The Legend of Legacy (3DS) announced [JRPG, SaGa & ex-S-E staff, MASASHI HAMAUZU]

Is that a playable Frog? In a JRPG?

Oh, my stars, preordering the second we get a localisation confirmation on the Chrono Trigger Flashbacks ALONE.

Shame about the name though. Couldn't be more generic sounding if it tried..

Well, if you cross off S-E and XSEED, who else is there?

Atlus? Not impossible, I suppose.

Aksys? They probably have enough on their plate as it is.

NIS? Do they even care about 3DS?

Rising Star Games? They seem reliant on hand-me-downs from NA publishers at this point.

Natsume? A lot of their localisations come out of left field, but most of their established partners go way back, so...
I wouldn't be surprised that if it came out it was still XSEED. Sounds like whatever's going on with FuRyu is a fundamental problem that will get in the way of working with others and possibly agitate them more, but then again they could shape themselves up for this, especially if they've been growing/became more experienced and will be better about the localization work on their end.

Also I do wonder how much of it is NIS just not getting good opportunities for localization on 3DS or whatever. I would be surprised if they had a serious aversion to releasing there, and if they do it's most likely rooted in either their base or the games their base wants being more firmly established on PlayStation platforms. Which seems a problem for development, but not necessarily localization.

EDIT: Of course, it WOULD figure if we fail to get some Japanese games from ex-SE and whoeverelse staff just because they went to work for developers/publishers that were pains in the ass about having any of their stuff leave Japan.

I'm still miffed we missed out on some of the 3DS' smaller RPG's, such as:

Class of Heroes 3D (got ported later to PSP as Class of Heroes Final or something)
Beyond the Labyrinth
Elminage Gothic 3D Remix (also on PSP)
Exstetra (also on Vita but clearly looks like a 3DS-made game)
Unchained Blades Exxiv (also on PSP)

And ones based on popular and semi-popular IP's:

Dragon Quest ANYTHING
Digimon World: Re:digitize Decode (also on PSP with far less content)
Tales of the World: Reve Unitia (Baba says no plans, figures...)

Yeah 3DS retail RPG's are few and far between. :/

Sonic: Come on! STEP IT UP!

LOL Beyond the Beyond.

A SaGa game but with a stupid name and good music? It's like porn with ugly people, iffy but still can get the job done.

I don't like the chibi art style, but day one if it's localized.

Oh yeah the name makes no sense.

Yes it does.

Legacy is a synonym for Saga. Or perhaps Legend?

Bonus points for "Legend" and the English subtitle being perhaps a shout out to Final Fantasy Legend / a hint that they plan on bringing this Westward.

Whoa, it just clicked that the guy who did the logo design for the game is the same Tadahiko Kawaguchi who was formally at Namco. He was the director/art director for Seven and Venus & Braves. No wonder the logo looked so familiar. Too bad he doesn't make games anymore. He just seems to write music and do artwork these days.

I'm really liking this trend. If the big guys are too paralyzed or just don't care about making good, smaller games under their old IPs, original staff can definitely make a better game than no game at all.

The game is confirmed to be developed by Cattle Call, who also worked on the Metal Max games on DS, as well as Metal Max 4 on 3DS. They also worked with ArtePiazza on the DQ remakes on DS as well as Opoona on Wii.

So its not Greezo, right?

Nah, I assume like everyone else that they're on Majora's Mask 3D. Would've been awesome though if they were the developer of this. :p

Also my main guess was Racjin for having worked on the SaGa remakes on DS and have made loads of licensed games on 3DS so they certainly know the hardware.

God dammit, where's Vivid? Haha
I actually noticed this *right away* when I posted on the RPGfan topic

Honestly, with that, consider my interest in an art book a guaranteed sale if one's released.
I consider Venus & Braves one of the saddest things we've had to miss out on. Graphically and artistically, it's a vision.

Is Japan even able to make character models that aren't chibi or moe?
Non the less if the gameplay's good, I'll get it if it gets localized.

Wow! How did I miss this? Come to America please :(

EDIT: This is definitely a SaGa game. I've been needing something new to replace Minstrel Song.

Wow I had assumed they closed after the PS2 era.... I loved Arc the Lad: ToS and Tsugunai was a pretty decent RPG.

This game is looking better and better.

The pop-up style of the field is really striking and looks neat at first glance. But I wonder if it would aggravate me after awhile. I think the way you can't see the whole field at once would give me pretty bad tunnel vision after awhile.

The game already entered in Amazon Top 25.

Nice. Hope this game being succesful, will allow us to get this game.^_^

We need more SaGa goodness for sure.

No wonder this game looks really nice and kinda polished. The fact that Cattle being its developer also ease my heart here. I really like Metal Max 4 here.^_^

Can you give impressions of MM4? It looks really bad as an outside observer.

Well, I kinda be a bit biased here as I am a grinding junkies lol. But I would say even with the graphics being quite bad, the customization Super Dinosaurs tank which breath Fire or Rhino Tank which spams missiles is both epic and funny to see. The unique and crazy character is also nice even though my Japanese skills is a bit bad. The music and of course the thing most important for my all fav is the locals, and the world and the quirky environment.

All in all, I would said, this game is a great game which is why I am still sad that no one even tried to bring this game outside+ the game does not do so well even after showing out on Ninty Direct.

The fact that many other Gaffers and Jrpg fans does not seems to know or praise this game also break my heart.T_T

I also have MM4. I haven't finished it yet (actually, reading this thread is making me want to go back to it), but it's certainly a good JRPG from what I have played.
