The Left 4 Dead thread of information and HOLY CRAP ZOMBIES THEY'RE EVERYWHERE

It's $40 on Amazon with a guarantee on any price drops. I preordered, but will most likely cancel if there is any beta in Oct.

Don't forget that newer video cards have HDMI and TF2 supported X360 gamepad.
Woah...less than that, $37 plus you can get free shipping (maybe a one day sale today?). I'm definitely doing that unless the Steam price is also around $40, but I thought they said it would be full price and 10% off for pre-ordering would still be like $45.

i have an interview coming with the left 4 dead team...PM me any questions you want answered!!
-With all the talk about the AI director dynamically placing enemy spawn points, will community map makers need to do *ANYTHING* for enemy placements? Like, give the game a general point for a *possible* spawn point? Or will the AI Director somehow figure everything out on its own?

-Will L4D be a full-priced $50 game?
-Will the demo on PC be more like the TF2 pre-order beta, containing most of the game content? Or instead will it be a more limited demo available to everyone?
-Will versus mode make it on release or not until after?

I honestly thought L4D was a mod, like how CS was. In that case, carry on.

L4D has nothing to do with Half-Life except that both use the Source Engine, which L4D is using an updated version of.

Not only that, but voice chat is huge too. When you factor in Party mode in the new dashboard update, it'll be an excellent console experience.
You forget the new Steam community update which will make this an excellent PC experience. :D
Which brings me to my question for the interview: how do you plan on keeping the what I'm sure will be a largely overlapping community coming back to both Left 4 Dead and TF2? Will you be spreading out updates to up interest in one one week, than the other the next week or what?

Yeah. PC voice chat, sadly, is far too complicated for even rocket scientists these days. Plus, as usual, a PC mic is exorbitantly priced. Like $300 just because it's for a computer.

New interview with The Gabe
http://www.1up.com/do/feature?cId=3170080

Interview was posted in this thread Orange Box PS3 is pretty much a dead product, confirmed

but some details besides that
Gabe Newell said:
We fully intend to do that with Left 4 Dead as well -- [make] movies about each of the characters and how they came together as a team; what happened with the world when everything became Infected; [and] release new characters, new weapons, new campaigns -- and just view it as an ongoing audience-development content stream.

Just further confirmation :D

My roommate just got back from playing it. He said it was sweet, they had them on like 30" monitors :D He said the co-op was cool and the game as a whole was a lot of fun. Lucky bastard :lol

Some guy at l4d411 apparently shot an e-mail to mike booth and got a response about Steam Oct. 15 preorders and demo before release date. It'll be fun to watch this turn out be wrong... even better if it is true.

Well "The Rumor" is Preorder on 15th, beta on 31st.

If a Halloween beta doesn't happen, I'm telling them they suck for not taking advantage of the perfect setup.
Is it for sure a beta, or actually a demo...as in do you have to pre-order off Steam to get into it or could you just download it either way?

Also, if any one of you tries to steal the Official Thread from Me...........I wont play with you.

I get few opportunity to make threads, so imma make a really bloody one

Well at least for TF2, if you pre-ordered, you got to play the game early. Otherwise, you'd have to wait for release date. Not sure if it will be handled like that though.

I figure thats what they'll do, only reason I ask though is because they did promise a 360 demo, so maybe it'll just be a plain out demo for PC too?

Seems like it'd be consistent, so it sounds logical to me!

I hope, I wouldn't want to give up my $37 Amazon pre-order to get in the beta. Sooo cheap, I love it.
As soon as I rejoiced at getting such a deal I went and blew any savings on a Left 4 Dead poster at the Valve store. Those bastards get me every time!

Official system reqs have apparently been released:

http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?t=147210

* OS: Windows Vista, XP or 2000

* CPU: 3.0 GHz P4, Dual Core 2.0 or AMD64X2 (or higher)

* RAM: 1 GB for XP / 2GB for Vista

* DISC DRIVE: DVD-ROM Drive

* HARD DRIVE: At least 7.5 GB of free space

* VIDEO: Direct X 9 compatible video card (Video card must be 256 MB or more and should be a DirectX 9-compatible with support for pixel shader 2.0)

* SOUND: Direct X9.0c compatible sound card

It's not like the new requirements are high. They're for a mid-range system.

From 2005, before the 360 even came out.

Here are the minimum specs for The Orange Box for comparasion

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 1700 MHz
Video: DirectX 8 compatible graphics card
Ram: 512MB
Free Disk Space: 5GB
OS: Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/Vista

Minimum specs took a jump up with l4d
I'm guessing that its because they don't want people who can't take advantage of the new lighting and such.

Same reqs as posted above, just bigger and a nice pic.:)

New screens by User "wioiw" ovar at 411, he had a chance to play l4d for about an hour. The comp had a 9800GT with only 1 gig ram at 1920*1200 res. He said loading was fast, and game ran smooth throughout.

Check this thread for his entire post.

Just an FYI, but it is NOT 1 gig of system RAM.

He simply has never seen a graphics card loading screen.

What that was, was one gig of VRAM (ie, 1 gig on teh graphics card).

I would estimate that the system itself had probably 2-4 gigs of system RAM.

i barely meet those specs :(
i don't think i even meet the cpu spec. i have an amd 64 3500+, is that good enough?
