and they're still claiming mission accomplished.

yea like that game will sell systems. Also they have ps4 titles as well and more to come at e3.

with a system launch, an artsy adventure game with the pedigree of "from the creator of ICO and SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS" could really have a ton of limelight to itself and shine, IMO.

PS4 will have its FPS (Killzone 4), it'll have its racer (Drive Club), it'll have its sports games (Madden)- but I think a game like TLG could have massive shelf appeal for those grabbing the system at launch. It's unique, it represents the kind of ambition that Sony represents, and it's highly anticipated.
Sure, the userbase on PS3 is undeniable- but think how many people could be pushed over the edge to buy a PS4 in the first 3-4 months if TLG is a launch title. That sells systems. That benefits Sony. They get game sales and potentially push hardware sales.

Come October/November/December, hardware sales will be Sony's #1 concentration.

PS4 it is then.

Not to mention that Sony is going to have be rebuilding PS4's Digital library essentially from scratch. This could be a great digital only release for the PS4 during the launch period.

I'm fairly sure I've seen that pre-order boxart this past Christmas at a FNAC store in Porto.
This most likely means nothing

Its a game developed on PS3, no point shoe-horning it onto the PS4 and having people disappointed with the graphics.

I actually like that Sony is the one first-party that has shown support for their old hardware at and after their new systems launch.

Fingers crossed this is true, and far more like SOTC than ICO.

Twilight Princess.

It's been pointed out that those boxes have been sitting there for years. People don't care lol.

If you look at it another way, Sony is still supporting older consoles - which they've always done. God of War II came out on PS2 months after the PS3 release. Same for Okami and a handful of other really remarkable games.

This is why I love owning their consoles.

Sony knows the fanbase for these games: We'll buy it for PS3 and then re buy it 1-2 years later when the PS4 "Remaster" appears. Just like GOW2 and Shadow of the Colossus

Prepare for 25-15fps? :P

Hope not.

I really liked ICO and SoTC when I played the HD collection so Ill get this for sure. PS3 is on fire in 2013!

FNAC Portugal has had Last Guardian pre-order boxes for MONTHS now.

My ultimate dream:

- The Last Guardian will be showed at E3 and will be released for PS3 in fall 2013 with a PS4 version annunced as well coming for mid 2014

- At Tokio Game Show 2013 Sony will reveal a New IP coming from Team Ico set exclusively for PS4 this time with Fumito Ueda "returned" as his official Game Designer role inside Sony Japan

I now... i'm a dreamer... but i can't stop to belive...

PS4 will be fine without this gais. Jus' chill and enjoy the game if it ever actually comes out.

I'm from Portugal, I've seen this placeholder in Fnac stores for aaaages, so I wouldn't put much stock in it.
Edit: I'm not the only one it seems.

Ueda is still the "official" game designer for the game. He's still supervising the team in the same capacity as before. He left Sony to renegotiate his contract and be able to try new things.
