They took it out ? Link ?

I mean, it was never supposed to be a feature per se, it was only an easter egg, like the hidden thing you can only use if you know about it.

I guess they just couldn't say "hey hey look it has head tracking" on the back of the box without selling it with IR glasses or another proper way to use it.

You just can't say in the game manual "well, put a wii remote under your TV and stick the sensor bar to your head with some duct tape" (because yeah, that's how it's done).

From the Stiq of Joy. Maybe not the most reliable source ever, but given that Johnny Lee has also confirmed it I'm saying this is "true". :( Stupid EA.

No shit. There has been zero promotion for the game beyond showings at a couple of things like Nintendo's press event. Does nobody advertise any more?

I know it's been getting a lot of hype from previewers/reviewers but the total lack of marketing and early reviews has me at least suspicious enough to wait a few days before picking it up.

By the way, I don't know if anyone else has checked out the Boom Blox website, it has a couple of nifty trailers and some explanation of blocks and characters. Nothing amazing, but when you're as hyped as me... well, I've looked at everything there is to look at for this game :lol

Quote from that interview:

I have been talking to some Wii game developers and they've said that ... if a game requires too much motion or requires ... they had some word for it, but essentially, if it requires too much movement on the player's part, Nintendo asks them to pull it. There are all these internal guidelines they have to conform to that prevent them from doing anything too -- I hate using the term "outside the box," but this is a box that has been defined by Nintendo and they literally can't step out of it.

What the hell?

Wut ?

Even if true, then the head tracking functionnality in Bloom Blox doesn't even qualify as "having the player move too much".
Playing WiiFit is more of a workout than moving around slowly to see what's happening in the corners of the field.

I sincerely hope they left it in and some Action Replay / stuff like that can let access to it.

You know, like hot coffee, only without the scandal.

It's just anothe part of the interview, he wasn't allowed to say the real reason EA isn't putting it in.

So nintendo is asking developers to cut back on extraneous waggle? I support this. God bless them. I like motion control as long as Im not throwing my shoulder out or getting wrist fatique. (Battle of the bands is quilty of this)

IGN Voice Chat confirmed that the reviews are embargoed until tomorrow :-\ So, yeah...

How could you support that? If it's implemented well, then I would support exaggerated movements.

Edit: And a Game l Life episode.

shit I still have to save up for Mario Kart and Wii Fit first, but this is on my buy list for sure.
Actually I might get this first and buy MK and wii Fit later since they will be widely available.

I think it would be nice to have the choice. I already have Popeye wrists from playing with my Wii so much.

Probably could have just thought that...

Probably 69 or 79.

Haven't seen it in the new catalogues though. You sure it came out?

Nah, just going off the IGN AU release list, which is probably wrong...

I'd really like it to be $40 but up to $60 is ok I guess...

Hopefully my copy shows up tomorrow. I'm not even sure what to expect from the game. I just thought the screens I've seen so far looked good.

Read the review. Seems like a good game. Have to much to play right now but will pick this up later on.

Creating your own levels seems alot of fun.

Based on what I've seen and played, this is going to be the TrackMania of block-busting puzzle games. Well, except for the online racing part. You can still download puzzles, though!

Where are the rest of the reviews for this game? The embargo has to be up by now right? Now that it particularly matters I'll be picking it up this afternoon, just curios.

Here's my review: the game is incredibly mind blowing until you have to throw bombs at raccoons or hit a block with a hose and you start to wonder if the rest of the game was just a fluke with design decisions like this.

I still like the early levels though.

Well depending where you are it's either early or very early in North America, where most of the videogame press is at. Plus, this is hardly a huge, established game that sites are going to be rushing the review out for.

We do need confirmation on the SD card stuff though, dammit!

And some of you will no doubt be playing this today :( I hate you.

Dude, throwing bombs at raccoons sounds awesome.

Ah, seems pretty solid. I'm also in the wish-it-was-30/40 camp now though. Just seems odd to pay 50 for this.

I don't think you're allowed to complain about pricing. Steven Speilberg needs support, he is a fledgling developer.

That's a good point. Although my desire to support indie development is counterbalanced by the fierce nationalism Europe not getting screwed on this game's pricing has ignited within me. U-S-A! U-S-A!

I've written the first impressions for Pulsa Start (in spanish). Here they are: http://www.pulsastart.es/2008/05/bloom-blox-primeras-impresiones/

Summary:
- EA+steven spielberg in a videogame doesn't mean shit, for once. ALl the opposite, it's a very creative concept.
- Diferent modes and gameplay variants.
- Some levels have you pulling blocks, other have you trying to tear down all the blocks with the minimun shots. Other have you trying to tear down selected blocks.
- Controls work very well. Only complaints are the super sensitive pointer and thnot being able to zoom in and out.
- Modes are different too. Adventiure and arcade modes look the same at first glance, but they're played diferently.
- Editor mode works great, although the sharing system is quite limited.
- Overall it feels good and fresh. It looks like it will be a quality title in the end.

The Game|Life stuff has me intrigued.

I didn't know the game is already due this week. Total surprise-a-ton. I think I'll check it out when I'm done with TWEWY (which should coincide with the release later week). :)

I can't wait to see what they do in the later levels, especially with the type of level where you have to pull some blocks out without making the others fall.

I want it to be haaaaard. Or interesting.

You started a sentence with the word "But".

There's nothing wrong with starting a sentence with a conjunction. I know your High School English teacher beat you with a cane once for doing that, but its ok.

Twice, actually.

The second use is a little fragmented.

You can pass the Wiimote to your grandma or a 5-year-old and they'll have a ball with its clever mix of brainy puzzles and satisfying explosions. But hard-core players like me will find a surprising amount of depth to the gameplay and a satisfying, addictive challenge.

A comma or semicolon would make it less disjointed and show the link between the two clauses.

Nick, I'm not that far into the game, but I I'm struggling to play any more of the adventure mode because the shooting galleries are SO TERRIBLY BORING.

Am I missing out?

yeah, get past them. as i said, they're the low point, but they're not totally insufferable, are they? should be easily enough to beat and move on.

Not insufferable, just dampened by enjoyment considerably. After an amazing high from collapsing structures by hitting week foundation points ("This is the most important thing for children to play since LEGO!" I said), to got to hitting raccoons in the face with a bomb, I was a little defeated.

But I shall continue!

I've been waiting to say something like this for a year and a half: If this is the future of casual gaming, motion controls, and Wii, count me in. Boom Blox may not be the best Wii game, depending on your proclivities, but it's definitely the best use of the Wii yet. It's immensely accessible, wonderfully tactile, and stands as one of the best treatments of gaming in a 3D space.
