Games like that sell more out the gate but it'll keep selling I think. (I mean in general, in Japan it may not evergreen).

Week 2
03./02. [PS3] Grand Theft Auto V <ACT> (Take-Two Interactive Japan) {2013.10.10} (¥7.770) - 88.219 / 448.334 (-76%)
Week 3
05./03. [PS3] Grand Theft Auto V <ACT> (Take-Two Interactive Japan) {2013.10.10} (¥7.770) - 50.266 / 498.600 (-43%)
I didn't know we were only talking about Japanese sales.

The game is looking front-loaded af worldwide in its first week so far. If you're looking for record breaking numbers, all indications are pointing to the amount of money Sony spent on promoting it.

We see this every game yet see are calling it a "victory." And I just don't get it. With an 80% Drop of 4 Million + in the first 3 days the game is sitting somewhere between 7 and 8 million.

I mean 80% drop of 4 million is still an additional 800K in sales right?

And that's without the holiday sales or the PS5 remaster + Multiplayer. Think about it, TLOU sold 20+ million to date. The sequel moving 7-8 million in it's first two week seems like an incredible feat 🤷‍♂️

Second week of sales in UK

Definitely normal considering high first week sales.

Nothing to see here, just another failed narrative.

Doesn't mean anything without numbers. From one of the posts above TLOU2 sold less than freaking Days Gone in its 2nd week.

I get people not liking it but I don't get this vendetta some people have against it. Why even expend this kind of energy on something you don't like?

Similar happened in UK...but it seems is normal that kind of drop.

Not for Sony 1st party as of the past 3 or so years. GoW4 only had a 36% drop in its second week in UK, and SpiderMan had only a 42% drop 2nd week. FWIW, UC4 is the only other Sony 1st party I can think of that had a similar heavy 2nd week drop in UK (78%), and it totaled out to 8.7 million LTD (that also includes system bundles and copies on sale at large discounts). I dunno if its 2nd week in Japan was nearly as hard as TLOU2's though.

Earlier I said this game could end up doing 5-6 million LTD without heavy discounts and bundling That might have been underselling it, but I honestly don't think that prediction was terribly off. They can maybe get between 7 million and 8 million for LTD but it's kind of clear that a lot of 'normies' aren't necessarily responding well to the game's story (for those who've played it so far), and that goes for streamers who are more or less clean of any politicized controversies. I've seen it myself watching quite a few of said streams, and normies watch those a lot (I hate using the term "normies" btw, but it's just to make a point).

7.5 million LTD, I honestly think that's the upper limit for TLOU2 lifetime sales without heavy padding through console bundles this holiday season. Which Sony may or may not even be able to do because they're shifting their focus over to PS5, clearly (and I don't think PS5s bundled with copies of a PS4 game are going to go over well for people who want PS5 games, just sayin').

Sales of a sequel reflect audience sentiment of the preceding game. Gloating for either team will need to wait 7 more years.

edit : tho thicc has good points.

Actually for japan it sold really well. I wasn’t expecting any of my friend here to get it (in japan is not famous at all) but many of them bought it day one even without playing the first one.

I don't understand those numbers, walk me through how you got to the "between 7 and 8 million" total.

very interesting. What is the source?

Sales of Halo 5: Guardians dropped 78 per cent last week as the sci-fi shooter falls from the top spot to No.4. Assassin’s Creed drops three places to No.5 as sales decline 55 per cent.

Black Ops III holds tight at second place in spite of a 50 per cent drop in sales, while last week’s No.1, Fallout 4, drops to third place as sales decline 80 per cent.

Rockstar/Take 2s GTA V drops to No2 (-83%) but even with such a drop this week 2 number is equivalent to being the 18th biggest week if ranked against week 1 sales of any other games ever released. Microsoft are back in the Top 3 after a 5 week break thanks to Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition, No3 (-2%) and Konami drop 2 places to No4 having debuted last week with Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 (-46%). Sony drop 2 places to No5 with The Last of Us (-41%) and Ubisofts Rayman Legends re-enters the Top 10 thanks to some price promotion, No10 (+34%).

So Japanese saw the game was riddled with western identity politics and stopped buying it, good.
Not exactly as sales is pretty good. The 2nd hand market is flooded with it though kaitori is buying it for 2,800 yen (for reference RE3: 2,600, Sekiro: 3,700, FF7R: 3,800 Persona5R: 4,400).

The Last of Us Part II 25,993
God of War – 29,517
Days Gone - 33,876

Think people are desperate to "prove" that the game is failing when it comes to sales.
Jesus, it sold less than horizon with almost double the player base and people stuck at home because of quarantine with nothing to do? That's crazy.

There's no digital data.

if they're "stuck at home" shouldn't digital sales be much higher?

Uhh... yeah.

BOMBA!

Seriously tho, how big is Japanese market? At least as far as home consoles and AA/AAA hames go? Aren't they mainly interested in mobile gaming?

Stop using the 8.7M LTD figures for Uncharted 4
LTD = life to date
You are spreading mis information on your post.

Seems like there was some kind of "agenda" to this thread 🤔 It's a damn mature game. It doesn't have the most mass market friendly themes.. of course it's going to go down in sales. It's a damn M rated game. The people who actually like this game will stop talking about it long before the ones who hate it. The ones who hate it will just keep talking about it for months and months.

EDIT: I don't anyone will answer this, but WTH is so "woke" about TLOU2? Like honestly, what is it? I'm trying to understand where all this hate is coming from besides not liking where the games story went.

So as I said. The game has the same legs as Uncharted 4. Not Spiderman or God of War. High anticipation and upfront demand. Steep drop.
Numbers for the UK market are similar

Mfers reaching, straining, trying to find some unbiased bad news. WTF cares about Last of Us 2 sales in Japan. Hell I doubt Sony cares. Just take the L and move on.

I see alot of people here yelling the game is dropping fast because of its a western game

Spiderman and God of War says hi

For me this is more of a Druckman effect over TLOU 2 controversy

Japan is not a big fan of woke game

If ps4 buyers had the power and conviction to buy less than 5 million copies, they'd also have the power to force Sony and Microsoft to drop online subscriptions and reduce game prices. A far fetched dream.

Games are always heavily front loaded due to the new thing of everybody preordering, even though a big release has been scarce in almost 2 gens.

While the drop is huge, it’s to be expected. Almost everyone who really wanted the game already has it.

The rest of sales will be from people getting it as gifts, waiting to get paid, or waiting for a price drop now. (Plus bundles, when they come in the Holidays.)

So GTA V dropped even more than TLOU2 and that game is not a failure by any means no matter what you think of it?

Yeah but GTA V sold 11.21 million copies in the first week, i doubt that TLOU2 sell that many copies in their lifetime.

I don't know if this or similar news is a good enough indication. Games usually drop a lot second week.

I am interested to know how it'll sell in the long run though, since word of mouth doesn't seem nowhere near as positive as the last game or a number of other Sony games this gen that ended up being long run big sellers.

I think it will depend on if there is a PS5 version but it's definitely possible that TLOU2 hits 12 million or more.

You really think TLOU Part II is not going to sell more than 11 million copies in its lifetime?

I wouldn't bet on it. It's going to happen.
