USB-C to Lightning exists.

Those are male to male, so it wouldn't work.

I'm not worried about the lack of a 3.5mm connector. There will likely be a lightning to 3.5mm adapter for phones.

For MacBooks, I wouldn't worry. The current MacBook still has a 3.5mm connector.

Assuming USB C becomes the only connector, a 3.5mm connector will probably be added to the multi-adapter.

I don't agree that it's outright awful, HOWEVER I do agree that apple needs to account for this or it will be awful.

The only acceptable solution, IMO, is include a little bluetooth dongle that turns any standard set of headphones into BT headphones.
