While a little artistically wanting in close-ups, man, these classic Zeldas sure clean up nice.

Maybe a little something for Grezzo to look into, now that LA has wrapped, Nintendo.

im playing through ALTTP past now, and it's definitely got a lot of charm. not sure it needs a remake tho.

the new Link's Awakening remake looks really cool IMO far more impressive than this. Nintendo really nails art design. this is good tho. but i mean, they are dropping the real thing in a few weeks, this can't be anything more than a cool proof of concept.

Tattletale basement dwelling Dorito eating Hentai tentacle cosplay porn watching Reddit edgelord neckbeards calling Nintendo in 3...2...
Happens every single time. Why do these people keep announcing cool shit so early in development? Its almost as if theyre trying to get nintendo to give them the dickens.

You don’t know what janky means.
I do know. It controls like ass and the game features some heavy sprite lag. It's one of my favorite Zelda games of all time and I have a tattoo inspired by it. I love it, but it needed a remake more than any other Zelda probably.

I think I'd prefer this to the Link's Awakening remake--not because LttP is better, as I firmly believe that LA is the vastly greater game, but because I prefer the pixel perfection of the classic LA but always found something a bit off about the wide spaces of LttP, which would actually benefit from a remake.

I was a kid when ALTTP came out, and the visuals and colors feel like magic to me. It's by far my favorite Zelda, probably for that reason.

A good example of jank would be comparing street fighter 1 to street fighter 2.
Links awakening is not jankey.

Just hold the announcement until its ready to release, that way it'll be on the internet forever

I think LA controls poorly. Not that ALTTP is perfect, but it's definitely smoother. You can get used to the controls and LA isn't such an extreme example of jank as SF 1, but it definitely felt like it needed a remake.

LA in my mind controls as well if not better. Link has a satisfyingly lag-free sword swing that you can just spam.

If Nintendo were smart, they would seek out the creator, hire them to finish the project and release it for $60 on Switch.

Different strokes and all. It may be my memory playing tricks on me, but I think the Oracle games also controlled just a bit better than LA.

This guy has no secret ability that Nintendo needs. This is not a situation like Sonic Team which needed outside help to make a decent Sonic title.

Nintendo could have done it on Gamecube if they wanted to. The problem isn't finding talent, the problem is simply deciding to make it happen.

They have a very weird relationship with their back catalog. They monetize it while also CAREFULLY guarding it at the same time. It's like Disney's "vault".

I don't know man, the original ALTTP is still very playable. LA is janky as fuck.
I agree. LTTP is well enough in its current state. LA needs a remake badly. The most recent iteration is on Game Boy Color.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head. Sometimes the problem with Nintendo's back catalog is that the games are somehow too good, which means that the product is so good as-is that it stands to compete with current products being released to market. I would venture to argue that this is one of the reasons why it has taken them almost 3 years to make their SNES games available. As examples, I would say that LttP and SMW2 are games that are good enough by today's standards... crap, I actually think they're better games than a lot of what's being released!

I also wanted to chime in to say that the problem with a remake or remaster of LttP is also a kind of problem that quite a few of us ran into with A Link Between Worlds. I've played LttP to an extent that I remember way too much about the game and its world. I LOOOOVE LttP, but to play it now is almost a chore. I could write a numbered list of tasks to beat the game... off the top of my head. We would even skip retrieving the master sword just for giggles, and it would still just be a chore.

LA's engine was good enough to be reused again eight years afters its release for the Oracle games with hardly any additional polish. ALttP has the issue of having less attack range if you attack north versus south. This is especially painful with the hammer.

This.

Also, love the Guadia Quest avatar dude.

The already awesome ALBW would have been a bit better with the Roc's Feather too. The game's sense of verticality would have put it to good use even only in combat situations.

Very true, but he's already done the majority of the work which means it would cost next to nothing to make a lot of money off it.

I still disagree.

I think that if this were an actual game intending to ultimately be played, you'd find in reality that this guy has hardly scratched the surface of the work necessary. If he were contracted to do it alone, it would probably takes years and years of hard work to result in an actual game, if he ever actually managed to complete it all by himself.

Nintendo has the resources to make this without even making a big deal about it. This is not about the expense of making the game, Nintendo could release their entire first-party SNES catalog in HD, 3D graphics in a year with budgets that are tiny compared to how much they would sell, which is gangbusters.

This is IP management. Nintendo doesn't want you to buy a definitive version of this game. They want you to buy it on on Wii, then WiiU, then buy an SNES Classic, then pay for subscription access on Switch, ad nauseum. They want to guard and monetize their stable of classics, not let you buy it only one more time and be done with it.

If I could buy a retail Switch version of Yoshi's Island, that was exactly the same as the SNES version, I would for sixty dollars. It's a game I want on both a modern system with good controller AND handheld version. I would literally never think about buying another copy of Yoshi's Island for the rest of my life.

NINTENDO IS TERRIFIED OF THIS.
