The cost of the game is like the frame rate, it will drop from 60 to 30 soon enough.
Unfortunately, since it’s Nintendo, it’ll drop to $50 max and probably stay full price for a while. I have it coming from GameFly though so I’m excited to give it a whirl.

This game is great so far, but holy shit the dungeon creator is abysmal. If you're going to have user generated content in a game, you need to provide more in-depth tools. What we have now is a joke, and it wont see any kind of long term user support. Also, you can't share dungeons online for some reason. It feels like they put it in just to check a box.

The game is great except for this one aspect. It's good to finally be able to play it. It's the only 2D/handheld Zelda I never got to play, and Link to the Past is the first video game I ever played. I had no idea this was supposed to be a continuation of it. Fkn awesome.

I'm liking the chamber dungeon idea, and I'm having a blast creating my own dungeons! It's really fun putting my own little flair to a classic game. I like chaining rooms of mini bosses together, though I wish I could make the enemies more difficult.

Which brings me to my next point on the dungeon maker, I find it a bit disappointing how limited you are in your options in building a custom dungeon. Though I haven't unlocked everything so maybe I'm wrong, but you can't put out specific item drops, connect specific stairs/passage ways (it decides what to connect seemingly), no uniform theme, no specific enemy or obstacle placement (all of the tiles are preset and unchangable). It's certainly lacking, but it does work and let's me be a bit creative.

This makes me want a full fledged zelda maker game.

Its a cool 3 hours of fun then you won't touch it.
All i see is content ripped from better dungeons from the real game sadly.

The idea is fun tho.
But typical nintendo 1 step forward 2 backwards

It is very bare, but it's a start and you can do a little (not alot) with it. I just want a zelda maker within a similar vein of mario maker. Being able to actually make a dungeon instead of rearranging one would be hecka awesome.

Regarding Nintendo patching their games, how soon are they on it. Im thinking should I wait and hope for a stable framerate patch or just go for it?

For those that finished the game already, how long is the game if you want to do 100% completion? Thanks.

I spent maybe 22~24 hours on it, but I didn't quite 100% the game. There was a heart container or two that I didn't get and I didn't do all of the Dampe challenges. I did get all of the sea shells, did all trading, got the boomerang, and all of the Mabe village statues (including Bow Wow).

It’s been a couple of days now and the newness has worn off but now this new version feels like it was always like this!

I have a feeling they won’t completely fix the issue.

Honestly for me it’s not even an issue. It dips a little when going from different areas then smooths out again in 2 seconds. Goponga swamp it slows down. Not a big deal. The game wouldn’t be the same at 30 it’s nice and smooth the majority of the time.

The issue is entirely overblown.

I would stress more that it is a really faithful remake of a gameboy game that is full price and anyone unsure if they want the game should consider that aspect of it more so than the performance “issue”.

The game is magical, an absolute classic.

I'm really enjoying the game. It's been so long since I played the original, it's like a whole new game to me right now. Performance is ROUGH though, even 100% in docked mode. As some have said, I'd vastly prefer locked 30 than what we got. Exiting buildings is the worst.

I was also a bit bummed to find out that there is no Master Sword in the game. I know you can get the one with the seashells, but it's just not the same.

Well it doesn't take place in hyrule or have anything to do with the triforce. I don't really see why the lack of that particular item is a bad thing.

just made my way to the desert, had to track down Marin first, which was a nice side adventure where i discovered a whole lot of shells and hearts and other secrets along the way. the story stuff in this is really wonderful. i love it. the design is very well done and efficient: the map kind of unlocks like a Metroidvania, through item unlocks, as well as story. the story stuff is cool and u are never lost for what to do next, even tho it really switches up the fetch quests.

i think i like this more than ALTTP, and i grew up with that one!

I like how when you are escorting Marin and you throw a pot she calls Link a bad boy lol

The music in the mysterious forest is so effing gangsta too

This game is so fucking good. I am in dungeon 6 now, and I am ready to declare this not just the best remake ever, but also the best 2D Zelda and one of the Top 3 Zeldas along with OoT and BotW.

The real surprise is how much better this game is than LttP that I had considered to be the pinnacle. The world in LA is much richer, the game has substantial QoL imprivements over LttP, the variety and memorability of NPCs is on a different level, but most importantly, the game has an insane amount of subsystems and minigames to keep you playing, And as a bonus, it has this inexplicable feel good factor, it feels chill to play.

what an absolute masterpiece.

