The Left 4 Dead thread of information and HOLY CRAP ZOMBIES THEY'RE EVERYWHERE

They've never announced anything regardling split-screen for the 360 version that said 4-player. The only thing they've said is 2-player.

We've known about 2p local splitscreen for a while now, but the recent confirmation of Live (with one guest) 2p splitscreen has been awesome awesome news. This will bring my enjoyment of the game up a couple of notches.

Wow, a game, with zombies.
Was this REALLY necessary? Anyways, it's not just a game with zombies, it's an AMAZING and EPIC game with zombies which is gonna be really good.

EDIT: oh wait, you're a junior.... makes sense.

Man I hope DLC support for this game is better than what Valve has done with the Orange Box (specifically TF2) for the 360..

If it is, I'll probably buy both versions.. It's looking to be that good :D

So say if your playing with a friend and just that friend..does the other 2 characters become AI controlled?

does this include grenades?
There's already a pipe bomb in the game. It originally functioned as a regular grenade, which didn't work very well. So now it has a high-pitched noise that attracts zombies to it, and then it finally explodes when they're all bunched up. It's glorious!

So I was wondering about actual pricing and system specs.

I don't know if I should get this game at launch (valve 10% off at launch) or wait for hopping mad post-thanksgiving purchase at retail. Latest report pins the price down $50 steamed, just like OB. Kind of makes sense since X360 prices are usually $60. Still an amazing value.

The reqs are close to OB while embracing more of the multicore love. My computer is not going to like the post-processing and rain effects. 2 gigs of RAM and 8600 GTS, but my processor is an athlon64 939pin 3500+ single core. Think the rain utilizes multicore, so I won't be seeing that running til my next rig in a couple of years. I promised I wouldn't be a graphics whore. now look at me. LOOK AT ME. :lol

edit: I forgot that multi-core will give you jiggly boomer bellies and natural looking material physics.

Getting the Steam version is a given... to me Valve games are essential, it's like having Windows on your machine.

The only question is whether to also get the 360 version also, in order to experience the game on my home theater, with my XBL friends, and split screen.

What are the specs? My PC runs TF2 quite well but it is 4 years+ old. It is a P4 with 2 GB of RAM and a 256MB Radeon X800 XT.

Very cool. Seems like this game will have tons of these little memorable bits sprinkled throughout each time you play.

I feel like the AI director is what will make this game from a merely good game to a modern day masterpiece. I've seen videos of this level (street->subway) that have no zombies on it at all... just unsettling silence and occasional zombie screams in the distance. The replayability and the interactions between the players are just going to work together in so many neat ways.

We're closing in... just a little longer.

Wondering how my Sony VGN-FZ290 laptop will handle this. Has a Intel Core 2 duo 2.2 Ghz processor, 2 gigs of RAM, Vista 32-bit, and a NVidia 9600m GT card. I know I won't be able to max out everything, just curious if I'll be able to run everything at low-medium settings.

Runs TF2 just fine, not at max settings, but most settings on medium or high.

If you ran Orange Box fine, L4D should be no problem at all. It's using the Orange Box engine which is pretty much an incremental upgrade to the Source engine. We'll bask in zombie innards at a steady framerate and good fidelity while stealing healthpacks. :D

It's Valve, it will be fine.

This will be my personal GOTG. You can NEVER go wrong when a AAA developer makes a Zombie shootin game. This should be a new category of shooter so as to revitalize the ridiculously stagnated FPS genre.

I just wanted to note how much fun I had with this game at PAX. Though I played for less than 10 minutes it was the best co-op experience I've had to date!

Day-f'ing-1

PC: slightly enhanced graphics, slightly better controls, probably more players, mods, mods, and more mods!
360: 2 player split-screen, less compatibility concerns, might be more expensive.

Decisions, Decisions.

Yeah, I'll be getting two copies of this. PC is my native soil, and 360 for the stupid head friends who don't play on PC because they have dumb faces.

The split-screen support really surprised me. I wonder how hard it would be to implement something like that into the PC version. But "slightly better controls"? *Remembers friend trying to play Crysis with 360 controller 2 days ago* :lol

Ditto

Developer interview and preview, but tidbit of supreme happiness.

"He explained that, since Left 4 Dead's action is so heavily focused on the cooperative experience, they wanted to make it easy for friends to find each other online, both on Xbox Live and Steam. Both versions of the game will feature a built-in friends list in the main menu that will tell you what sort of matches each of your buddies is currently in. If they have a free slot open in their match, you'll be able to hop right in at any time, replacing whichever character is bot-controlled at the time. You'll also have the option of partying up with your friends and searching for maps, as well as hopping online with a friend who's playing splitscreen with you, regardless of whether or not they have an Xbox Live Gold account."

Holy hell I see this taking some serious cake over the holidays sales. Word of mouth is gonna be excellent. And splitscreen with errbody? :D

Iffy that it will run at medium IMO. The only laptop cards that are worth anything are the highend ones.

The GAF Steam group better be all over this shit. Day 1 here, but I call dibs on the vet so I can talk old-timey on chat/vent. :D

So let me get this straight if your friend has Live gold or not you can play this in splitscreen over Live regardless? Or are they talking local co-op there?

ahhhh the source engine.. still looks beautiful and is guaranteed to run on most hardware. love you valve.:D

Yes.

Just like Halo with guests and all I'd imagine the player list will look like this:

Jtyettis
Jtyettis(1)
Yo_Mamma939
xDEATHMANx
