Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
I think the ultimate avatar would be one that seamless combines Madworld with NMH2s. Travis and Jack, I don't know if the forum can take it.

Eww, why sully the image of Jack with some horseshit from no more heroes, the gaming equivalent to pig vomit?

Didnt see anyone post the IGN updates. Heres a song

Crimson Rain

Controls

madworld-20090224060259970-000.jpg

Lock-on: For an easy lock-on, you'll want to hold the C button until a small yellow box pops up, indicating the game's Z-targeting is initiated. From there, C becomes a dud button until you hold it again, releasing the lock and bringing the free-cam back into play.

Weapons: All weapons are picked up using up on the d-pad, and that includes health power-ups as well. There's no animation freeze for these pick-ups, so feel free to toss a guy across the screen, tap up over and over as you run toward a health pill, and grab it on the run instead of stopping to see the prompt pop up. We've also found ourselves getting caught up in the heat of battle, forgetting to swap out our weapons for the classic chainsaw instead. Be sure to remember the left/right d-pad control though, as some quick-time events won't start unless you've got your chainsaw out to initiate the first block or attack.

Chainsaw Fuel: Swinging motions are pretty self-explanatory, with a backfist and uppercut, and two types of chainsaw swings if B is being held down. As a quick note on the chainsaw though, it's got limited juice with a five second recharge (that can be broken at any time to use what energy has been regained in the first few seconds), so you can't run around with the killing machine always-active and expect it to be ready at the tip of a hat.

Attack Modifiers: When attacking with A, be sure to mind the analog stick as you fight. Holding a direction will throw a heavier straight fist and end your combo, but when used in conjunction with regular A tapping it can be a perfect ending to a devastating combo, sending enemies into rose bushes, trash cans, or grounded spikes.

The "Off the Wall": "Off the wall" attacks are also possible, so be sure to make use of the A-hold grabs and throwing. Simply hold A to grab someone (flicking the nunchuk to head-butt them if they start to wiggle free), flick the Wii remote forward to throw them, and then run over as they hit the wall. From here, quick jabs with the A button will keep their body suspended even if they've already taken enough hits to be out for the count, and you can bash the ever-loving-hell out of them as you please, finishing things off with a chainsaw attack or actual A or B finisher. For added awesomeness, throw your first enemy into a second one and trap two baddies against the wall together. If you pull it off right, you'll be able to trap them both against the wall and keep your combo going. Easy points.

Sprint and Dodge: Before we go, a couple notes on mobility should be thrown out. First off, double-taps forward with the analog stick will push Jack into a full-on sprint, which is great for evading, making tougher jumps, or chasing down tossed enemies before they do in fact fall to the ground. As far as the nunchuk dodge goes, don't underestimate its importance. You've got no block button out there, but are invulnerable to any attack in the game when in the back flip animation.

Any ideas?

Inspired mode - Use World 6-3 from SMB1 as your background & put a blood splattered signpost in the middle where Mario currently is.

Easy mode - Signpost through Mario or replacing him.

Thanks ! Interesting quote from the game designer : "When I was making the enemies, one of the things that I was thinking about was that basically, this isn't actually a battle game. Instead of thinking how I am going to defeat this guy, you think about what you are going to do to kill him. That's the core of the experience"
Which is pretty much what I've been preaching since the concerns about the assumed lack of challenge of battling enemies appeared.
Of course, time will tell if PG managed to get the overall challenge and variety just right, but I'm absolutely willing to trust them on this design choice.

Awesome work on the OP!

I would have preferred a different title though, the black and white and red all over feels played out to me. But I'll deal.

But when I click the thread I will only see:

The Official MADWORLD Thread of LET'S GO LET'S GO LET'S GO LET'S

I like the thread title, but maybe something like "The Official MADWORLD Thread of not raising a society full of pussies"

Watching on youtube the opening, the story seems much serious and dramatic contrarily of gameplay funny and intentionally exaggerated......The collaboration of Matsuno is obvious and will surprise many gamers.

This thread has one of the best Official Thread OPs I've ever seen. Creative, interesting, funny, informative and it didn't take 100 posts. Great stuff.

Can't wait for Mad World, It looks fantastic and funny as well. Matsuno!

Yeah, definitely. The story already seems a lot deeper than I had thought.

If someone has some graphic skills, I would love a signpost going through my panda avatar's head. But I lack the talent to do it myself. Anyone up for it?

Bonus points if the icon on the sign is a panda with a sign in his head.

+2 sales of this game from me. One for me, one for my brother.

And I'd have to agree when it's said Issac Washington would win in a swearing contest. "You got a fucking problem? This is the way I mutherfuckin' speak. Mutherfuck!"

has there been any word on the structure of the game? is it a linear beat 'em up progression through the levels, or a set of challenges to be completed to line up with the game show conceit, or something else altogether?

i'm curious, i suppose, because reading the previews from ign i can't get a sense for what the game is going to be like exactly. i wasn't wild about no more heroes, loved god hand, and though i think this LOOKS great, i feel some reserve about plunking down the fifty bones for it based on my aforementioned n.m.h. burning.

anyone who's played it want to give some short idea of how the motion controls feel compared to n.m.h. (more precise?) and if the levels and enemies are interesting, keeping you plowing through without feeling repetitive?

Welcome to the club.

Happy to be here. Amazing OP.

I still really wish this was coming to Japan. I was showing the youtube vids to some of my Japanese friends and they said, "Wow this game looks fantastic. Western Studios really make impressive games." And then I told them it was being made by a Japanese studio. The response was along the lines of "Then why the hell aren't we getting it here?"

I wonder how many copies would have to sell before SEGA would risk publishing a CERO Z title for the Wii...

There are levels, and you progress through them in a linear fashion, like your standard beat-'m-up. As far as I know, there's no world map to select levels from. Each level itself is more or less "open". You can consider them more like large arenas. Sometimes they're more linear, like the Highway stage, sometimes there's an objective, like saving the kidnapped girl in one of the Asiatown levels, but mostly, it's about racking up points until you have enough to fight a Ranker (the boss of the stage).

thanks dascu. i guess maybe i should try and find some footage of someone playing through a level or something to get a better idea.

my impression of gameplay flow is that levels are more-or-less "open" from the start. finishing the level is done by killing the boss, but the boss doesn't exist at the "end" of the level per-se - the boss is enticed to enter the area based on your score, so you need to grind through grunts until you achieve the appropriate amount of "score" to lure them out. this takes less time if you're being appropriately "creative" in your dispatch of the non-boss-dudes.

Gametrailers recently posted some footage of the train level. You could also check some of the NY Comic-Con footage on Youtube. That was one of the first levels. Though most Youtube vids only show parts, if you put it all together, you can see that they start off the level with a screen saying "Jack vs Jude the Dude", the latter being the boss of the stage. Then there's lots of gameplay of Jack killing grunts to earn points. You see that he unlocks a baseball bat, a Bloodbath Challenge (Death Press) and a stronger enemy Big Bully Crocker.

Good to know it's mostly score based, I'm way more hyped now.
It reminds me of DeBlob (more stuff unlocks as you colour more/get more points) or even Excite Truck (it's about how you race, not about finishing first).

Does anyone know how to make good blood effects? I don't want it to look like I wanna kill the guy, but I want dark red blood on Obama's left cheek (his left).