I'm loving this so far but the FPS drops are really starting to get to me. I hope this can be patched? I play in handheld mode.

yes! so otm. i agree with all of this. ALTTP was my first Zelda i ever beat, and I loved it so much. but this is a really special game. it really feels like an HD sequel to that game, with all the old systems, the enemies and items, but implemented with a much better story and with far better pacing. once you are in the dark world in that game, you kind of just go to one dungeon after the other. this game has you talking to people, going on side quests, exploring the world a little bit more. ah it's so good. if they patch the framerate i'd rate this a 10/10. unpatched i'd give it 9/10.

Still loving these dungeons. They are really well done, and all look pretty different from one another. The desert one is really cool, with the purple crystals and the hookshot. It is very fun to swim in the underground sideways areas and attack fish and squids and goombas w your sword 🖤

The 7th dungeon was a royal pain in the ass. Just wanted to drop this here. Had to resort to walkthrough because I simply lost the patience.

Aside from that the game is great but it doesn’t blow me away like AlbW did. Guess it’s due to it being only a Remake and all. It’s a shame about the framerate but the art style is one of the cutest I have ever seen. Playing this game at night in HH mode and it’s just a marvel to look at. Can’t get enough of it.

Where do you even get all the statues in the game? I only got the first one of Yoshi from the shop.

Eagle's Tower was always a bit of a pain with the switches and positioning the wrecking ball to the correct spaces to knock down the pillars. It just requires trial and error, but you have to do some backtracking to get caught up.

You get the statues from the crane minigame. They are just little replicas of mario enemies that you can place around Mabe village. You don't really get anything major for collecting all of them except you get a chamber dungeon piece and the crane shop owner says you only have to pay 5 rupees instead of 10 for the game from now on.

Could not care less. The 1 minute joy I get doesn't make up for the endless backtracking and searching. I have no regrets.

I crushed the first 3 pillars on my own and caved on the forth for the most stupid reason… I forgot that I can grapple across the pit with the rope. 🤦‍♂️

Really? I only had Yoshi in the crane minigame. There was no other status on any of my later visists to the shop. Do I have to clear the available items first to make them appear?

You either need to capture yoshi and the secret seashell or just Yoshi, then re-enter the building. I did both in one shot so I'm not sure which one is required. Afterwards, the caiocaio doll shows up. You _may_ have to give Yoshi to the lady in the two-door house at the top of the village to get the doll to show up, too.

Ah this game just feels so good to play! Every action, just running around, jumping and slashing at enemies, or disarming them w the hookshot, it is super enjoyable gameplay👍

For real I am seriously enjoying this more than ALTTP. That is no small feat. Well done!

Dang this story is great. Very reminiscent of the Red King from Through the Looking Glass.

For once the dialog isn’t describing some arcane fantasy lineage, it is it is poetic, William Blake style romanticism. The story is a mystery, like the great tales of classic fantasy. This game is a true classic.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
The boomerang in this game is entirely too overpowered, especially once you get the hang of using it correctly.

Stunning an enemy while doing a point of damage at the same time? The only thing more powerful is the Lvl2 sword, but it doesn't stun.

Finished it a couple of days ago. Great game, not my favourite Zelda, though. Over too soon. I could have happily played it for another week.

Hey, I just fired up the game and was questing around the first village. The Bow & Arrow Set is 980 rupees. I can grind the mini game for it, but is it worth it?

Money is pretty easy to acquire in this game, especially later on when other parts of the map are unlocked. I guess you could grind to earn enough to get them early but it's not really worth it as it's not a progression item you could use to unlock new areas early.

If you really wanted it early, you could always just steal it.

You shouldn't need to do any grinding at all for the bow what so ever. In the third dungeon there's a yellow rupee worth 300. There's a silver rupee worth 100 in the dream shrine. Couple that with some purps you should find exploring there should be more than enough.

So pure note for note remake of DX?

Not worth it if you want something new from it outside of art?

Kinda but no. Some items are bound to set buttons now so you don’t need to keep swapping so much.

There are a bunch of differences but a big one would be some of the enemies behave different.

some move and attack you now, where if I remember correct they would just charge at you before, if that. Now some you require the shield to take them out head on.

Can shoot arrows diagonally as well, I don’t remember being able to do that.

Some of the text has changed, sometimes referencing the fact that so much time has passed since the original which is awesome.

There are bound to be tons more examples but in general it’s really really faithful.

Thanks. :)

Sounds like the updated the quality of life stuff and improved / updated things so the basics would at least feel fresh. I hear there's a hero mode too. Guessing that's simply tougher enemies.

In the hero mode, hearts aren't dropped by enemies or found in bushes and stuff. You have to rely on the fairy fountains or buying the hearts outright in the shop, beating a dungeon (which automatically refills your hearts), or finding 4 heart containers (which also automatically refills your hearts).
